only if you can not live without some formations that are not implemented in Alexander..
But... for me that is not important coz most of those formations were used vastly after the EB time frame... :shrug:
And if you compare AI of ALX.exe and BI.exe ... Well, let's just say that great majority of players that tried ALX.exe after BI.exe are still using ALX.exe

Hi guys..
So I installed EB 1.1, then the mini-mod to make it work with Alex, then TWFanatics Phalanx Mod, then DS' Romani fix to "fix" the various Roman elite troops...Also, I am NOT using trivial script to load the game...I basically just created a shortcut to start RTW-Alx.exe....
NOW FOR THE FUNNY PART....
I am somehow able to both play custom battles with the new Romani units AND still play the Imperial Campaign (seemingly) without having to switch EDU's...
Is this possible? Am I headed for disaster? Its still early in the game and all seems well, should I expect trouble down the road?

Well, installing this again from scratch is an absolute nightmare.
It would help to be as crystal clear as possible in the first post about how to do the install, especially when the SEGA installers are so unhelpful, and continually install things in 'default' locations even when you don't want them to.

Belive it or not but I have my game on D after EB 11 :shrug:
Default location is an issue for the people that dont know how to install the game in alternarive location and make it work
you and me and anyone can install it in any location and the important part about the target line is the part that goes after RTW folder
So you install it anywhere and when you chabge the target you do this at the end

Well i tried to use the trivial script by editing the trivial script config file but it causes some serious bugs. alx.exe started with the trivial script and i could load my campaign but it was running slow and when i ended my turn it messed up all the traits on my characters replacing them all with the same several traits, which prompted me to try a new campaign which does not work with a message to select an item from the list. Switching it back to rtw.exe with the trivial script and that behavior went away and when i used alex.exe through the suggested direct shortcut everything was fine. So guess ill use that for alx.exe but ill miss the minimal UI from the trivial script, is it possible and does anyone know how to use the minimil UI without the trivial script?

I think I blew it and didnt put in the command line modifiers...might this explain why my FM (dentatus) doesnt die?
Also, once I make the change is it save game compatible?
Finally, can this change also be made in the Trivial Script?

Ah, IC. It only comes with Eras. :( That is fairly low price for all of them, but the only one I'm interested in is really just Alex. Are the soundtrack and documentary stuff all that great?

They're cool to have even if they are not the greatest thing since sliced bread...also, it is the easiest way to get Alex, which is the whole point...
which exe allows schiltron for spear units? or is that something for m2tw only? I forgot if BI or alex had it or not.
I want the hoplites to have it, even more deadlier to the calvary.

But ill search through the forums for more info on it although all I've found so far where a few odd comments and "Trivial script (very simple script engine that lets people create graphical interface for simple actions). Allows user friendly change of lighting, game type and modesty patch settings." from the 1.1 release thread. Also I'm retarded as all you need to do for the minimal ui is change a line in the preferences.dat file to true which is where it should logically be.

If you just download the files and change the target you will be fine. also only if that FLeader is over 100 years old you should worry :shrug:
It is save game compatible it's just that it will mess your traits and you are not going to be able to push night battles since descr_start.txt is tweaked.. soo..
I suggest new campaign :grin:
And since TScripti is some kind of optional add-on I am not going to tweak it coz I dont know how.. in any case if someone makes it work I will add it to the main post for everyone :curtain:

Well the only thing that was causing those problems i had was leaving -noalexander out of ebconfig.xml. Just edit line 215 to look like this
<Text>RomeTW-ALX.exe -mod:eb -noalexander</Text>
and alexander works fine with the trivial script. Didn't figure this out myself but saw a mention of it in another thread.

Hello. Great mod you've got here. AI's much improved along with the load times.
So I installed RTW and ALX, installed EB 1.1, copied the files correctly and it runs just fine except for this;

Yup, question marks in traits that call for a foreign alphabet. This applies to every faction, but the traits in english are fine.
no crashes, no weird traits, just this. It's sorta annoying but not really game breaking, just immersion breaking.
Any known fixes?

As I said,my save works,but my cartaginian generals got a lot of strange traits like sweboz victory conditions,seleucid relations,and many more.It seems all mixed up.Did I install it all properly?I mean:

No you can't use shield wall, schiltrom or swimming in Alex.
luvadea, are you using trivial script and if you are did you put -noalexander in the ebconfig.xml file like <Text>RomeTW-ALX.exe -mod:eb -noalexander</Text>
because thats the error i get when it is missing -noalexander. If you are using the shortcut method double check that its in the shortcut target line properly.
Hey I downloaded the modified files and put them in manually, one by one as I didnt see any kind of installer and if I tried to extract them it just put them into a seperate folder, now when I play battles it tells me that several files are missing, I didn't get them all but onagers was there. The battle plays normally once I click OK, but I think if I have a battle with siege equipment or balistae it will CTD, did I put the files in wrong?? I definitely put them in the right locations... or is there an installer in there somewhere?

Fair tidings, and thank you for making and uploading the files to play EB on the alx.exe, I have enjoyed the frame rate boost and improved AI very much indeed and have had the most balanced total war campaigns ever. But it would seem that I have run into some trouble following the installation of EB 1.1, as many letters of my Sweboz traits seem to be replaced by question marks, here is a link to my thread about it for further reference :

I tried starting a new game, even did a reinstall, and the missing letters are still there unfortunately.

Any other EB players out there using the alx.exe who have experienced the same in EB 1.1 ?
It would be very helpful to know if it is a genuine bug or something I´m doing wrong somehow, I would very much like to continue playing on the alx.exe as it has proven, to me at least, to be better than Barbarian Invasion.

I installed the Beta 3 .7z files from the front page of this thread and it changed the starting cash and unit makup of the map. For example Hayasdan started with 40k, 8 gold armour / chevron heavy cavalry with 0 maintenance. Any idea how I can just keep the gameplay changes and be able to keep to the classic campaign?

The only thing that is added in the descr_start.txt (beside the enabled night battles) are the Night battle traits, for at least one FMember in every faction, so that you can enjoj night fights at the start of the game with some generals..
note: many players were not ''that good'' (If I may say it that way) in getting their generals to be Very Good Commanders which would lead to the enabled night battle Traits (to be able to get that trait you need to be really good or you need to have some older generals, in any case you need much time :shrug: ). For example ... in EB only Pyrrhos is able to 'try' to fight at night and no one else :shrug:

I went out and bought the Alexander expansion pack on wednesday. I'm going back home tomorrow (from University for summer), so i'll be able to try it out. I was impressed by the improvements mentioned and I want the best possible experience on EB since I haven't had a chance to go on it in a long time.

I just got Alex and was lookign forward to starting a new campaign. Is there a quick ad dirty way to allow EB 1.1 to function on Alex? I don't use a modd switcher, and would LIKE to use night battles if possible.
also, if you're playing RTW and Alex Gold, what patches do you need to install?

And if you use Gold you dont need patches at all :)
NOTE:
To play Europa Barbarorum using Alexander expansion you need to install RTW that is 1.5 patched and working and then installed ALEXANDER add-on that is also working (without EB)!
Then Install EB + all known fixes for EB and then play it with Alex.exe
For those who just want to COPY- PASTE the uploaded tweaked files (that enable instant game without any manual tweaks) in their EB folders - follow the download link bellow. But remember - you still need to change the EB.exe target line of the EB shortcut as explained bellow! NOTE: these files are only for safe transition to ALX.exe engine (these are not the part of the Alexander EB Team Mod - still, all mod's will have these files included in along with all official fixes) ::

Just a quick thank you for you guys porting EB to Alex.
The battle field AI is so much superior to RTW and BI it just does not bear comparison.
I love the fact that if I am now defending a town I cannot just plonk a phalanx on main street and wait for the enemy to impale themselves. The attackers spread out and come down almost all the approaches to the town center.
When attacking a town they tend to keep people out of range of my missile units while I batter down the wall.
The best one was a bridge battle where I was attacking, they deployed up a hill away from the bridge with a skirmisher heavy army, I had less men but thought the AI is dumb enough just to let me cross. Instead they ran their skirmishers forward, killed all my light troops, ran back and waited for me to attack with my now couple of phalanx's and cavalry which would have been suicide so I legged it.
The AI completly out thought my (admittedly lazy) tactics and could not be happier about. Even if it does make me a simpleton.

aaaa!!! I just dont know... If I cant play MP then I wont get this mod...and another thing is that mi EB is alredy so modify that its like an EB frankenstein... so compatibility whit other mods is another issue
I have to say, I'm very impressed at how the AI is so much smarter for Alex. I'm playing as Rome, and Carthage CONTINUALLY ferries people form North Africa to Spain. They have 5 stacks attacking me on the penninsula.
One question, I scripted for the Lusitanan to spawn an army in Hybernia at a certain year. They spawn,ed but they aren't doing anything! Is it because they see nothing yet? If I spawn a spay there, and they see a settlement nearby, will this cause them to attack it?

belivem that is hardcoded so you need to try moddify more things so the army would move, I spent nights on modding just to make one army go to one direction, so you need to test and test :shrug:

Please excuse me for repeating my question from earlier in this thread, but besides the testament of OmegaWalrus I have yet to find if anyone else of you alex.exe users have seen question marks replacing letters in the traits of Swêboz family members ?
They should be an occurance at least in one trait of every Swêboz character and as such be quite easy to check, even from the start of a campaign.

well I re-copy the files again (alex to eb) cause I had installed the 1.1 fixes...and now it seems to be working...
and I'm using the trivial script... so does that means that I dont have to change the target line? , I just wrote the ALX.exe in ebconfig

BUT when I try to play campaing (clic start campaing) it sends me back to SP menu

it says it makes it possible for low end computers to play EB but, what about one old like mine?:

i can play Vanilla with med or high unit detail, large size, unit shaders (without them some units have no feet) and everything else on lowest. I play DarthMod, RTR PE and TIC as well with the same "quality" but when i tried EB 1.1 i had 5 minutes turns and it was not bearable.
if it's gonna lag lots i don't mind waiting until i can buy a new computer.

-then copy paste the backup files again to where they belong overwriting maksimus'
-add manually the changes (its not that hard you can do it in about 10 or less min)

Do I need to activate night battles? Ive edited the text files correctly without changing anything concerning night battles and it doesnt work. You cant start a campaign or load a save game. The mod itself doesnt make any problems but lacks the bugfixes which is really annoying.

Having trouble getting Alex to run. Getting the error "Cannot find chat_filter.san in //Data/EB/Data"
I have copied this file over to the EB/Data directory. Cannot find any issue.

Ive changed the txt files once again and and and it still doesnt work. Ive got the same problem here. Check the files plz! Both night battles enabled and disabled cause a ctd when trying to start a campaign or load a game. :-(

well first of all the AI unit is pretty much independant of evey other minimod that I've seen here, same whit Force diplomacy , you you can install them whit no problems whatsoever , just copy & paste :2thumbsup:

well... the only thing that the mod does is use the original EB but whit alx.exe , (which enables night , battles , enemy sea invasions ,right now in my campaign carthage send a lot of troops to sicily , more unit slots (this is probably not really a thing for many of you , but if for example one day you want to add the TW fanatic's aquilifer , you dont need to erase any existing unit; and so on

I installed last night and it worked just fine - looking forward to a real challenge from the Carthies for a change!
plus, by the way, I also installed sinuhet's AI formations and camillus' player formations over the top, plus the naval stratmap mod and all are compatible
a suggestion when instaling minimods (it might requiere some memory :P) is that when you download a minimod , dont just unpack it into the RTW folder right away, is better to unpack somewhere else and check what files they change (if its inside the package , it changes it) , and try to remember if any of the other minimods (OR fixes) change that file too , if thats the case , those two are "uncompatible" , that means that in order to get them working you need to open your file and add the changes manually (at first is a little hard , then you become a natural :laugh4:)
usually the most common changed files are : export_descr_character_traits.txt , export_descr_vnvs_enums.txt, descr_strat.txt

I haven't played EB since some of the very early releases so decided to give this a try but have downloaded and installed the latest version (as I only heard about this project after I'd downloaded EB 1.1) so am assuming this wouldn't work with 1.1? Will there be a point when this mod is updated to work with 1.1? Sorry if this has already been answered but didn't look over all the pages in this thread.

I just thought I'd drop back in to let you know how much I'm enjoying playing EB1.1 on alex.exe
In fact I had some compatibility problems with my romani savegames (from bi.exe) - my family members had picked up a bunch of sweboz ethnicity traits, and the minimap in the bottom corner was all in primary colours...
So I started a new KH campaign thinking this would be a great way to showcase the differences between Bi.exe and alex.exe
and so far I'm loving it! Makedon are reinforcing by sea across the aegean and retraining their troops when I beat them back - it's a tough fight so far but I intend to come out on top.

I tell you this ''product'' stand.
EB team made a mod that is OFFICIALLY - ownership of SEGA - in the other words Sega can use all these mods and mini*mods here - pack them - make a new game called EB - make money and give nothing to anyone (and I found this out from and EB member and some CA employes from TWC + you should read the licence agreement).
Second, I made this mod with FULL KNOWLEDGE OF EB team - and they agreed on using ''EB'' name maybe becasue they needed some boost in popularity or someone to test ALX.exe on EB (so they just gained popularity on this mod - did not lose any).
Now, IT IS NOT TRUE they dont support other mod's - they do, but selective, when some members feell like it. I am a modder, I talked to them, some supported me some DID NOT WANT - that other group of ppl made EB team stand officially on this mod as the one they ''dont support'' (I remember when I saw in few thread's EB team members giving specific EBBS and *txt info to some modders, they did not want to give that info to me when we in this team needed it most)
And, ''mate'' - i dont need to get over anything, no one stoped modding my mod and I did not make this kind of comment while I was modding, bot only now after thousands of downloads, of EB1 and EB11 on Alx.exe
Once again, I whish only to address those EB members that did a selective support to some minimods and they did not do it to others - like this one. For me it was pure discrimination sometimes and I WONT name anyone, it is long gone I just made this comment so ppl could see one of the reasons I quit one modding this - I will make sam comment on TWC if one ask me.

Maksimus, I find it difficult to understand anything about our team when you are not privy to what goes on inside the EBH.
Firstly your remarks are false, secondly they are offensive, thirdly - wtf!?
As a team we do not support any third party mod of EB above any other, all have equal weight in this forum (except for MAA's city mod and the Force Diplomacy mod - I don't know why those have been stickied they just have). Where a mod for EB explores an interesting area that we would wish to expand in our next release (such as the work on the Ai money script a while back), we will follow and even recruit those modders, but we have never ever endorsed a 3rd party modification of EB as a team.
As individuals, we are all volunteers and we all have our own temperaments. Sometimes I'll like a person and be more inclined to help them when they ask a question, sometimes I won't like a person and not be inclined. But that is a personal decision from one modder to another and not any kind of team support.
I don't know where this poison comes from, Maksimus, and to be honest I don't really care. As for your advice, we do read what the fans have to say, but we also can disagree with it. We have never desired or planned to make EBI for anything other than the RTW engine. A long time ago we decided to not explore the route of using BI or alex. Alex may well offer a better AI engine, but that is not our concern. So we do listen to fans, we also disagree with fans. If we didn't (hyperbole alert!) then the celts would be a walk-over and Lorica Segmentata would be on every unit.
As for using EB, if you didn't how the hell would people know that this was a modification for EB. I'm sorry to say but you certainly did not boost our popularity by any great amount, just as we certainly didn't boost the popularity of RTW by any amount. You need EB to play Alex EB just as you need RTW to play EB. People without RTW are very unlikely to be drawn to EB, just as people without EB are very unlikely to be drawn to Alex EB.
Our popularity has been doing fine, clocking up tens of thousands for downloads before Alex EB was even imagined.
I would suggest that you leave as you planned to do. Allow your mod to continue under the auspices of others and don't worry about how EB did or did not support your mod but did or did not support other people's mods. It really is not worth it.

It is something different from "support" as in "help contribute to". Compare it to the official "support" you would receive from CA/SEGA when it comes to Q & A & troubleshooting. Does CA/SEGA help you out if you screw up when installing EB? No, most definitely not. Does CA support a modification such as EB from a "we like what you are doing" point of view? Yes, they do. They even help contribute (to mods in general) by responding to certain questions & clarifying certain game behaviour.
But that should not suggest CA members will dedicate their free time to help us modders fix our own bugs; just as it should not suggest the EB team will help you or the people who use your mod fix your & their bugs... Maybe, perhaps, it certainly could be that some individual would; but the team(s) as a whole will not. Hence the predicate "unsupported", and no big stamp of approval.

Yes, when one EB modder helps some ppl and dont help all ppl - you can call it ''individual volunteer temperament'' - I like to call it ussually discrimination ! That was the poison, some basic info about modding EBBS script some forum members recived directlly with not problem, i needed to test in for days (with some EB members comments - ''I dont care, if you make big modd you must do it yourself'')
In the last month I wanted to say that some of those issues were one of the reason I quit modding EB. And YES - some EB members ''individual volunteer temperaments'' made them refuse to give basic info on things I needed bad just to modd basic stuff. I did not recive it while ''some'' others did (no, not all ecept me, I am sure more ppl like me quited modding coz of that).

Well now that we can all move on from Maksimus's little problem with our lack of time for him. If people want to continue with this mod that is fine. If an EB team member helps anyone with the alex mod that is fine. If they don't that is, contrary to popular opinion, fine also. Both sides have represented themselves and I'm sure that others will be able to decide whether the EB team are either systematically ignoring some mods based on arbitrary criteria or just a bunch of volunteers who have limited time and who can sometimes feel in a giving mood and sometimes don't.
Lets get back on track, if this thread continues to head sideways then I will close this thread down and [[Lz3]], if he wants, can start his own thread to continue the Alex Mod.

I've used the latest links provided for EB 1.1 but my family members seem to be immortal. Family leader reached 89 but he simply refuses to die. I haven't seen any immortality trait in the export_descr_character_traits file either in EB folder so I'm confused. Does anyone know any way to fix this? I was some 20-30 turns into a new campaign but then tried a hands-off campaign to check this out after reading a similar report, thank goodness that I did.
I was hoping for playing with ALX.exe as the AI felt superior so I'm keeping from starting another campaign till I figure out a solution to this.
BTW, I just realized that I had used those 1.1 hotfixes earlier which included the change to the same file I mentioned above. Might that be the reason? Just checked and saw that the original file which came with ALX.exe pack included the immortal trait. Would everything be alright if I replaced it again? Would that break the hotfix though? The hotfix I'm meaning is the Client Ruler Fix on the 1.1 hotfixes page.

Hi, I do everything that it has to do, and it continues appearing this window when I put in the campaign "please, select an item from list".., in the battle neither it ends up to coming in. Help me please.
I've got the same problem...i'm trying to run EB through ALX.exe i have done all the fixes in the first post, have changed the ebconfig...wot else is there? It still says "Please select an item from the list".
Its infuriating lol...anyone know whats up? The posts about this seem to be ignored, so there's no answer to follow that i can find...and i did search through all 30 pages of this thread. The only answer i saw was to OverweightNinja's problem, and that was to do with adding -noalexander...and i've done that.
At the moment, EB loads and opens, but the main campaign only comes up with the message of please select one from the list. This is what my target looks like:-
"C:\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-ALX.exe" -mod:eb -noalexander''
Are there any mistakes? I manually changed the things on the first post using c&p, so its possible they could be slightly wrong, would any of those affect the campaign?
This is a fresh install of Rome (1.5) and Alexander, and EB with all the permanent and optional fixes, as this is a different comp from my usual EB station, so theres no other mods to clash.
I hope this range of information prompts a few more responses and hopefully solutions than just saying it doesnt work. Help is greatly appreciated, and if you know why it doesnt work due to that message please post solutions, i've spent my entire evening trying to make this work.

I've a heavily moddified EB and it works without problems.
did you downloaded maksimus' original files? , I suggest doing so, backup the next files of your EB instalation: EDCT, export_descr_VnVs_enums.txt, export_VnVns (in text folder) and descr_strat
then unpack maksimus files , and after that... copy&paste your backup files back to where they were , overwriting maksimus' and do all the changes in those files, remember you must use windows notepad to edit export_vnvs.txt
from what I've heard , if you have a problem when starting a campaign is caused by errors in EDCT, alternately , if you don't have any other minimods installed , you could use the link above
and as a side note... why you're not using trivial script? , its better! :yes:
the instructions to moddify it are in page 38 of this thread , but here they go nonetheless
1-open your ebconfig.xml file (with any text editor , but I suggest notepad++ here) located in your RTW folder
2- go to line 215 or alternately search for .exe and change that line so it looks like this:
<Text>RomeTW-ALX.exe -mod:eb -noalexander -show_err</Text>
now you can use your regular EB shortcut , NOT the one with the changed target line

Aw crap. I wish I had known that. I finished installing ALX.exe with EB like 20 minutes ago. I also installed that mod-pack of yours to go with it. It's working great so far. Anyway, what sort of files are outdated? Is there a way I can still get yours without reinstalling the whole thing since it took me almost 2 and 1/2 hours to download everything and then I spent alot of time tweaking around with the script :gah:

trivial script allows you to personalize your EB in an easier way , (start > programs > EB > configuration)
and most important , it changes automatically between MP and SP EDUs
to edit those file you need to right click it and then "open with" and select a text editor :yes:

sort of... AI formations yes...but sorry... spoils is not compatible with this unless you manually add the SoV text blocks to your files , wich isn't very difficult.

Friend, me sorry is not most EP necessarily that is demanding, is yes one of these MOD´S.. If I not me mistake has a MOD who has this function, of speed up of the game so that load among turns pass more fast...

Yes, that's the problem. You need to have the "immortal" trait added to EDCT (and the other trait-files). This is not save-game compatible. Otherwise switching the exe mid-game is no problem. A workaround, provided you don't want to start a new campaign, might be to run some turns with the RTW.exe when you have a couple of very old characters, to allow the engine to kill all zombies of old age (not tested, but it should work).

Unfortunately after many turns of using Alex save games no longer load on RTW ( I get KTM ), so this does not work.
So right now I have a problem with my 230BC very nice Romani campaign.

A good sign are not matching attributes, like a character having ten management scrolls even though he should have none according to his traits. Another thing would be "impossible traits", like a Saka faction leader being of the Roman gens Cornelia or such.

I cant see any strange traits.
The trick is to add Immortal trait at the end of trait list so position of all original traits is unchanged.
the other not retroactive thing when switching to alex.exe are night battle traits, cause you need to enable night battles in desc_strat file which is... non retroactive , so you might not get any night battle related trait :sweatdrop:

to see if it's working alt-tab out of the game and instead of the red rtw icon there should be a purple one , as for night battles , when you're about to fight a batle there should be an option say "attempt night attack" select it if you can (FM must have more than 4 stars)

Don't have any other modification! so lucky me. I found it by looking at your link in the first place ;). Also I tested a new game and found the night battle box hidden in a corner and it was a purple icon when minimized. It isn't there on any of my saves though :(
Maksimus should delete that part... the conversion to alex.exe is not save game compatible... at least not right now, if you continue you will probably mess up your current games :sweatdrop:
as for the night battles, they will only work when starting a new campaign :sweatdrop:
if you would like to keep your old campaigns I suggest using the backup file heheh so you don't loose them

Don't automatically assume people are rude, because occasionally it can make you look rude yourself. I didn't even see your post, I looked at the other answer and did a quick post so I didn't even see yours. Anyways, I'm pretty sure all you need is alexander for this. And I installed alexander after eb was already there, and having no problem if that is what you meant. And having unmodded alexander would probably be good. I don't know much about this mod so I'm not really one to ask about this kind of stuff.

you need to have alexander instaled before using this minimod, you don't need to uninstall anything ,just install alexander on top of everything else (this should work but there could be issues if you don't have a clean vanilla rtw)

You could also try playing the expansion too. Consider it as a challenging RTW-vanilla experience. I bought it mainly to use it in EB but I spent a lot of time playing the campaign (twice!) and the historical battles, like Chaeronia, Granicus, Issus, Gaugamela etc.

I was just wondering if you had managed to get ALX.exe EB running on Steam, having a bit of trouble myself.
edit: I managed to get it running by installing EB in my Alexander folder, then installing the fixes, formation files and ||Lz3||s download into that EB installation. It seems to be running ok, the only problem I have noticed is no intro movies, could I run into problems?

Kovoged, this mod doesn't change the recruitment system. It permits you to play EB with a better AI.
I think your problem is that you're still in the Camillan or Polybian period, where troops can only be recruited with a type I government in Italy. After the Marian reforms (see the faq for details), you can recruit practically all over the Mediterranean.

well... there's a mod pack with alexander EB... that will give you the mod pack AND alexander as the working exe
also in first post there are 3 ways to get EB working with alexander:
1-Download Maksimus files -alexander EB beta 2 , this files contain a complete mod , not only they change to the exe , but also units , treasury as well as 2-3 more units
2-Download my files in first post. however there's an error in those files , I dont recomend it -sweboz traits get weird characters and there's no night battle related traits ,my bad... :sorry2:

3-make the changes yourself so EB can work with alexander -you can find what you need to do in the first post

I did this and while it starts fine, whenever I try to load a campaign I get a CTD with no show_err message and also some historical battles don't work anymore. Custom battles seem to work fine though.

Strange. This is how I made it to work. You did copy this new Alex file right? (it was bad word blacklist, cant remember file name )
the most common forgotten files is chat_filter.san or something... but that makes the game ctd at the game launch, you can't even get to the main menu

My problem is that I only have one ALEX.exe shortcut for EB, and it runs whatever EDU file I happen to have in the Data folder. It also opens with the preconfigured setting of whatever I happened to run last time (sp or mp). If I want to play the campaign, I have to open EB sp using the trivialscript sp shortcut that came with EB, exit it out, then start up ALEX.exe. I would prefer to skip this lengthy step if it is possible.
you dont have your original 2 EB shortcuts?:inquisitive:
their target line should say
"C:\[wherever your rtw is]\EBTrivialScript\EBTrivialScript.exe" -s ebconfig.xml -runeb -type "Single Player"
and change the "Single Player" to "multiplayer" in the other shortcut

I do have my original EB shortcuts, but I want to run EB with ALEX.exe. Those two original shortcuts run with RTW.exe.
then its a bit freaky-ti-bi-kity ... cause the changes in ebconfig file , changed the trivial script... meaning that you can play (and so you should) use the original EB shortcuts
if its not working then... my guess would be that the trivial script isn't working for some reason and/or the changes in ebconfig file werent made/saved correctly :huh:

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, so the original "sp" and "mp" shortcuts that I used to start EB with before ALEX now run EB with ALEX? How can I know that EB is being run with ALEX.exe?
if you have a quick eye :P the moment you launch EB an icon should appear in the lower section of your screen, this icon should be purple... instead of RTW red
if you miss this you can always alt tab out of the game and/or open the task manager where you should be able to see if the rome total war program is using alex... or RTW icon

Sorry to be late for the party, but I can recommend this setup to anyone! Absolutely top-notch work by all involved. I'm having a blast playing this and it really does run much quicker, especially with regards to the AI's moves and load/exit times. And of course EB 1.1 + Alex's .exe makes for VERY addictive gameplay. Everyone have fun; I'm going back to playing now! :beam: First-rate modding goodness!

1- I dont know... I think not many know but for example LoTR (Lord of The Rings) total was uses alex and now is using 324 unitslots and they haven't reached the hardocoded limit yet , they are looking to add even more units :P, so who knows... there's a lot of new unit spaces :beam:
2- up to you :P , personally I added the Aquilifer (thanks to you :medievalcheers:) and even more italic allies for the romani :P , I did not created those units though :sweatdrop: , I just... merged several mods together :P
and in another example mucky added more imperial and praetorian units, it's totally up to you :2thumbsup:

1- If im not mistaken ALex.EXE raised the model cap from 250, to 330(or something like it, but i believe its 330), the Units Slot is still 500, but we are still far from reaching it!
2- What new Units? whatever units you feel like it=))))))))) Depends on whatever floats your boat.
To me its ethnical diversity, so i added a lot of units and principes/hastati variants all over italy=), as well as the mauryan army units from Res Gestae in Indian, Several iberian armies across the Iberian Peninsula, several units across north africa, a lot of celtic new units, the Chinese units present in EB ALEX in 1.0, i put in new Horse models for pretty much every horse in the game...the list goes on... As i said, you can add pretty much whatever you want=)))))

the advantage of using alexander exe is really noticeable , and the ammount of things you could do with it its also amazing , but unfortunately I lack the modding skills/creativity/time to create a full quality mod

I wonder if there are any units that the EB team discarded and/or replaced that we could request the spare parts from.
Also, maybe we could have local hoplitai for each Hellenic city-state rather than merely "classical hoplitai."

either way I haven't made many modifications regarding unit slots... I do have lots of ideas but not the will power/time/energy to apply them :sweatdrop:

BTW i tried installing the Republican legions of RS into my EB back in the day of 0.8X beta, the work was huge, the results although satisfying proved to be a lackluster, as i wasted about 30+ model slots just for the legions alone, and then my pc had to be formated...GG!!!
My advice...get a generic Legionary model, a generic centurion model, and then several models for the various standard beares...that will save you a lot of work, as well as model slots, that can be used for other stuff=)

that's why I didn't used them... EB has turned me in a history geek now I can't whitstand historical inaccuracy :sweatdrop: but it's certainly plausible , not... that difficult though ...but rather time consuming

However, adding units which did not historically exist (or existed out of EB's timeframe) is utterly against the EB ethos and would ruin my EB experience by making it just like any other mod. I'd rather play EB and those other mods seprately, even if that means less units.

I'm honestly "scared sh**less" about the savegame... :worried: cause... I did modified the EDCT... which means your traits will be all messed up :scared:
I was running EB1.1 on Alex.exe using the files in the first post of this thread. Then I had to reformat my HDD so I reinstalled EB1.1 and used the files from your signature instead.
Now my save games from my previous installation run fine, except that my traits are all messed up. I am playing as KH and all my family members have the 'Basileus' trait and the 'Monopthalmus' trait.
Is there anything I can do to fix this, or do I need to start a new campaign?
try using the files in the first post again... if that doesn't work... sorry bro
I lost a 40 years long campaign when I was creating these files for example :(

well...
the first ones contain errors I made by accident when I modded the files in somewhat a rush :sweatdrop:
so Sweboz traits have weird characters like "?" Sw?b?z for example
and I'm not sure about this but there might not be a chance to get night battle related traits
those were fixed in the links of my sig :sweatdrop: but aren't SGC
I would change the files in the main post but since maksimus s the one who made it... I can't edit it..
