That's a nice summary of the history of France, yes.They had a forced and fractured sense of national unity in 2003, and since then an entire generation has grown up in perpetual violence and lawlessness. The closest thing Iraq as a whole has to a national identity is the cosmopolitan culture of Baghdad, and that (or what's left of it) simply won't do.
