Been getting involved in local party politics, and I am helping take my county branch from useless to a true force in the community that will truly be tested this coming election. We have not went (my political party) in my life time in a Presidential election, but I think that due to my involvement we may this time. We will see.
It is always good to see people committed to making a positive difference in the lives of their community members. Good luck with that.
First comfirmed sighting of a wild wolf in the Netherlands, awesome. They have been seen before but they don't like to be seen, they are basicly invisible.
What is with this 'box' crap, what is wrong shaking someone's hand. Maybe it's a local issue I don't know. But I prefer shaking hands personally.

Why do call a fly a fly when it's on the ground? Surely we should call it a walk!

Don't think I can really say in the Frontroom. Suffice it to say one that I hugely disagree with and have never identified with. I have come to the conclusion though that it is the best hope for the country, and instead of trying to work outside of it, people of my persuasion need to get inside it and take it over and take it back to its roots.
Spring is finally here, that makes me happy. Old man winter threw everything he had at us this winter and he is finally in his death throws. What a glorious spring it will be.
Trying to comfort a friend who's dad is about to die, not easy. A good fill of wodka and warning him that watching someone die is a really ugly thing seemed like the best idea. Better to be honest about it

this is not our experience, and experience has been the test of reality.
There is a difference between empiricism and phenomenologism.
What our "experience" shows is that our experience is worthless without cognitive prostheses such as instrumental science.
In fact, what empirical science has precisely been showing us over the past millennia is that our first-order ontological intuitions - based on 'what we feel like' - are invariably and thoroughly mistaken.
Expensive restaurants are fine of course, but there still nothing as satisfying as a portion of fried fish and a salted herring with onions.

Two of the most deeply-misunderstood logical fallacies are the "Ad Hominem" and the "No True Scotsman".
1. Ad Hominem
Calling someone a name does not automatically have any bearing whatsoever on one's arguments. Unless one explicitly predicates those arguments on some individual possessing some (presumably bad) trait(s), in which case the user is open to attack just in case it can be shown that the ad hominem is actually false or invalid.
You are a killer, therefore the political views you hold must be wrong.
Fallacy?
You are a killer, therefore you must hold wrong political views.
Fallacy?
You are a killer, therefore you love Hitler
Fallacy?
It is perfectly possible, though likely false, that membership in the set of killers should in itself entail membership in the set of Hitler-lovers. Thus the statement is not fallacious by the Ad Hominem.
Bonus: The same standards of relevance and possibility apply to the "Tu Quoque" fallacy, another oft-misunderstood fallacy.
2. No True Scotsman
This fallacy is one of equivocal or circular post-hoc reasoning. It does not comprehensively invalidate statements of the form "No 'legitimate' X..." or "An entity A can not be of Set X if it is a member of Set Y".
A: Is he a Scotsman? No Scotsman can jump.
B: He is a Scotsman based on multiple independent criteria, yet he can jump.
A: In that case those independent criteria must be wrong or irrelevant, as no true Scotsman can jump.
Fallacy?
A: Is he a Scotsman? No Scotsman can jump.
B: Yes, and he can jump.
A: In that case, he can't be a true Scotsman, as no true Scotsman can jump.
Fallacy?
In this case, the burden is on B to elucidate other factors that determine or preclude membership in the set of Scotsmen. Otherwise, all we have is B's unsupported affirmation of some entity's membership in both the set of Scotsmen and the set of people who can jump.
To make it even clearer, here's a fallacious argument obviously based on equivocation:
A: Is he a Scotsman? No Scotsman can jump.
B: Yes, and he can jump.
A: But he just beat that black guy in basketball, so clearly he can jump, and therefore is not a true Scotsman.
Ultimately, it would probably be best if in almost-all cases people just stopped referencing fallacies in their discussions at all.
Awesome, just heard that my mate's daughther is going to the thai-boxing world championship. Next year she will have a much harder time because of her age, but this she could just haul in.

I think one of my cats has a cavity. Off to the vet with she today. Hooray! Well, not really, but what must get done shall.
Ultimately, it would probably be best if in almost-all cases people just stopped referencing fallacies in their discussions at all.
I don't remember coming across any of those fallacies in the Germosphere/Germanosphere. It might be because I'm not discussing philosophy and politics as much in German, but I think I mostly saw these here on the .org, which is part of the Anglosphere.
Therefore this despicable behavior must be yet another trait of the imperialistic Anglo-man.
Seems that the 2013 Modding Awards are up in Total War Center (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?1839-Napoleon-Total-War). Nice to see abit less categories than the competition of 2012, as some of them were so obscure that the victor was dependent on his connections.
Anyway, can't say I have played many of the mods listed, except for the DarthMod, which has provided me with a breath-taking experience, considering the awfully broken AI of Napoleon and Empire, so the guy has definiteley my vote.
Actually, the greatest problem of those games was that the retarded AI had migrated to other, mediocre mods, like TGW, making them rather annoying to play, unfortunately, despite their over-ambitious planning.
I brought my cat in to the vet. Apparently she has gingivitis. I tried to tell her to brush and floss regularly but she apparently didn't. Anyway, the vet did some blood work and she told me my cat might have feline AIDS which can cause gingivitis. She was fixed when I adopted her several years ago so I don't know where she could have picked that disease up if indeed she does posess it. I am going to have her teeth pulled to cure the gingivitis but I don't know what else is required for her good health. Quite the ordeal.

Poor kitty.
Poor kitty indeed. She is hungry and I am at a loss as to what to feed her. I have tried several different things in hopes that she will eat it and suffer little pain, but nothing works. The vet hospital is taking too long to give me a quote for surgery. Then I can make the appointment. What she eats after that I don't know.
Have you tried cat-milk? They can survive on that alone it's really nutricious.
No I haven't. As of late however, I think her hunger is getting to her. I unfortunately ran out of cat food, but have been feeding her some tuna I had in the cabinet. She seems to enjoy that and I mash it up such that it doesn't cause her too much pain and she is eating. Now all I have to do is wait for the vet to call me back and it's surgery time. I just am preparing myself to cringe at the price. But no matter what it is, I will have it done. To have her put to sleep over this would be way out of the question in my opinion.
Thanks for the advice Fragony. :)

Wasn't .org the most popular fan-forum about TW? What happened and it was surpassed by twcenter?
Yup, in the Rome 1 and Medieval 2 days we were neck and neck with the TWC with activity. But then ETW came out and the modders just did not come to us, Im not really sure why, but they stayed at the TWC and no mods really came here. So thus started our long decline. We werent getting new members, and as members moved on in their lives, our population declined. To be fair, at first we were not so hospitable to new members, forcing them to post a certain number of times in the entry forum before they could join the rest of the forum. This drove away a lot of new members unfortunately.
EDIT: I would say the biggest blow from Rome 2 was that it was being trumped as our big return on these boards, and we were really hoping to bring back old players who got interested again in the games, but they were quickly driven away due to how bad the release was.

I have been jogging through the woods again. The forest has a very ethereal feel to it. That plus the exercise makes for a great span of time.
I jogged today. And much to my surprise I came across three fair young ladies who were jogging in the opposite direction who were quite pleasant and friendly. It capped the run perfectly, well, I was walking at the time because my stamina had given out much earlier along the trail. I was quite surprised to meet such pleasantries, it isn't always the case for me. (Being such the nice person I am and all) you my fellow orgahs might be surprised at this post.

Reading the first post of this thread I remembered that I could never understand, not for my dear life, what that twitter thing is all about. Every time I see a twitter page I feel dyslexic. All I see is a senseless jumble of words, hashtags and photos that form an incomprehensible mess. I can never understand who's saying what on a twitter page. And I find facebook even more nonsensical. I'm not bashing in any way the people who use these services, but they are a complete mystery to me.
Facebook isn't nearly as bad as Twitter. I use Facebook because so many of my friends only communicate that way, but Twitter I cannot bring myself to do.
Don't worry wooly, I don't understand twitter either.

I never really liked sushi either, until I figured out that for me at least, its more of an appetizer or a quick bite to eat than anything substantial.
Also was never a huge fan of soy or eel sauce.

It's extremely feminist, and it's extremely good. Mad Max is really second to Theron's Imperator character, but it works since it allows Max to be the silent killing machine he is. That's about the only viable "complaint" the "meninists" have, since the movie doesn't really treat women as special in any other way (hence, why it's actually amazingly feminist). Most of the female characters are treated as disposable and their deaths are not focused on in the same way that random male hostiles/villains are disposed and forgotten. Some will say that the women are made to be the ones that build civilization while men destroy it, but that's directly countered by dialogue in the movie, so again, it's a nonsensical complaint.
I have a thing for strong women though, so Charlize Theron was really the only thing I wanted to watch. Bald, badass with a robotic arm, that's my **** right there.

Ties and suits? Too formal, in my opinion. We are a much more conservative country than you, guys, but we have stopped wearing ties and suits during weddings since the 80s.
The only chaps that wear ties are the right or far-right politicians and the army officers...

All-black is sometimes difficult to pull off but cargo pants + a simple black t-shirt has the universal significance of "badass" and is practical for all possible purposes, from giving academic lectures to the righteous beatdown of unlawful punks. Did I mention it endows the wearer with an aura of no nonsense badassery?
I haven't understood the purpose of a suit so far. Tried to wear one a couple of times in my life. I looked like a haggard penguin and I suppose that's the only real purpose it serves.

Went to a wedding today, crashed last night at my ex's place. Idk why but today was really difficult. I was quiet for most of the day and I found myself doubting my abilities at finding someone else, at just being attractive in general. Really bad place mentally, I just want to go home and not talk to anyone for a week.
Really happy with my new neighbours who rent the studio above me, my former neighbours were whiners. It's always crowded here at my place and they share my mindset; Have fun, have a drink, play some nice music, enjoy. My former neighbours certainly wouldn't bring me some beers just because, +1

It is not necessarily the marriage and children and such. It is more the notion that you have been left behind in social norms by your contemporaries. As you age, the thought just becomes more consuming.
Like this friend has done this and that and she or he married him or her, and you ask yourself, what have I done? It can depress some. Especially if you have grown up with said people.

As a Mormon I know there's a lot of cultural pressure to marry young and have lots of children but if it's what they really wanted why pity them? Raising kids doesn't have to be a bad thing. It can be, but that doesn't mean it always is.
Kids shouldn't be having kids. Ask anyone over 35, we are all still kids.

We were in our late 20's when daughter was born. It has worked well; great kid, and we're happy. But I shudder to think what it might've been like if she'd been born even just 2-3 years earlier. Everyone is different, but for me, the difference in maturity level between 25 & 28 was pretty significant.
Kids shouldn't be having kids. Ask anyone over 35, we are all still kids.
And yet those same 35 year olds trust us with legal adulthood. I agree that a lot of young adults aren't ready for kids but some are, like Bramborough says everyone is different. People mature at different rates, especially at our age it seems.

WE ARE STILL MEN, so let's exchange cooking tips. I have found sambal to be an excellent addition to my basic pasta-sause. It used to be chopped tomatoes, onions, fresh basilicum, and too much garlic (is there such a thing), but adding a few spoons of sambal makes the basis of the sauce complete. Add Shrimps and some fresh lemon.
edit, forgot mentioning oregano, essential.

I learned yesterday a really simple yet delicious peanut butter pie: one cup of creamy peanut butter, one cup of pasteurized egg yolks, and one cup of marshmallow fluff. Mix and pour into a cooked pie crust. Freeze, then serve. Really simple.

Have to agree with you about Sambal, bit of Chili only enhances a pasta sauce and brings up the flavours and no there is never too much garlic in a tomato pasta sauce.
My tip is to use canned tomatoes rather then fresh for a pasta sauce. While in most things fresh is best. It does not apply always. My favourite brand of canned tomatoes for pasta sauce is Italian Mutti.
Best thing about chicken is that it is almost impossible to ruin. Lots and lots of Finnish forest-herbs, mauled dried mushrooms, and smoked salt make an excellent mix. Beef,Onion,Paprika or is it bell pepper, Garlic, Tomatoes, tomato puree, brown stock and Hungarian semi Sweet red wine. For spices salt and pepper, ton of Paprika powder, cumin seeds, bay leaves and some Chili sauce. Salad and this season potatoes to go with it and voila!

I was on one of my runs(that I do 2 times per week) and I encountered a group of around 6 girls. Not sure if they were just crazy or drunk(there was an event around 200 meters away they were likely going to), but they actually started to compete with me, trying to outrun me and such. Now I can run for 10 km at a time and I was still fresh, I naturally outran them by a lot. They began calling me a creep.

Might be a good idea for a tread, getting a subject from another member and write a poem. Give another subject.
Poems can be really short, one of the most haunting I came across (From Dutch) 'For sale, children's shoes, never worn'. I don't know if it really qualifies as a poem but it sure says a lot with very little words.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/For_sale:_baby_shoes,_never_worn
Always read it was attributed to Hemingway, but apparently that's not the case. I definitely agree with you though. It's a haunting piece.

Good job plants, can't recommend them enough. They must have eaten 40 flies by now, all happily being digested. Nature is so clever, beats all mathematics we can come up with. These plants were short on nutrition so they started developing into being carinivors. It's amazing.
Is good fortune something that should be sought and achieved or rather is is something that you wait for? Waiting is arduous and depressing but seeking it would seem a hopeless attempt. I realize that depends on what you are seeking, but the best things to seek would seem to me anyway, the most desirable. What a shame.

Other researchers have now explored this ‘misclassification hypothesis’ more closely, including a huge UK-based population study published this year.
It showed that when you simply compare alcohol consumption and health outcomes, you find a clear beneficial effect of moderate alcohol consumption. But if you take former drinkers out of the abstainers group, then the benefits don’t look so rosy – in fact, they all but disappear.
Meanwhile, another team of researchers studied people whose bodies cannot process alcohol properly – and therefore who generally don’t drink alcohol at all – and found those with this genetic marker had better cardiovascular health and a lower risk of coronary heart disease than those without it.

Yeah Ive been there. Fact is, there is no raise coming until at least a year. They dont care how successful you are, you could bring in a billion dollars next week and I would doubt they would give you a raise.
that's assuming an oil slump (or in your case, some other slump) doesn't severely depress the market, causing a failure to provide the promised raises (I'm actually two raises behind because of the oil slump).
They do have me marked for the raises, which I am told they hope to get me as soon as I resume a regular work load (likely next summer). Like Vuk, I was never late, did jobs no one else could (or would) touch, was very flexible, and surprisingly creative (for a guy who's self-described as having the creativity of a brick :clown:)
You get the job because you are good at it, don't complain, it won't be apreciated. Just an advice Vukkie, comming from the evil manager's sphere I know what I am talking about.
lol, I am not complaining to them. We are one of the best in the world for what we do, so it goes without saying that majority of our employees are very good. They keep the yearly goal just above what the median sales person brings in to always keep it rising and motivate us to improve. That means that more than half of employees do not make their goals each year and get coaching. The ones who make/exceed it usually do by small margins. There are only 12 other employees out of the few thousands we employ who are getting double or more their yearly sales goal and I am getting three times that goal in a month. Did I mention that I am part time and that all of the other top performers are full time and have way more opportunity to make sales? There is only one person in the company who has consistently been pulling in more additional revenue than myself, and this month I surpassed her (not even close for the year, but for the month).
I was hired because I had a proven track record of being able to sell things and work in a professional environment...so did everyone else. I am doing though, what only one other person in my role in a 7 billion dollar company is able to do. That is pretty impressive. That goes way beyond the reason I was hired. They give out raises based solely on how long you have worked there. There is a woman I sit next to who has been there since this division opened over a decade ago and she never meets her sales goal...yet she is making literally about twice what I am and has full time.
I would be earning my company way more money if they gave me full-time and motivated me with performance based raises. You would think it would be in their best interests.
(It would be better for them than if they did it commission based like they apparently considered years ago, because a %5 commission on what I bring in would cost them a lot more than giving me a $2.50 raise)

Yes but then you are also susceptible to something cracking the screen by hitting your leg. A friend had that once, cracked his screen when he bumped into a banister.
Also lock your your phone with a pin. They can do a lot of damage with a free and open phone ranging from identity theft, harassment, plus makes it easier to sell on. As for Tuuvi, stops you from calling everyone too.
Also, never put the screen-side in facing your leg.
I always do that, never had a problem. I do use a pin though and turn the screen off before I put it into my pocket. I also always use a some kind of rubber cover to protect the back and sides, that may help with not activating the buttons accidentally.

Absolutely. Such questions are very much a cry for help in my experience. Oftentimes a single "yes" is all it takes for the person in question to change their mind on suicide. I have a friend who asked me almost the exact same question. A couple years later he told me that me answering yes helped him change his mind. Today he is doing a lot better but it kinda shows you how fragile the human mind can be.

I'm recalling a Louis de Funes scene in which he and a bunch of soldiers or gendarmes are standing in a circle while Funes berates them. Then, they each take off their hats/helmets to bang on their own skulls, which consistently produces a hollow ringing. Finally, only Funes is left, and he too tries banging on his own head, again with a hollow ringing as a result. The scene was in color.
That's all I remember. Can you Europeans help out identifying the movie in which the scene occurs? Perhaps one of the Fantomas films?

The cratering of the Dutch Skunk's career continues. Hope he's having fun riding the bench in Turkey.

A Bloke calls the company and orders their 5 day – 5 kgs weight loss programme.
The next day, there's a knock on the door and standing before him a voluptuous, athletic, 19 year old babe from J.C. dressed in nothing but a pair of Nike running shoes and a sign around her neck..
The sign reads, 'If you catch me, you can have me.'
Without a second thought, he takes off after her. A few kilometres later huffing and puffing, he finally gives up.
The same girl shows up the next four days and the same thing happens.
On the fifth day, he weighs himself and is delighted to find he has lost 5 kgs as promised.

The next day there's a knock at the door and standing before him is the most stunning, beautiful, sexy woman he has ever seen in his life.
She is wearing nothing but Reebok running shoes and a sign around her neck that reads, 'If you catch me, you can have me'.
Well, he's out the door after her like a shot. This girl is in excellent shape and despite his best efforts, no such luck.
So for the next four days, the same routine happens with him gradually getting in better and better shape.
Much to his delight on the fifth day when he weighs himself, he discovers that he has lost another 10 kgs, as promised.
He decides to go for broke and calls the company to order their 7 day – 25 kgs programme.
'Are you sure?' asks the representative on the phone.. 'This is our most rigorous programme.'
'Absolutely,' he replies, 'I haven't felt this good in years.'
The next day there's a knock at the door and when he opens it he finds a huge muscular guy standing there wearing nothing but pink running shoes and a sign around his neck that reads, 'If I catch you, you're mine.'

It's been months and I still have not found a job. Neither have any of my friends, but I would think I would have heard back from more by now. I can feel the depression slowly creeping in, I go outside to hang with friends for a few hours, maybe once a week. I apply for jobs, I read, I do online courses, I watch Netflix, I hit the gym a lot. Cheap laptop = no video games.
It's all too repetitive and isolating.

BTW, I still get by from tutoring. Actually, tutoring is borderline ludicrous and if I focused on making it a full time job, I could make bank. But it's not what I went to college for.

Radical thought, do what I do, have bare-knuckle fights in your home. It's fun and friendly, you will feel better. I don't have your problems but I would suggest it, we usually do them in the park but the wheather is bad right now. It hurts, but it's fun.
