    The First Session of the Conseil du Royaume opens. King Philippe will not be Seneschal. Duc Alain de Rohan and Duc Raymond de Provence stand for the position.

    The Seneschal's report: The English will not part with Angers for love or money. Modest buildings are begun over the Kingdom as a number of mercenary companies are recruited. King Philippe and the Order close on Bruges while Metz is besieged.

    Duc Hugues storms Metz.

    King Philippe haggles with a merchant.

    The Dauphin's thoughts on his sworn vassals.

    Alain and Constance duel with blade and word.

       1084

    The Seneschal's report: Princess Constance negotiates a marriage alliance with Spain as Prince Louis is married to Teresa el Valiente. A spy enters Bruges. Metz is added to the Kingdom.

    Bertin shares a cup of ale with Odo.

    King Philippe assaults Bruges.

    Prince Louis seizes Zaragosa.


       1086

    The Seneschal's report: German forces continue to violate the borders of the Kingdom. Bruges is taken by King Philippe. The Seneschal besieges Caernarvon.

    King Philippe grants Metz to the Duchy of Lorraine. Bertin de Montsault is named Baron of the province.


       1087

    The Seneschal's report: A large English army approaches the siege at Caernarvon as relations with them worsen. Zaragoza is taken and Valencia is besieged. Enemy spies probe the Kingdom. Construction grinds to a halt as the recruitment of mercenaries and agents has drained the treasury.

    King Philippe strikes the first blow against the trespassing Germans.

    The King, plagued by traitors and trespasssers, declares war against the Germans. The Conseil soon falls into back biting and accusations.

    Christophe Perrone and Gaeten de Rethel exchange harsh words in the Tavern. Gaeten impugns the honor of the Prince and Christophe demands satisfaction.

    The Dauphin hears of the insult and responds in the Conseil.

    Duc Hugues defends his siege from a relief force in the Battle of Staufen.

       1089

    The Seneschal's report: France is now at war with the Holy Roman Empire, the Kingdom braces for this unexpected conflict. Caernarvon is taken. Staufen is seized when a relief army fails to break the French siege. The HRE is close to being excommunicated.

       1090

    The Seneschal's report: The English refuse an exchange of land. Antwerp is taken after a relief force fails to break the siege, but German armies threaten the interior of the Kingdom.

    Duc Hugues guesses that Dijon is a German target. The Conseil discusses how to save the city and the disappearance of Princess Constance.

    King Philippe finishes the German remnants in Flanders.


       1092

    The Seneschal's report: Prince Henri comes of age. Princess Constance seems to be missing in Italy. The Scots refuse an offer of alliance. Dijon is now under German siege.

    Raynaud speaks softly but carries a big stick.


    The Dauphin seizes a wagon and Marseille.


       1093

    The Seneschal's report: The Scots accept a trade agreement but still refuse an alliance while Portugal accepts. Dublin is surrounded by the English, forcing a withdrawal. While Dijon is relieved, Staufen is now besieged by the Germans.

    Prince Louis hunts Germans south of Dijon.

    Raynaud meets Kaiser Heinrich.


    Le Chevalier et la Princesse


       1095

    The Seneschal's report: Frankfurt is taken and Emperor Heinrich slain in a failed sally. Staufen is lost while Metz is besieged by the Germans. The English refuse another trade of land. The Pope threatens excommunication if the Kingdom does not cease hostilities with the Empire.

    The Duc of Lorraine raises a stink in the Conseil over the invasion of his Duchy and Bourgogne.

    Duc Hugues breaks the siege of Metz and clears the area of Germans.

    King Philippe speaks of his displeasure in the Conseil over how the Seneschal has performed his duties.

    A Spear to the Heart

    The King distributes lands from the Royal Demesne. The unratified conquests, Frankfurt and Marseille, will be granted to Lorraine and Aquitaine respectively if approved by the Conseil. Aquitaine is also given Zaragoza. The Order of the Fleur de Lys is granted Antwerp.

    Alain and Raynaud discuss redemption.
