Yesterday as I was leaving the library there was a guy knelt down on the ground tying a girl's shoe for her. Someone walked by and said "hah you must be deep in the friendzone" and the guy replied "dude she's my wife". Then the other guy awkwardly tried to save himself by turning it into a joke: "yea, you're in the friendzone cause you're...uh...friends for life!" I'm starting to think the concept of the "friendzone" can be a little chauvinistic.

Could have been me. When I was 15. I got excellent female friends that are very dear to me, and very much just friends. Good thing about that is that they also got friends. Strategy is key. (I mostly fail by the way, truth before anything)

I'm starting to think the concept of the "friendzone" can be a little chauvinistic.

Just now?

The way it's used invariably denotes females as objects that will extend or withhold sex depending on how they are dealt with.

This is of course a perfectly reasonable characterization, but it's not something specific to females.

Any construction that treats men as true agents and females as behavioral outputs would of course be chauvinistic...

Good points. The reason I didn't see it before is because I thought it had more to do with how attractive the man behaved and I didn't notice the "women as objects" aspect of the concept. It has always bothered me that being just friends with women is looked down upon by some people.

So quitting soda might be the reason why I'm more fit than my teenage years. I have no problem in running full time for a soccer match. When I was a teenager for my varsity team, I used to think, "when will this game end," within the 15th minute of running.

What does Soda have to do with breathing? I've never heard these connections before.

Quitting soda generally helps with losing weight, that was what I was getting at.

There's nothing wrong with men being friends with women.. where it becomes sad is when men want to be more than friends with women but don't assert themselves. That's the friendzone, and its really all on the dude. Most women my age that I know are totally oblivious to the motivations of the men around them.

I didn't really meant to but they are still women atraction is always there, so it can go wrong in a drunk mood. People should be more relaxed about these things, it means nothing.

I am not a drinker, used to be but mended my ways. Well, last night it was put in my mind to get drunk and watch some old sitcoms. Mary Tyler Moore to be exact. I bought some peach whiskey and proceeded to drink the entire bottle over the course of several hours. When I awoke, I got some chinese take out and then listened to music. I slept this morning for I had got little over the course of the before mentioned. Just now, I was drinking some iced tea I brewed and suddenly became nautious. I promptly threw up. I think I will avoid booze and take out for some time now. Mary Tyler Moore will have to be a visit I make sober.

I have been very pissed off recently that there is literally no modern biography of my personal hero Josiah Willard Gibbs, because he basically created modern thermodynamics and I feel like that deserves at least one biography from a reputable historian. Why I have such strong feelings about this I do not understand. Also I got a new LED lightbulb which I love already to death. My feelings pick and choose the weirdest things to be generated by.

The quality of youtube comments does not seem to have increased a lot with the mandatory Google+ login.
Possibility of a rising number of fake Google+ accounts I guess, so much for social networking with Google, where half your "friends" do not exist.

Wait, wasn't the idea to remove the anonymity from Youtube comments, so that there would be an omnipresent risk of your friends and family seeing the bad stuff you post?

Is the problem then that not too enough people are closely linked through Google+ for it to work?

I guess this will just totally stall Google+ adoption, and maybe even drive existing users to abandon their networks in favor of other social-networking services?

Did I get this right? To be honest, as long as Google never makes Youtube a paid service, I don't care too much...

I have two Google+ accounts, I don't see what would stop anyone from making even more. I made the second one purely because I wanted a second gmail address (my main address may not come across well in job applications), but with their whole account integration stuff I got the entire account for everything.

I don't know about adaption, some people may use their accounts more, othewr accounts may be solely for youtube comments and so on.
The latter just seems like needless clutter to me.

That's the friendzone, and its really all on the dude. Most women my age that I know are totally oblivious to the motivations of the men around them.

That's not to say it doesn't work the other way too, but we are still generally a culture where men are expected to assert their intentions first. Is that a good thing? Not really. I know more introverted dudes than introverted women. Give it another generation or two.

"It is all about confidence" - Attractive Guy

There are many layers to the so-called Friend-zone, and assertiveness is generally not the issue. There are several issues, some being with the 'guy' themselves and the others being with the 'girl', can even be a mixture. Though I admit, a harsh but amusingly accurate definition of friend-zone is: " "A term used by a male who complains of being forever alone, blames females for their problems, feels entitled to sex with said women" but the correct definition is "A relationship between friends where one has feelings of unrequited love".

Friendzone itself it not a bad thing! It is only a bad if YOU make it one.

Here is a video some one did about it:

http://youtu.be/UfeTJZXi-J8

These are the most common issues involving the negative-typing of Friendzone:

"Nice guy" (/Creep) syndrome:
There is a difference between a 'nice guy' and some one who is naturally kind. A kind person (http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/marcia-sirota/too-nice_b_946956.html) acts selfishly for no reasons at all, it comes natural to them. A 'nice guy' is mostly a front, an appearance where they behave a certain way in order to achieve a goal. A parody of this would be 'I opened the door for you, will you now sleep with me?'. Generally, they 'pretend' to be friends, they plot and try to 'comfort' females in order to get into their pants. The girl might even have a boyfriend at the moment, she might complain like all people do when they do something silly, bringing about the image that the person is a 'jerk boyfriend' and they hope and pray that they break up, so they can pounce on the vulnerable female, so they can get in their panties whilst 'comforting' them. 'Nice guys' are generally just selfish jerks who use appearances to try to get what they want.

Here is a segment of a different clip featuring 'Nice Guys' (http://youtu.be/FB14E5Ks0Dc?t=3m36s)

"Attention Seeker" syndrome:
This is where a person acts not a like a friend in order to retain the affections of someone of a more than friend way. This is also known as "leading someone on", sort of "I don't want to date them, but I like their romantic attentions, and I want them to continue". This person is just a not a friendly person and you simply have to realise if you are caught in the trap, just to leave it. They don't treat and respect you as a friend.

"An engineer and a post-modernist are taking a fluid dynamics test and the professor tells them that they may use either metric or imperial units as long as they are consistent throughout the whole test. The post modernist claims it does not matter since they are both arbitrary. The engineer claims that this may be true, but he would be damned if he saw anyone choose the latter over the former."

The principle of teleological diffusion seems to lead many into conceptual difficulty when they attempt to grasp the notion that human verbal behavior is simply the mutual regulation (i.e. manipulation and maintenance) of interlocking operant contingencies.

In other words, the typical retort is in fact a first-order perspective disguised as a meta-perspective disguised as a first-order perspective. And so, confusion leads these to reject out-of-hand some irrelevancies made up to approximate the original thought, when in fact their very act of doing so corresponds precisely to the notion's predictive framework.

This is one thing I never understood about 'human relationships'.

So Friend X wants to hang out with me, but Friend Y and Z usually know X comes around, and wants to do like a big get together. Friend X doesn't want Friend Y and Z to come along, but however, doesn't want to tell Y and Z because that would make Friend X look like a 'scumbag'. So Friend X doesn't want to hang out because Friend Y and Z would find out, and ask, therefore, I should lie to Friend Y and Z saying I don't want them to come around at all, and just Friend X. Therefore, so I look like the 'scumbag' and not Friend X. Also, me saying "Friend X isn't interested in doing a big get together" causes objections due to the way I am saying it but Friend X would not say themselves.

My view is simple, for Friend X just to say they don't want Friend Y and Z to come around, therefore, they don't come around and no issue. I don't see why Friend X finds being honest so hard.

Does the padding not increase the time over which the impact takes place, thus dampening the change in acceleration which causes damage?
It mostly allows you to hit much harder without hurting your hands and without superficial damages stopping a fight. Chances on ending a fight by knocking someone out and causing internal damages hence increases.

On a serious note (hopefully not too serious), not to offend you, but it sounds like your area is full of a lot of irresponsible d*!($e b@&$. I read about it and saw the pictures where all the people in front abandoned their vehicles and created huge traffic jams. What if first responders had to get through to save people's lives? What if someone in one of those cars was old and could not walk away, and was low on gas? Would they just leave them to die in the cold? That is pathetically irresponsible. None of that, I think I heard some weird sounds but I am not sure of that. But it feels like there is something there, what I don't know, but the second floor of that building is scary. It's like someone is deflating your lungs when you enter, it's extremily ominous. There are some chairs and a table, nobody uses them, nobody wants to be there. The oldest clockwork in Europe is there on the third floor by the way, you can probably see it if you ask. Pretty sure you will agree with me on floor two once you enter it.

Huh, yea I'm just white. My grandpa has brown skin, black hair, and a broad round face. Some of my family members are so dark sometimes they get mistaken for being something other than Caucasian, so I think there's a possibility I have a fairly recent American Indian ancestor.

It's weird though because my genealogy goes back pretty far and there are no American Indians on it, my family is predominately English. Supposedly my great x4 grandmother was half Cherokee but the "distant Cherokee ancestor" is a pretty common family legend in the US and its usually not true. Even if she really was Cherokee I'm not sure if her traits would last that many generations.

And just in case anyone thought I was being serious, the post Tiaexz quoted was a joke :sweatdrop:

I am going to flip out on my roommate tomorrow since he seems to be happy being absolutely oblivious to everything he does.

Leaves banana peel in room for 4 days and lets flies and **** fester in the room while I am away.
Has not paid rent yet (was due a few hours ago), and he was late and gave our apartment penalties TWICE already.
Uses other peoples dishes and cups, leaves them in his room with half eaten food and crumbs left on them, then has the gall to say that because he likes to disappear until midnight every night that he should not have to pitch in with the chores.
Plays LoL until 2am in the morning, spamming his mouse button when I am trying to sleep right ******* now.
Half assed jobs on the things he does do, like clean the bathroom we share. Although how can you even try to pass off that you got rid of the soap scum build up in the tub when it is still very visible right in front of my eyes.

I swear I am going to yell. And I haven't yelled at someone in person in over....3-4 years. The worst part is that not only did the other apt. mate tell him when he got back that rent was due tonight, but his job on sunday with cleaning the bathroom involved washing the floor mats. He takes them out of the room and puts them in a pile in the hallway and there they have remained, since the 27th. He walks by it every. single. day.

Why is it that manual labour can be so much more rewarding than sitting a desk.

Replaced a few broken tiles at the house lately. The work was delicate and more difficult than I thought, since you need to be careful not to break more tiles when removing the ones that needs to be replaced, but it's so rewarding once the work is done. You immediately see the result and you know that you'll enjoy it for more many years to come.

Concerning dreams, what else is interesting is when a familiarity in a dream can not be remembered in sleep or while awake. It is merely familiar for it's own sake I assume.

Can the subconcious produce a sensation of familiarity for it's own sake and/or for the plot of the dream or is it something that our mind is truly familiar with.

If fact was it in dream or in life? If falsehood, is it manufactured or borrowed from an event or dream that it closely remembered or shares no similarity with.

One may ask: De ja vu? The immortality of my soul? (If one has one of course).

Wouldn't it be wild if the familiarity in dreams was the result of something existing along another stream of time or a prediction or rememberance of said alternate time stream?

A multiverse would be interesting. Multiple streams of time and/or dimensions and/or occupants that could be similar or disimilar to ourselves. The universe would need boundries. I find it hard to beleive that the universe is infinate. I just can't comprehend nothing but empty distance. It may be vast, but I would assume that there is a perhaps a flat part of the universe that you could techically fall off it technology had the capacities to take you there.

Time could be a vast all encompasing mass that we occupy or it could be perhaps thread like that occupies multiple universes or even encompasing all the multiverse together. Then, you get into more boundries at even more vast distances that are incomprehensible.

Also, is there a function to time other than keeping track of those who are aware of it or does it do more? We age, but that could just be biological breakdown that happens over time. Or is it some celesitial free radical of sorts that ages things. Time is measured most commonly with merely seeing how things change over time. We are confined on a restrictive orb that posseses dangers and free radicals all of it's own. Times role in this? I don't really know. I do think however, that time is infinate. I know I said that I couldn't comprehend distances as infinate, but time would seem such. I beleive that time can continue in absense of any one or any think being able to track its progress or perhaps some mass like movements.

I am not good at diagnosing dreams. I can't even interpret literature with any degree of effectivness. The brain during sleeps is very apt at formulating locations, people, plots with endless variety. I have been told dreams are similar to hallucinating like a schizophrenic or such would hallucinate while awake. I always seem to take a third person view of my dreams. I act and such, but that character that is me performs all the actions and I am just a passive observer. Although, if the dream is to illicit moods, I feel them. I forget most of my dreams. Something I encounter or see might bring back a piece of the dream, but that is about it.

I am starting to ramble though. I am no physics or math guru, but I do find this topic interesting.
