Radical thought, do what I do, have bare-knuckle fights in your home. It's fun and friendly, you will feel better. I don't have your problems but I would suggest it, we usually do them in the park but the wheather is bad right now. It hurts, but it's fun.

I don't think you are supposed to talk about this...

It what sense? Were talking normal everyday stuff. Not much in the way of formal events. Though this is an argument Im having with a friend. I dont grow such a great beard so I shave it on a regular basis. My friend on the other hand likes to grow his beard, but it comes in very patchy and even in the places its not patchy its not very thick. For some reason he thinks it looks good and we have been arguing over whether or not its better to shave in cases like his. Hence why I came on here to ask.

Here's an article about patchy beards (http://www.gq.com/story/how-to-fix-your-patchy-beard).

As far as keeping a patchy beard, I think it depends upon the person. Some people can pull off a cool looking patchy beard and some can't.

I suppose the social context not in terms of formality, but of familiarity. If you have a long-term job without strict rules on facial grooming or a manager who will hold it against you, then it doesn't make much difference. Everyone is already familiar with you and they probably don't care too much how your beard looks. If you were, say, going to a party attended mostly by strangers to you, then shaving would be the better bet.

Personally, people start calling me "Taliban" after a couple of weeks without shaving.

Just watched Lousey Rousey get turned into a quivered mass of battered flesh that had to be peeled from he canvas. Pain and humiliation are hers and the beltbis Holm's. Good day.
After her last fight where she demolished Correia her ego got waaaay out of hand and that led to her being crushed by Holm.

Strike For The South
11-16-2015, 00:28
Rousey's striking game is awful. Holm absorbed her original bullrush and then it was lights out. Greg Jackson executed the perfect plan. Edmond is an awful coach who lucked out when Rousey walked through his door. She needs to jet him and quick.

Vuk
11-16-2015, 00:31
Her mistake was thinking she could stand up to a serious striker. Bethe was all heart/no skill. Rousey thought she beat some great striker when in reality she had not fought one yet. She got just what she deserved, and hopefully this will derail the Rousey hype/wank train.

Vuk
11-16-2015, 19:28
I wish I was a reporter for Rousey's first post annihilation interview.
"Hey Rousey, what does Holly Holm's foot taste like?"
"Hey Rousey, what did you find so interesting about the canvas that made you dive down to inspect it for so long?"
"Hey Rousey, now that you failed to win a gold at the Olympics and failed to retire MMA undefeated, what do you plan to fail at next? Boxing perhaps?"

Strike For The South
11-16-2015, 21:02
She has just been trained so badly by Edmond. It seemed like they simply thought they would be able to go out there and match Holms striking, which if you have ever seen her attempts at shadow boxing, you knew wasnt going to happen.

Then there is the whole other issue with her taking on the heel personality, which seemingly came out of nowhere.

Most people don't know how to hunt. They just sit in a stand and hope a deer comes to them. That is hoping, not hunting. I move, find a deer/herd, and try to quietly stay ahead of it till a good shot opens. Me and my bros all got our first on the first day. Thanks to work I have only hunted twice, and I got a big, fat doe early in the morning each time. ( and I let some smaller doe and a scrawny buck go)
Now I just have a buck tag to fill and my next day I can hunt is Sunday (the last day of gun deer season.)
My neighbors cannot get crap and keep saying "nothing is moving". The problem is that they are not moving.
People tell me it is stupid to hunt from the ground and that you will have better luck from a stand, but no matter where I hunt, I always bag more quicker than those around me. I hunt with a $100 WWII military surplus bolt action, a $6 call, and a cheap vest, and they spend thousands on trail cams, heated coveralls, expensive rifles, etc.

I think the problem is that average hunters are only in the woods during hunting season.

Just think of it this way. A deer dies one of 3 ways if a hunter does not harvest it:
1. Being struck by a car or caught in machinery. This can be either very slow and painful or very quick. It is all chance.
2. Disease/starvation. This is a horrible way to die and is slow and painful. Because we have driven out most natural predators, this way to die would happen a lot more if hunters did not help keep the herds at healthy levels as natural predators.
3. Predators. This way just sucks. Non-human predators kill slow. The human being is the only predator on earth who will take into account the feelings of its prey when it kills it. Most humans will not take a shot unless they can kill the animal quickly and with minimal pain. Non-human predators will chew on its innards while it is alive for minutes bleeding out.

The way I see it is that the most humane way a deer can die is by my shotgun. I am not killing a deer as much as I am saving a deer from a much worse death.

Theoretically, even one gene-drive–engineered organism could crash an entire population.

That possibility terrified some people when they learned about the yellow fruit fly experiment. If a gene-drive–containing organism were to escape from the lab and start breeding with its wild counterparts, it could irrevocably alter the wild population. Maybe even wipe it out.

I scored 24%. I wasn't a big fan of that quiz, for most of the questions I could have picked two answers but the quiz only lets you choose one, so it creates a false dichotomy. For example, I believe the universe is a natural place that is best understood by science and I believe it was created by God as part of a plan. As far as I can tell these two statements are not contradictory, because my religion does not explain how the universe/nature works it only tells me that God created it.

As an exercise, I was to trace the route of Internet packages from my computer to an arbitrary US server. I tried whitehouse.gov, nasa.gov, wikipedia.org, and none of these packages left Europe. My packages to foxnews.com did apparently not even leave the country (response time of 7 ms).

But, as expected, Kennebec Valley Community College (http://www.kvcc.me.edu/) delivered and brought my packets all across the Atlantic. Thank you, Kennebec. Wherever that is.

This makes me feel good. A jewish old couple was extremily violently attacked and robbed by obvious anti-semites, I'll leave the background of the assholes to your imagination. The women is in a wheelchair, husband is permanently blind. 15.000 was stolen. Weblog Geenstijl (much dispised by the msm) started a crowdfund to get it back, only took a few hours to get almost 20.000 and still counting, tommorow they will probably have twice as much as the amount of savings that were stolen.

Good job Geenstijl.

I think the point they were making was that the right-wing might typically "label" people, rather than understand as an extension of someone doing something. The examples being "Fragony is feeling optimistic about this" and "Fragony is an optimist". Unfortunately, my friend list is not known for being particularly right-wing, so I haven't had someone turn up with the alternative result.

Reminds me of a story where someone ran up the stairs with a plate full of spaghetti, in their hurrying opposed to taking their time, fell forward and covered themselves in it.

and I am sat there looking at them, thinking "wtf do I do?", ended up me having a extra smaller portion and lending clothes.

There is nothing wrong with eating food off the floor as long as your floor is clean. I enjoy ramen noodles. I strain them like pasta and season them without the broth. One time, I dropped them on the floor while transferring them to the bowl. I just grabbed them and put them in the bowl and ate them. The floor actually cooled them off such that I could eat them faster. It was a delight.

The floor was not even immaculate, just moderately clean.

Thought it would help my right hand and left shoulder from tremblng, but it are just boxing injuries. Hand and ribs got broken a few times, not very fun if your hand is trembling if you want to pay your groceries. These beta-blockers helped but I got really nasty side-effects, being really dissey, being really tired, being absolutily useless in a match. Not worth it.

Well it was sublime. Very good indeed.

The bloke who played the gay nurse in Corrie* was the narrator and it was hilarious. No, he did the job with aplomb but the heckling got him a couple of times. In one episode he started..." Is this the end..." when a heckler shouted "of your career!" That really made him laugh....and forget his lines .....so he ad libbed and said "Believe me this is as good as it gets! you want to see the shit I've done these last few years" which got a huge laugh and a round of applause.

He then had to exit stage right in order to compose himself.

Best night I've had in ages.

Reading cool book about the Zulu's, tribes had a rather odd way of waging war. First they would line up and exchange songs. If that didn't work a champion was chosen. Now duels happened in Europe as well but for the Zulu tribes losing their champion was defeat and they dropped their spears. Kinda awesome.

If your partner refuses to have sex with you, for Gods sake don't fart and leave the room! :creep:

However, on the night in question, she made it clear that she did not want to have sex with him at that point in time.

This disappointed the man who farted - and left the flat, writes Hallandsposten.

The was allegedly of such a nature that it 'disturbed the woman's piece of mind'.

'It smelled very bad in my flat,' she wrote in her report to police.

Qué?

We're not talking about hovercraft or something much larger than a skateboard now, are we?

Real hovering skateboards, Back to the Future style. Don't ask me how but they can, but they aren't in production yet. Could be a prank but a very well done one. gg on both

Only with magnetic levitation like this one and the one from Hendo that they shortly mention:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvYUq6Ox0Hc

They need a special surface or even rails though to be able to hover due to the entire hovering process depending on magnetism.
It's not quite hovering over everything like in the movies. If you saw something else, it was a prank.

In general I'd think the major advantage of hovering is to remove ground resistance, but as it stands we need far more energy to make something hover than we could save by avoiding ground resistance, which makes the technology seem a bit pointless to me outside of some special needs or entertainment purposes.

In my experience women will typically skip past the family medical history on the first date and go straight to sex.

I came close to running over an old man that was very slowly crossing the street. I turned a corner and there he was. I note that l came close to being distracted as I made the turn. Thank goodness I watched the road. Also I would like to thank the fact that I drive like an old timer anyway.

Still I contemplate what could have happened if I gave into distraction. Scary.

In a series of studies, Professor Stanovich and colleagues had large samples of subjects (usually several hundred) complete judgment tests like the Linda problem, as well as an I.Q. test. The major finding was that irrationality — or what Professor Stanovich called “dysrationalia” — correlates relatively weakly with I.Q. A person with a high I.Q. is about as likely to suffer from dysrationalia as a person with a low I.Q. In a 2008 study, Professor Stanovich and colleagues gave subjects the Linda problem and found that those with a high I.Q. were, if anything, more prone to the conjunction fallacy.

Based on this evidence, Professor Stanovich and colleagues have introduced the concept of the rationality quotient, or R.Q. If an I.Q. test measures something like raw intellectual horsepower (abstract reasoning and verbal ability), a test of R.Q. would measure the propensity for reflective thought — stepping back from your own thinking and correcting its faulty tendencies.

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/18/opinion/sunday/the-difference-between-rationality-and-intelligence.html

I anticipate that RQ and IQ are far from equivalent, but an almost nonexistent correlation would not be expected.

I take issue with the equivocal use of set theory in the Linda problem.

It is given as a problem in which one answer should be treated as a subset of the other, but in fact it would make sense to treat them as intersections, meaning the probabilities are not per se limited.

For example:

A. Viking is a human.
B. Viking is a human and mortal.

Which is likelier?

If you leave aside the interpretation that human entails mortal, then we can go on to say that human need not be a subset of mortal, nor vice-versa.

So for all your notions of rationality you might as well deliver that there is no concrete answer to the Linda problem because probabilities of that sort are incalculable, if not outright invalid in their construction. Funny that Kahneman was behind this.

I don't get your objection. Why shouldn't P(A) ≥ P(A ∧ B) for any choice of A and B?

Montmorency
10-08-2016, 22:33
Because they are independent.

For example: If I have 6 marbles, which is more probable?

A. I have 3 black marbles.
B. I have 3 black marbles and 3 red marbles.

Montmorency
10-08-2016, 22:40
Or:

I have at least one child. Which is likelier?

A. I have a son.
B. I have a son and a daughter.

The P(A) is not a component of P(B) or vice versa, at least not in just logical terms.

For example, in a real distribution perhaps P(A) is .25 while P(B) is .30, because people who have children are likelier to have 2 children than just one. A and B are separate events; B is not a subset of A.

But now you have implicitly changed the definition of A to be "I have only a son". If you have a son and a daughter, you also have a son.

If you mean that A can be interpreted both ways, then I get your objection.

Yes, if against common human experience you were to structure the question such that A implicitly includes B by your private interpretation, then that is not a matter of probabilities any longer but of word games, which trivializes the whole study. That's the sort of thing annoying people do for fun at dinner parties.

Dalston vigilantes are pursuing a campaign of intimidation, violence and gratuitous dismemberment against members of the public they suspect of being behind the ‘creepy clown’ phenomenon.

The smouldering remains of Tommy Tootles, a much loved children’s entertainer, were found all over the place this morning, just yards from where, last Saturday, the actor who plays Mr Tumble was subjected to a savage critique of his performance in the 2015 CBBC pantomime.

Mr Bob Cartwright, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was set upon by a gang of men wielding cricket bats and a frozen leg of lamb as he was passing the Clement Attlee Estate last night.

He told the Mercury: ‘They just came out of nowhere shouting ‘nonce’ and ‘stay away from our kiddies you Grimaldi-esque pervert’. Then they beat the crap out of me and ran away yelling ‘down with the Commedia dell’arte and that’.

‘I wouldn’t care, but I’m not even a clown. I’ve just got big feet.’

We did check, and Mr Cartwright does have really big feet, plus slightly mad hair. But he still insists he is not a clown.

‘I’m not a bloody clown, you tit,’ he said.

Reports of people being beaten up for wearing bow ties are up 30% on the year, as are attacks on people driving really small cars.

Unicycle riders have also been targeted, leaving over 4000 Dalston hipsters with life-threatening injuries, although there are so many excellent reasons to beat up an adult riding a unicycle in a public place that no one is sure whether these assaults are clown-related.

Dalston police have advised anyone with a cold to stay at home because ‘having a red nose during the current coulrophobia-driven orgy of violence could get you a right battering, and no mistake.’

We asked the police if it was acceptable to assault any children’s entertainers at all, but they said ‘No. Only Noel Edmonds. Timmy Mallett at a pinch, but definitely Noel Edmonds.’

I'm not sure though whether the idea that artificial neural networks could one day be as good as biological ones is that crazy.

What sounds like a lack of understanding to me is calling them "neural networks" and "actual neurons", because to my understanding, "actual neurons" only work really well in a "neural network". If that's what you mean then I understand you, but your quote is also a bit off given that the quoted person is not the one making the mistake there. :sweatdrop:

If neurons act as a neural network, then a computer software designed for certain tasks and using select characteristics of some neurons will not behave as a "real" neural network.

Lightbulb technology will never be "as good as" a sun when it comes to generating light, both because that's an inherent technological constraint and because the design of a lightbulb, being made for specific purposes, is very far from the design of a star.
