Its better than "no lynch" my dear, since it is in effect a "roleblock". But you are right, you don't need to like or participate in it.

Imprisonment by vote is useless. The only way we will catch the murderer during the day is by exile.
How is it useless? If someone is imprisoned and a murder occur, we will know for certain that he is not the killer. That's useful. It looks better than a real lynch, because we don't have any information to deal with.
So what are you going to do if there is no death tonight? Assume the imprisoned one is guilty, so you spend two days lynching one person? Assume there's a chance it was a frame and spend several days keeping that person in prison just to be sure? And what if there is a kill? Assume the person locked up is innocent, then get stabbed in the back five days down the line when it turns out they were only the killer's backup partner? What you get out of something like this is information, but it's not very useful information. All it really is is an excuse to do nothing.
Salroka one and all we must not be hasty and I have consolted with the fallen Paragons of our lands and they have told me to
Imprison johnhughthom
Of course... If only we had a suspect in the first place...
And Renata, I said that "Imprison" is better than "No Lynch", not that you should think its the best move ever. :clown:
Imprisoning is the best move ever at this point.
Let's keep our numbers high, while gathering some information, and make sure that a hasty lynch does not turn against us.
Keeping numbers high, whilst leaving high numbers of townies, also removes the chance of killing the real perpetrators. I'm sure if I were to post more in-character it would sound something like:
Nonsense, fool! The Dwarven Kingdom will not stand by whilst our ranks are infiltrated by king-killers. We must act fast, brothers, and take vengeance upon those who seek to wreak havoc upon our lands. There is little time to waste imprisoning! Let the mauls and greatswords rain blows upon our enemies! Let their blood run down the Diamond Quarters and into the Deep Roads!
We don't know what we are facing here, if we exile somebody we risk exiling someone who could be of great help. There seems to be an assumption last nights events were perpetrated by one person, do we really think one dwarf working alone could assassinate a noble like Lady Dordan? We need time to evaluate what is going on here, what we face and how we can tackle it. Randomly exiling or executing people is not the way forward. When we have evidence to do so yes, not on a whim.
Bring it on, weenie boy. :D
The round will conclude in one hour, at 00:00 GMT.
I'm pretty exhausted at the moment, as I just got home from a gig with some friends, so it's likely that the writeup for this phase will come tomorrow morning; you can begin sending orders in for Night One starting now, at any rate.
ooc: Why do I get the ominous feeling that Renata is a joker?
Too late now...
Jokers are stupid; if Secura put one in I'd lose all respect for her. (Kidding. Mostly.)
Anyone want to bring me a beer before I get chucked in jail?

Inside the Throne Room
No sooner had Endrin reclaimed his seat and given the word, the nobility descended into an array of accusations, insults and mock challenges; the King sighed wearily, turning to the small group of Grey Wardens in the corner of the room and gestured to them with a wave of his hand.
One stepped forward from the group, his footfalls soft upon the stone as he moved towards Endrin, his pace consistent and graceful. He was taller than his Warden companions, more physically refined and carried an aura of battle around his very being; it was clear to anyone who looked at the man that he had faced many years of fighting the darkspawn, and this was a sign of great honour to the people of Orzammar.
The man stopped by the king's side, and turned back to his host. The facial differences between the pair could not have been more distinguished as they seemed to silently communicate with one another; the exotic, dark-haired and well-kept face of the Warden bore a pair of hazel-hued eyes that remained focused upon the grey irises of the king, set into a weathered, pale face covered with a thick white beard. They were both old warriors, but age had taken a far greater toll upon the dwarf.
Duncan spoke, his tone being calm and reassuring, yet carrying across the room strongly enough to cause the tumult from the crowd to instantly fall into silence; all eyes fell on him with a mixture of animosity, uncertainty and respect.
"Have you reached a decision?"
The crowd began whispering hurredly, before one bold individual stepped forward, stooped into a bow, and then responded to the Grey Warden's question, kneeling before the throne.
"My l-lord, there has been... much di-discussion, and we've struggled to reach a majority agreement..." Pinman stuttered, struggling to maintain eye contact with either the king or his Warden spokesperson.
King Endrin sighed from his seat and moved to speak; Duncan, perhaps sensing this, spoke first, his voice tinged with encouragement for the kneeling Pinman.
"No agreement whatsoever?"
"W-well... some of us think that Renata should cool off in the cells for the night, my lord", the dwarf continued earnestly, "her behaviour thus far has been somewhat antagonistic!"
Duncan nodded, gesturing for Pinman to return to the crowd; with a further wave of his hand, his Grey Warden companions meandered through the gathering, finding Renata and motioning for her to move towards the Palace's exit. She nodded curtly, and traipsed off for a night on a cold, hard prison bed, her two makeshift jailors following close behind.
After the trio had departed, Duncan spoke again, encouraging the audience to return to their chambers or homes for the night and return to the Palace the next morning for Renata's release from the cells.

Some things I wanna make clear, just so y'all know:
- If you have two active abilities for a phase, you may only use one of the two for that phase.
- If you have a Day Phase ability, you can PM me at any point, from the start of the phase until the write-up appears, to use it.
- Some people have asked about items and such; the merchants will start to appear from Day Two onwards.
Wait, why is a copy of a Game of Thrones in the proving grounds?
There is a Silent Sister in The Calling also. (Second Dragon Age novel)
I have no idea what you're talking about. xD
It's a doorstopper fantasy series by George RR Martin, where no character is too important or too popular to be killed off.
Supposedly "A Game of Thrones" is the basis on which the background and people are based upon (very loosely). I think mostly the noir athmosphere and the killing of major characters have been carried over. If you´re looking for something to read you could do much worse than those books...
It's the physically opposite of Twilight.
End of Night One

On the streets of the Diamond Quarter
There was silence in the Diamond Quarter; it was late and the brightly burning torches of the city had long been extinguished, with only the molten glow of the magma far below the reaches of the city illuminating the streets now. The dust had settled hours previously as the news of Lady Dordan's death had grown subdued around the city itself and instead headed behind closed doors.
The heavy stone doors of the Royal Palace opened a mite, releasing narrow shards of light from within; a short figure slipped out into the night, veiled beneath a charcoal-coloured cloak. The dwarf began to walk slowly down the quiet streets, mail-clad footfalls barely making an audible sound upon the cold ground; a pair of alert eyes flitted from left-to-right from the folds of the hoods as though expecting an unseen assailant to leap from the shadows, but nothing came and the dwarf continued to move.
The dwarf passed the sealed entrance to the Assembly, pausing briefly to embrace the silence that covered the city; the sensation of solitude lasted only a moment as the thudding footfalls of plate-metal permeated the peace, a gutteral battle-cry managing to cut through the air quicker than the swing of his axe could.
With a deft sideways roll and the flash of a silver blade against golden clasps, the blackened cloak fell to the stone to reveal Romanic, clad head-to-toe in sparkling chainmail and wielding both a pair of sharpened daggers and a look of intense determination.
The plate-clad assailant wheeled around with surprising agility and struck again with a heavy-handed vertical strike that Romanic narrowly evaded; the axe slammed down upon the cold stone where he had been stood and a crack emerged along the impact zone, such was the power behind the blow.
But there was no respite there; Romanic had barely managed to catch his breath before his foe recovered, raised the weapon and began swinging it horizontally, vertically, diagonally... strike after strike rained upon Romanic, though his agile frame managed to evade the attacks with ease.
The plate-clad dwarf grunted a sound of clear impatience beneath his helmet, and he instead turned to spinning his axe around his arms quickly, the hilt of the weapon attached to one of his gauntlets by way of a chain; Romanic dipped and weaved around, the spinning of the hatchet getting closer and closer...
*WHACK*
Romanic was thrown backwards a few feet from the force of the blow to his chest, his weapons scattering across the cold stone; his assailant had launched the weapon forward, catching Romanic off-guard before reeling the axe back with the chain. Again, showing surprising speed for one clad in platemail, the dwarf was towering above the fallen Romanic within seconds, preparing to deliver the final blow.
"No!"
The blow that should have ended the pitiful wretch's life instead thudded against a reinforced buckler; cold, unforgiving eyes glared from the narrow visor of the assailant's helm, trying to distinguish the identity of the defender while they both pulled and pushed to gain the upper hand.
With a forceful shove of his buckler, the hatchet still embedded within, the shield-bearing dwarf pushed the attacker back, who responded with a tug of his chain that pulled the defender to the ground; this gave the assailant time to evaluate the situation, which he deemed to be against him now that the number of foes had doubled, and he swiftly darted off into the darkness as quickly as he had appeared.
Romanic climbed to his feet, rubbing his stomach through his chainmail and thanking the ancestors for their untimely intervention; he turned to thank his saviour, but the shield-bearing dwarf had vanished too.
The sensation of solitude returned.

On the streets of the Diamond Quarter
Town criers pour onto the streets as the city guards begin to light the torches, illuminating Orzammar for the day; the criers begin to shout the same message over and over to anyone who walked by.
"News of the hour! Renata falsely imprisoned by voting nobles... epic fail!"

On the streets of the Commons
The merchants of Orzammar had been busy arranging their wares long before the guards had emerged; it took hours to haul equipment from homes to stalls, and then there was the presentation of it all... cuirasses fixed upon training dummies, swords propped up against walls. piles of sparkling gems and boxes lined with various tonics.
Two items particularly stood out for that day:

In the Throne Room of the Royal Palace
Endrin drummed his stubby fingers upon his throne as his guests assembled before him; he offered Renata a weak smile which was met with a curt nod from the recently released prisoner.
"Our Grey Warden guests are not here currently, as they have business to attend to near the Deep Roads", the wizened monarch stated, "so it is up to you to find the truth behind Lady Dordan's death for the time being."
Endrin made a gesture with his hand, and the audience immediately began to argue amongst themselves about the guilty party's identity. The king sighed and resigned himself to listening to their accusations and counter-accusations.

No kills, interesting. Of course the perpetrators of the previous kill may have decided to lay low to place the blame on Renata. I say Imprison: Renata again and see if their patience holds. Of course somebody may have found or saw something last night which could change that view...
Imprison: Johnhughthom
Some-one couldn't resist keeping their hands out of my coin purse, heh? You theif.
I wonder if mafia need a higher attack bonus than their target's armour bonus to make a kill? Without a narrative writeup of "X attacked Y but failed", it's a possibility that this did happen.
*Checking*
EDIT: Nope, there's nothing in the rules. Secura, could you shed some light on this? What are weapons and armour used for in this game?
I believe an attackers strength must be higher than the targets constitution for an attack to succeed. You are correct of course, we may well have had a failed attack, or attacks, during the night. If so my position may well change.
The night phase write-up is complete; take a look, and lemme know what you think of the narrative. :3
There is; I was pretty thorough in both explaining and testing the mechanics for attacking and defending. :3
They have varied effects, which I wouldn't reveal in the rules because it'd just ruin the sensation of getting that cool new item otherwise; this is based upon an RPG, after all.Quote:
Secura, could you shed some light on this? What are weapons and armour used for in this game?
However, I will say that the most basic of weapons and armour essentially boost your Strength or Constitution; some items have other effects on mechanics that you'll come across in due course. :3
That is correct, as it says in the rules.
perhaps the armor/attack just influence the outcome of an assasination, that it may work like a standard rpg game. After all the game is seen as the sequel to Baldurs gate :p
oh Secura jost posted the answer :embarassed:
Beskie lost some dough, Romanic revealed as dual dagger wielding (rogue?) victim of an attack. Was he on his way back from relieving Beskar of some of his wealth?
I realize no one dead and all, but ...

Are you for real?
That was posted before Secura edited in the write up.
All right.
Personally I think we can let Renata out, and see if anything else appears in the next night's writeup. Or alternatively, although I don't think its the better move, we could just kill her now. Imprisoning her again is unlikely to yield the maximal amount of information.
So lets see, whos been quiet. How about we Imprison: Captain Blackadder?
What do you have to say for yourself sir?
Unimprison: Renata Let's see what today's discussion brings.
Double A is innocent.
Edit: Maybe innocent is too strong but he didn't do anything last night.
Edit Edit: Vote: Renata
Check the Day Phase post, it does state that Renata is no longer imprisoned; prisoners are released at the start of the next day phase automatically, no need for 'unimprison' votes.
I'm really starting to worry that I've made the game too complex or that I haven't explained things in enough depth now. :/
If you are going to claim a tracker role you may as well tell us everything, if you are genuine you will be a target and if I was a defender I would want a bit more from you before deciding whether to defend you. Of course you may have protection, that would be two innocent defenders in a 17 person game, unlikely?
It was simply an Unvote, I wasn't 100% sure of the mechanics of unvoting an imprisonment vote.
Unimprison; Vote: Mr. THIS
To make it legal:
Unimprison; Vote: Mr. THIS
Actually, after reading the votes on ArpeggiateTHIS more carefully... it makes more sense to me right now.
Unvote, Vote: ArpeggiateTHIS
Wait, why are you voting for Reenk?
Vote: Chaotix. Very scummy.
Suit yourself. You'll come around to the correct way of thinking eventually. I don't find you suspicious.
Let me get this straight: I'm being voted for guessing at why there were no kills? You guys are awesome! It only takes a bout of what you call "rational thought" to come up with the answer I did, here, take a look at the thought process behind it:
1. *Scratches head* No kills? Weird!
2. Has there ever been a game where mafia didn't make a first night kill? Surely they'd at least try.
3. What would lead no kills? A failed attack, a-la Beefdom?
4. Maybe there was, you know, a failed attack!
5. What would lead to this failed attack? Hey, shiny armour!
6. *Posts in-thread question*
Either way, I don't like this early tracker claim. Why reveal so soon, without any sign of protection? Just begging to be killed. Vote: Reenk Roink
Though I can admit StaccatoTHAT does look pretty scummy, perhaps it was just his first instinct to check for a mistake
I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for now.
Imprision: Chaotix, bandwaggon much? :P
The writeup for the Day Phase is now up, including the items available for auction for this phase.
You should all have received an update on your current monetary situation, so I hope to return from work and see lots of bids. :P
Maybe you should consider that I am town.
So you're admitting that you're not a tracker? Then I was right to guess that you weren't. Nothing scummy about that.
Either way, you should all consider the fact that I am quite wealthy, as I have 10 gold to my name. Compare my riches with yours. Do I look like scum to you?
Wealth = innocence?:inquisitive:
Guess I should go kill myself now. :shame:
Vote: Reenk
Unless you can come up with a complete roleclaim. If it is true, that you can investigate, then I guess we all could raise fonds to help you out
The last game I was in that had money involved was Star Wars at CFC (our esteemed host loved that game), I was the Emperor and we won the game by buying the neutral's votes. I don't think I will look upon your (supposed) wealth as a sign of innocence Mr THIS.
I have to admit that I am puzzled as to why you start giving all this information, like candies on Halloween.
If you can track people (or actually, know that they didn't do anything at night), why would you reveal on day 2 instead of waiting to collect more information? It seems to me that such an early reveal isn't wise unless you have undeniable proof that someone is a killer.
