Re: what kind of people play eb?
I'm a 23 yr old American History/Anthropology Student.
My main historical interest is WW2 (I collect early 20th Century Rifles, 23 so far), but I like ancient history as well. I took Latin in high school because it was half Roman history when all the rest of my siblings took French (I have 10 siblings, no twins, same parents).
I also enjoy as much historical realism in my games as possible, and that's what drew me to EB.

Re: what kind of people play eb?
I am a freaking awesome Swede. I am commonly regarded as utterly cool by everyone who knows me, and by quite a lot of people who don´t.

For me, reading (or playing) history is just a hobby. I studied neurobiology and graduated a couple of months ago. I am now looking for a job.

Re: what kind of people play eb?
16 year old Autrian-Italian-Irish kid with a tiny bit of English and Welsh thrown in living in the South East of England (and some of you thought your details were confusing :laugh4:)
Don't play EB anymore but I've still got the forum bookmarked and visit every couple of days or so just to talk about it, I guess the forum's addictive or something!
Pretty shy guy, although all my friends seem to think that's untrue. I guess I expect too much of myself, so when the result of anything I try is "normal" I get incredibly frustrated and disheartened.
That aside, I work out (powerlifting ftw) listen to music a lot and write crappy mini stories. It passes the time. That, and I'm an avid paintballer with my own marker now (BT Delta w/ ripclip, hoping to get a remote line and NXE pack to take the air off of my gun) and I'm trying to get a part time job to try and afford my extremely expensive hobby
Planning on finishing secondary school, going through sixth form and then joining the MOD for 4 years before going to Uni and getting a "real job." Not sure what I wanna be in the MOD, but I took the pathfinder and it suggested that I should take a class "red" job (which is apparently a fighter's role) but all of the jobs it suggested were mechanical and such, such is the greatness of the MOD pathfinder!
Always cool to read up about you other guys, Appo's one made me laugh, the arrogant git :clown:

Re: what kind of people play eb?
Recently turned 18 (Yay! LEGAL alcohol for me :clown:) half-swede, half-norweigan. Living in Sweden, southernmost parts, where its warm and.. Well, farmlands everywhere. Living near, and currently studying in Lund, big centre of learning in Sweden. Currently studying at a "Gymnasium" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gymnasium_(school) ) reading the Social Sciences program, with focus on Social Sciences - Jurisprudence. After I'm done with that (In about half a year) I'll take a year off, work some, and "live", before starting to study again, with the aim being to become a diplomat. I mean, I've always wanted to simply walk around in Europe opening up trade-agreements and alliances with each and every country I come across, and oh! The ocassional bribe... I'm thinking that Sweden would benefit alot if we bribed over Prince Charles of the UK, but we'll see.
Love playing EB due to my own deep interest in ancient history (Amongst history in general) and beacuse it's simply a wonderful game in its own right (Also an avid gamer). There seem to be this trend that you write that you're not a "nerd" or some such, but I'll just be honest and say that while I'm no nerd, I'm certainly not a faboulosly renowned party-guy, though I'm not a friendless nerd that's never enjoyed the.. Benefits, of a woman. Lol. I guess that's all there is to say :beam:

Not quite: I live in Vantaa, which despite being a city of it's own could be classified as Helsinki's big empty suburb. People here don't do much except loiter aimlessly and get drunk every now and then, so I like Helsinki a lot more.
And since many people here are bragging with their culturally diverse background I might as well tell mine: I'm and an Anglophone Finn with a Turkish father. It might sound simple but it really confuses a lot of people when they get to know me. Since I've spoken English with my father (who is a UK citizen like me) ever since I was born and because I've conducted all my studies in English it's as strong or perhaps even stronger than my Finnish. So when people ask howcome you speak such good English I tell them all that, and by the time I have to explain to them that my father is also Turkish (born and raised in Izmir, lived in England for 15 years or so) the look of sheer incredulity on their faces is priceless. And every single time I tell this the response is the same: "But you don't look Turkish at all!" Yeah, I suppose blue eyes and light brown hair don't look Turkish, but that statement never ceases to irritate the hell out of me. And despite the fact that I think mostly in English and am ethnically half Turkish in terms of cultural identity I'm 100% Finnish.
On a different note, are there any other people who either have or are completeing the IB diploma program? Since this is a really international and fairly well-educated group I'd imagine there to be more than just me.

Re: what kind of people play eb?
I am a 17 years old half Swedish half Finnish individual. I am from the same town as the rock band Europe (hence my name)
I’ve been playing EB since the 1.0 patch and currently aiming to go to law school. In person I talk a lot (I’m one of those guys you think have Hyperactivity :2thumbsup:) but online I often remain quiet. I find that quite odd since most nerds seams to be quiet in person but becomes an animal once they are online.

Re: what kind of people play eb?
Another Swede here, but this example is 20 years old and currently studying economics. I live in Stockholm, a very beautiful city that I love and fanatically devote my life to, but have my blood-ties further up north in insignificant villages no one save the (extremely few and ever decreasing) inhabitants themselves know of.
Ever since I heard of M:TW I've been a sucker for the TW series, and have become more and more interested in history, which naturally drew me towards the more historical mods out there. When R:TW came out and my ears stole some whispers that there was a new mod called Europa Barbarorum being planned, my bloodhound nose never turned away, and I have been playing it pretty much ever since it first came out. Needless to say, it has only made me even more interested in history, to the point that I've taken it upon myself to find books and learn about it on my own when I can. That kind of interest is only matched by my interest in evolutionary psychology, but that's a different matter entirely.
I guess that sums me up well enough.

Re: what kind of people play eb?
I am a 15 year old high school kid born and currently living in the U.S. I am not married and have no kids. I am also despised by many on the forum. I got really interested in ancient history at a early age. I am also obessed with every Roman. I used to not play many computer games because my old computer couldn't handle anything, but since I got a new one almost two years ago I have been playing alot. This also led me to get a copy of Rome total war which I happened to see lying about in a store one day. After a few months of playing it I was looking at a wikipedia article about the game when I saw a link to RTR and EB, so I followed both. after looking at both websites for the mods, I decided EB's website looked prettier so I downloaded it. It was a good decision on my part. I have tried many mods since then, but EB is my favorite.

I'm a infantryman who has a hobby interest in ancient history. Like a few others here my interest dissipates after the dark ages. then we see a resurgence of that interest once we Canadians start bootin the dirty American's out our borders (1812) My true passion is WWII though, as it holds a place in my heart cause of my family's involvement. One gramps was a paratrooper for Canada, the other was a spitfire pilot.
I won't be a reservist for long myself. I'm going regular para soon.

e: remember to say how you got into rome total war and why you chose EB!
I'm just an average fulān (palestinian/ american one) out to have a historical experiance really. I started playing RTW partly out of interest in hellenistic warfare (i had already learned of AS, and wanted to experiance ruling a giant empire), but mainly beacuse of two things:
1-the laptop I write on has enough memory(100GB+), so I figured i'd get a fitting game.
2-It get's off thinking about someone I knew in highschool:shame: (the sig says it all)
I started playing age 17, after I graduated highschool. and I installed the game on June 27, 2007 (8 o'clock), the day I got my laptop. I first had EB in september of 2007 (EB o.81), got 1.0 on october 12(1 o'clock in the afternoon), 1.1 by april 13 (4 in the afternoon), and 1.2 was downloaded just yesterday (two thirty in the afternoon).*
as to why I got EB, that's a very funny story; you see, I had pretty quickly got mad at CA for the arcani, head hurlers, and yes, backwarded gauls. So, looking for a proper historical mod to do all factions justice, I went ahead and saw if the game could be modded. I found out it could, and that there was already an RTR mod out there. after getting the patches and installing it properly, I watched in horror as the game CTD'd while loading itself up:wall:. I later found that there was an unusual bug peculiar to the computer, which rendered any RTW 1.2 useless. So I went searching again for a more user friendly mod**, and found me this one. the rest is history.
and you know what's funny: I hate smilies, yet I find them necessary for some reason:inquisitive:
*I have the unusual ability of remembering key dates, so I know when all was done. yes, all this is out of memory.
**this is not an anti RTR story. that's just what happened.
EDIT: I'm going into paleontology-screw what my parents say..

no offence here, but that part is easily explained :clown: (long story-has to do with Kuwait and its alcohol laws)
either that, or you're just enjoying the freedoms* that Sweden affords. I guess it takes an outsider to appreciate what something has.
*for some reason, I find it more stiffling than Kuwait. Can anyone explain this contradiction?:inquisitive:

Re: what kind of people play eb?
So, I am 18 (had birthday in october), study chemistry at university. I like natural sciences a lot, especially chemistry, physics and maths, most likely will work as physical or theoretical chemist. In addition to this I like history (especially ancient and medieval) as a hobby too, it has roots in my childhood when I read encyclopedies a lot and was interested in everything, which remained.
My favourite PC games are strategies and the first of TW series was MTW. Then I started Rome, but it disapointed me a little. Then I found RTR and later EB (0.8), which is my most favourite game.
And finally I don't consider myself a total nerd. I have many normal hobbies too.
