I'm fine at keeping it at 25 to be honest; I'm simply at a loss with what to do afterwards considering the rumours that are bandying around.
The "slander case"? What is this all about? What are you accusing us of?
EDIT: I bet senator GE is behind this.

I am not so sure. From what I'm hearing, the attempt to ruin my reputation between sessions was part of a coordinated assault on the mercantile faction. And, that it was your plan.
My guess is that this is the result of an ability to "frame" someone, like I've heard about. Here I'm the one being framed but I can hardly prove it.
I am sorry to see that you turn around so quickly, master merchant, after the progress we made with our relations.

It feels as though you wish to turn aside my votes, but still be able to attack me when the Senate is not in session.
You deny all responsibility for this, and yet, I know what the Religious faction was doing, and so you can't blame them. Who else could it be?
Well, last night I was recruiting bodyguards for my protection, but you should know that we, as senators, are not limited to do only one thing per night, so it's perfectly possible that the vile Religious leader would have been framing me, and also be doing something else (but I am aware that the same logic applies to me).
(OOC/ We can use each ability once per night, but we're not limited to use only one).

Commander Secura
of the Military Faction
Consul of the Senate
Lords of the Senate!
Is this a sign of what is to come in these halls? Petty squabbling, subterfuge and completely irrational decision-making?
We are supposed to be the greatest civilisation in the land, and yet you are degenerating into a group of savages fighting over a piece of meat! What hope is there for us in times of war or hardship if we cannot remain as one for the people?
I see spates of unnecessary aggression against the temple, and I have to call for it to cease; I requested repercussions, not complete annihilation! Our religious men are one of the foundations of our great nation, we cannot allow them to be pushed out of the Senate.
Furthermore, I notice that some of you have cast votes for the representative from the Mercantile faction; what ailment has taken your minds? Have you forgotten that these men have access to vast sums of coin and buy the loyalty of representatives without a second thought?
Handing the power of Consul to any merchant will be an effective means of sounding a death knell for your own views; think about it, do not simply give into the supposedly popular vote.
Onto brighter news, I intend to hold a triumph of our own in Roma later this year, dedicated to the men who gave up their own lives so that your own may live on; we will ensure that their sacrifices are never forgotten.

Giving the Consul position to a member of the Mercantile faction is absolutely foolish; then, not only will they have their bribery to convince men to join their side, but they effectively have other things at their disposal that will ensure their influence increases exponentially.
It's one thing not to vote it to Military again, which is fair enough, but you're fools to give it to Mercantile in our stead.
I cannot sit by as Consul and tolerate parties preying on the temple when they are at their lowest, simply to bolster your own numbers.
Consequently, I have decreed that the last vote of the bureaucracy should be struck from record, returning to the temple what was rightfully theirs in the first place; this will be amended in the end-of-year figures by our revered scribe, Ibn.
It's an effective +1 Religious/-1 Civic, which will be added to the tally by Ibn I believe.
EDIT: Okay, Double A amended it. xD

Consul Secura. Your victories are great for our nation. However, wars are won not by only sword, but also by bread. While you make look at the glint of steel for your shine, for such an auspicious glint to continue it's ability to catch the eye we shall need a more golden shine in the coming days.
Double A
01-14-2011, 04:45
The civic faction provides neither bread nor coin, only consumes them. Were you trying to make an argument there?
vote: Secura
And this renewed shine requires handing the position of Consul to a party that encourages men to switch from one group to another, is that what you are saying?
What will you do if those turncoats came from your own quarter? If you learned that two of your own bureaucrats had changed allegiances to the merchants?
Imagine, then, that it was six or seven men deserting your cause; that is what you welcome if you elect a merchant to be Consul, because that is precisely what they will be capable of.
I fear we may see entire factions vanishing from these halls if this foolishness persists.

Ha! Your memories are as short as your swords.
You should look over the years prior to those most recent, and see whose purse was pulled from first.
As for production: these walls in which you echo, and the stones upon which you stand and travel upon are monument enough. Were this nation run merely by sword, we would be no more than those hairy barbarians to the north.
Our memories are fine, our swords finer still.
We did not profess to be the only group who lost members through bribery over the last few years, but we appealed to better nature that you would all wish to avoid this happening on a grander scale.

The Senate is open for discussions!
Turn 4
Consul Secura held a triumph of her own in Roma. As she said it was "dedicated to the men who gave up their own lives so that your own may live on; we will ensure that their sacrifices are never forgotten." Apparently some members from the Civic faction were so impressed by the might of the army that they decided to switch their faction. -2 to Civic faction
In the same time people talked in the latrines how senator Romanic made very expensive gifts to some senators in the Religious faction. Those gifts were so magnificent that they decided to leave the Religious faction. -2 to Religious faction
However, the more important news was that the leaders of the Populist faction, Romanic and Diamondeye, promised bread and games to the plebs. Who could refuse such an offer? Even senators were interested. So interested that many of them left their faction. -3 to Civic faction; -3 to Religious faction
Behind the great temple of Jupiter three men met. After some heated discussion they nodded to each other and each left their own way. -2 to Populist faction

By the way, apologies for my absence when we got to electing a consule. I obviously believe those who voted for ATPG made a wrong choice, yet I understand GE's reason about wanting a different faction in the seat every year. Let's Vote:Diamondeye this time around. I'll be a fair consule.

Grief? As opposed to the bureaucrats who seem determined to hamper the military at every step?
Nine out of every ten votes that you make are levied against the military; the 'grief' that you claim to be subjected to is mere recompense for your own actions!
What will you do when the merchants become more powerful, holding far more sway over the Senate than the military ever has? Will you continue to hound us then, or will you actually wake up and realise that the fine balance we strive to maintain is being torn apart at the seams?!

I cannot believe that, after all the spiel about ensuring that the position of Consul is passed on to another party year by year, you have performed a dramatic turnaround in opinion and decide to discard your previous stances entirely.
I would have thought that the temple, in the very least, would have been incapable of such hypocritical behaviour; regardless of your own decisions, the military will still uphold the virtues of democracy and fairness even if the rest of you can be easily bought!

Can you not see what's happening?
You are allowing the merchants to bolster their numbers; soon we will see over thirty representatives fighting their cause, and re-electing Senator Pizza will only allow him to further distance himself and his ilk from you all within the coming years.
Don't abandon your democratic ideals and the balance we have maintained here, choose to vote for a new party to take the mantle of Consul.
Askthepizzaguy

Right, and then what occurs once you've removed the Populists from the Senate?
You have gained the favour of both the Civic and Religious factions, and will return their trust by targetting myself and the military; once we are removed, your former allies will simply fall beneath your heel as they will have already ousted the greatest chance they had at maintaining status quo.
I am simply asking the senators to honour their earlier cries for democracy, by voting for the title of Consul to pass onto another party as they previously stated... but it would appear that these cries are falling on deaf ears.
I concede that I wasn't overly keen on taking points from Religious, but what else am I supposed to do? You're Consul now and it's impossible to overturn your votes because of that fact.
At the end of the day, you are doing exactly what I felt you would when we talked privately and you're essentially forcing me to ally with the Populists in order for my faction to survive; we were always going to be next, clearly.
I know that's the aim of the game, but it doesn't do anything to ease the sense of disappointment; we'll just have to see how this plays out now.

That's ridiculous. I had supported you from day one, and I had no contacts with the Civic faction.
You, on the other hand, continually supported the Populists, even as they were my greatest rival. You accused me of plotting your downfall when I had no intention of doing so. When I asked why you thought I would, you pointed out that we would go against each other eventually, so obviously that meant right now.

I just want an ally I can rely on, who will act like one. Politics is a dirty game, and you need friends to survive.
Do not forsake your friends, Secura. Especially when their feelings are genuine.
Firstly, I apologise for this non-roleplaying post, but it was too difficult to convey these thoughts as a character; they're better coming straight from Secura.
You, on the other hand, continually supported the Populists, even as they were my greatest rival.
I have, with the exception of the Civic faction who constantly harass me, supported each faction at some point in the game, your own included. So why are you so concerned with how I respond to the Populists? Does offering them some support on occasion automatically mean that I'm an enemy as well? :/
You cited them as your greatest rivals and I was fine with that, despite the fact that there was no actual basis to your animosity beyond what I believe to be your misinterpretation of the game's mechanics. I still believe that you've misunderstood the popularity rewards, by the way.
You accused me of plotting your downfall when I had no intention of doing so. When I asked why you thought I would, you pointed out that we would go against each other eventually, so obviously that meant right now.
I didn't actually accuse, I stated that it was the obvious choice for you to make from a game perspective; I hoped I'd be wrong on that, to be fair.
Once the Populists were destroyed, you would have to then turn your eyes elsewhere, and since Religious had been compliant with you on most matters, I knew that would mean Military or Civic; since Military has held the greater numbers, it seemed logical that we would be your target of choice after the Populists.
It is you who have pushed me away. You broke my heart, Secur-o. You broke my heart. It was yours, and you trampled on it.
I left home earlier today after speaking with you, mulling over what you'd said and actually deciding to trust you; I return home from Beskar's to find that you've convinced God Emperor and the Civic faction to perform a U-Turn on their previous statements and form a voting block with you.
Since you'd already aligned yourself with Religious/Civic, it seemed as though Military would be shut out in the cold and thus the nature of my posts this evening; I'm not forsaking friends, I'm attempting to make them. >.<

Even now, I cannot bear to turn my back on thee, my enchanting conqueress. But I tell thee, the pain I can bear has limits. A wounded heart can only bleed for so long, before it stops beating entirely. When you left my rose wilting on the senate steps, I had no choice but to try to find other friends to console me. You know what I want, and what I've always wanted. But you refuse me....
Why? Is it because the Populists are more numerous, and thus more valuable to you? Is this all just a mathematical equation, that I am on the losing side of?
Perhaps the days of conquering Gaul have hardened your heart to an old softy like myself. I am not as strong as thou, and I am mostly alone, as my fellow Senator seems to be continually absent. I have always admired the military, and have professed my desire to see you thrive and lifted not a hand to stop you in all your endeavors, be they benign or otherwise.
Nothing the Populists could ever do to me could match the absence I feel in my heart when my truest friend doesn't trust me, sees me as a threat, and denounces me publicly.
Why must you be so beautiful.... :shame:
You must choose who you wish to be allied with, and stop turning me away, else my heart will bleed its last.

The only reason I began voting for you was because you became too powerful. But since you persist with voting me, so too will I, but seeing as I have no quarrel with the Mercantile or Religious factions at the moment, I have two options: the Populists and the Military, and since the Mercantile clearly want rid of the Populists and are doing a reasonably good job, the Military was the only one left. But as you see my votes are roughly half and half between Military and Populists. It'd be all out attack on one of you, but Secura and Romanic have been fair and spread the votes around.

The Senate is open for discussions!
Turn 5
Consul Askthepizzaguy decided to hold a triumph to celebrate the victory over Numidians in south. Though he did not lead any armies he funded an entire legion with his own money. This brought some popularity to him and to his faction. -2 to Populist faction
It seems that sometimes words don't do the job they should do and when that happens swords will be used instead. When senator Diamondeye left from home he was attacked by some thugs. Though both attackers and defenders lost men Diamoneyes's bodyguards managed to protect him. Attackers, realizing they can't kill the senator turned around and vanished into the night. After closer look to the dead attackers one of them was identified as the bodyguard of senator robbiecon.
Rumors were spread that senator Secura was connected to the robbery of some supply carts in the north. Who was behind this unfortunately is unknown.
Consul Askthepizzaguy also was a victim of rumors. People talked on the streets that he actually did not like pizza!
Senators Romanic and Diamondeye were seen with some members from the Religious faction. People saw them making some very extravagant and expensive gifts to them. -4 to Religious faction
Outside the city walls three people met. They shared some words and one of them gave pouches with money to the others. -2 to Populist faction
Rumors were spread by the senator Yoyoma1910 that senator Diamondeye had staged his own attack. Well, some people even believed it.
The leader of Religious faction God Emperor made a long speech against the Populists in the forum. He was outraged that the Populists were buying his supporters with gifts. Some of the Populists were sharing his view. -3 to Populist faction
The Populists, Romanic and Diamondeye, answered with their own speeches how the Religious faction was attacking them for no reason. Considering the recent events many people shared their thoughts and left the Religious faction. -6 to Religious faction

Not to ruin the calm atmosphere in here, but Robbiecon tried to murder me last night. Could we please let this have consequences instead of just following his lead?
This a republic, not a barbaric duel of life and death for the throne.

I think I'll just strike that last vote from the "Populists" from the record.
My only course of action is to attack the merchants with all I have, and expect that the other faction with realize what a threat they are.
Threatening the Consul, too? Oh, but I do believe I'll have to censure you for that.

And take your vile rumors with you! Never has my good name been so besmirched.
Now all the donkeys in Rome are looking at me with accusatory eyes. Telling people I was an "ass man"... The shame of it all.
I've never touched an ass in my life! They plow my fields, that's all! The slaves are the ones who handle asses!

Mule killer???
....Yes... that was the rumor.... I mean of course that was the rumor. Who said anything different?
Here's another dark side to our Consul, that we learned last night:
Consul Askthepizzaguy also was a victim of rumors. People talked on the streets that he actually did not like pizza!
Clearly outrageous.

No. No, you're wrong. As it currently stands, the only person who can cause a lot of damage is your beloved Consul AskThePizzaGuy. We are not out to cause damage, we're out to survive.
