I was just wondering why you (modteam) decided on not having an upkeep for the Bodyguard unts?
And if it was intentionel to let the Spartan bodyguard have an upkeep?

Your Royal family is rich enough to pay for their own personal bodyguards.
There is no Spartan bodyguard. The starting (and only the starting) KH spartan characters do have a normal Spartan unit assigned to them by the campaign script, but this is not really a bodyguard unit.

Because you already pay 200 mnai per family member regardless of the bodyguard cost. In the economy scroll this is categorized under wages, not army upkeep.

Pretty sure whathisname, Xanthippos?, has a bunch of Spartans as his retinue in the same fashion as the starting KH Spartiate FMs.
Anyways, all FMs actually cost a lump sum as "salary" (ca. 200 mnai IIRC) which can probably be assumed to cover the assorted costs of the high living such aristocrats engage in by default and the drain this incurs on the finances of the realm. Their bodyguard units are more like their personal followers attracted by their wealth and influence (covered by the influence trait) and personal efforts and whatnots (modifiers to the "personal security" score from traits, ancillaries etc. also affect the number of men), and are assumed to be covered by their personal finances.
EDIT: Dang, Ludens beat me to it. "If it wasn't for you meddling kids..."

"Let us remember that there are multiple theories of Intelligent Design. I and many others around the world are of the strong belief that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. --- Proof of the existence of the FSM, if needed, can be found in the recent uptick of global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. Apparently His Pastaness is to be worshipped in full pirate regalia. The decline in worldwide pirate population over the past 200 years directly corresponds with the increase in global temperature. Here is a graph to illustrate the point."

Some of the Seleukid generals have Babylonian spearmen bodyguards as well.

Ohh.. had hoped that it was the "spartan" trait that decided what kind of units the "bodyguard was.
So my future generations of spartan FM could kick some persian ass at some point
Is it possible to change the script so that the spartan trait gives you the spartan as bodyguards?
Cheers
Hey dude. A simple "No" would suffice!
Unless you are just in the mood for being rude!
My reason for asking this question was that in the overview menu - where it states the number of family members you have - it includes everybody (Men, women and children).
I became aware only yesterday of the the 200 minarie cost for family members.
So didnt know if this was related to the total number of family members or only the "MALE ADULT MEMBERS"

Only the grown males are officially important, and there is no Spartan faction.

In all reality, they only give you a chance at getting a good commander, which you already have if they managed to live enough to breed.

Oh definitely. Even if that fat, bald Roman I get is S/C/V (Somehow) I will always condemn him to a life managing some backwater like Arpi. Meanwhile, the D/U/L guy with the magnificent helmet will always get Syrakousai, no matter how low the other generals think of him.

I think Somatophylakes Strategou or even Epilektoi Hoplitai are awesome and alot more nice then the spartans to use as body guard. Spartans are way to overrated and are best killed with javelins...![]()
I Mod the spartans so they had 2 Hp..... and much more exspensive... but at least with that, KH (in my opinion) didn't suffer several economical downturn, as their 3 starting Spartans could defeat anyone dares to approach them without overwhelming Makedonian elites....

What i don't understand is why client Rulers/allied generals have such a high upkeep.
I'm took their province for fun and profit. Not to just break even on paying their salary.
Because client rulers have ordinary units as their bodyguards. Only FM bodyguards don't have an upkeep.
Because having a client kingdom just isn't lucarative as holding the lands yourself.
Actually, you haven't taken there lands at all; so no fun, nor profit.
