I actually saw an interesting design for a lighthouse with a rotating light on youtube. The rotation was achieved by sticky pistons arranged in a complete circle around a central light source. The pistons opened and closed in a sequence, which gave the lighthouse a rotational effect from a distance. The ingenious part of the construction was that it used a minecart to activate the motion. The minecart was on a closed circular track underneath the light, powered so that it ran infinitely even when empty. The track had detection rails dispersed at regular intervals, and those rails activated the pistons above, so the rotational effect of the light itself matched the path of the minecart going around and around in circles.

That is brilliant. I never thought of using minecarts like that. I wonder what benefits that has over the repeater loop.

I want to be able to power minecarts with a furnace to make trains.

I got a chance to get in ride the trains around for the grand tour... Funcowland was well worth the trip.

Also, it looks like a creeper blew a hole in the spawn house.

Does anyone mind where the control room goes? I'm thinking 3/4 the way up directly opposite the entrance.

    Looking to generate some interest.

I don't particularly mind where it goes, though for convenience of construction it should mainly be on one of the straight sections. Sorry I haven't been on much lately, I just started playing Arkham City. I bought the game about two months ago and figured I should actually get some use out of it since I already paid for it.

No worries. I'm still building a city and am getting the urge to play around with light sensing switches; combining them with my retractable lighting.

It's a BUDS (block update thingie) switch that activates when grass dies at night. I recently rediscovered it and want to try it out. "24 hour" clocks take up too much space using repeaters.

I was on again last night, trying to gather some resources. I tunneled into a massive cave system which then leads into an abandoned mine. I probably spent an hour placing torches and trying to find the ends of it...... not there yet.

I was in a similar situation when you logged on. There was no end to the caves so I finally dug myself out. Luckily I wasn't too far from shore.

Also found a new skeleton spawner. Well, found as in fell on top of.

    Redstone lamps: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/...amps-behavior/

This should improve the scoreboard, which is barely visible from the control room.

These lamps are pretty awesome. Can't wait until they release a proper update.
Also on a different note, is it possible for a world to have more than one Nether and End?

I believe there is only one per game/save.

I've been working on the arena a little more:

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Control switches for the left scoreboard are along the wall 1-4 and 8. Refreshments are in the back; only the finest, of course.

View of the partially completed scoreboard:

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

That's a 4. Easier to see during the day but redstone lamps should take care of that problem.

Now I'm going back to watching grass grow.

1.2 is due out soon. Tonight I may build a defenses around the NPC village adjacent to my desert.

Oh yeah! Forget the pansy Snow Golems (who BTW can now be harmed by rain and water!) Iron Golem's is where it's all at now-a-days!

    Edit:
Somehow all my animals are escaping. Through walls, and double walls. Last I logged in I saw mobs out of their walled pastures. Today, I found two cows and a pig had managed to get outside my outer wall and lava pit!

All mine have stayed put since I stopped using fences.

Village fortified. Under the village I found two spider spawners in a mineshaft and an unidentified spawner in an adjacent cave.

Unfortunately, I have some really bad news. Apparently the level.dat (and its backup) were corrupted on our world. As a result, when I upgraded the server it did not recognize that a world was already in existence and it instead created a new one, overwriting the central spawn area and many chunks around it. This has totally killed the entire spawn area, and most projects from there out to my house, including the arena, trains, highway, pyramid, castle, etc. I was a total idiot and did not do a backup before I upgraded the server. I have also been extremely negligent in creating backups, and the most recent is from January 12th. To give you an idea of how far back that is, and at that time the outer wall of the arena was partially built.

So much work has been lost in the overwrite that I do not think it's worth trying to salvage that world, particularly since it was all replaced with newly generated terrain chunks which do not fit in with the rest of the world, resulting in vertical cliffs and cut-off chunks that look very bad. The options are to role back to January 12th, and lose everything that was done in the last month and a half, or start a new world. Please let me know what you would prefer to do. I'm very sorry about this, I should have been backing the server up more frequently.

I need to go have a look and see what's left, but I am leaning towards salvaging the old world. Unless it really is fubar.

Looks like 1.2 is screwing a lot of people up. I'll be sad to loose what I have but I'm not adverse to starting again. I just want a place where orgers can run and play...and kill creepers.

A shame on the arena. I know how much hard work you put into it.

Will you keep it up for a damage assessment?
