Ok, since you're a fellow Norseman, and you may need some assistance I guess I could post in both English and Norwegian.
I am 25, just hobbyist interest. Shogun:Total War was the first TW game for me back in 2001, and I could never turn back to regular RTS (Supreme Commander is an exception). My interest in history increased. I work on a local helicopter base here for the offshore oil industry. I'm not playing EB as much though, don't have so much time available. I've been a member of the EB team since 2005. My job in EB has been to coordinate and initiate the translations and recordings of voicemods. So I recruit able translators, I seek the help of professors, or I acquire obscure grammar books, I recruit voice actors and oversee the quality of the voice recordings. I've also been a researcher on ancient siege warfare.
Where in Norway are you from, and your age?

Well I'm a guy, I'm 16 and am still in high school. It's supposedly the best high school in the country so perhaps that's a bit telling. Anyways classical history has been a great interest of mine for as long as I can remember, though recently I've been neglecting it in favour of linguistics, cultural anthropology, the study of myth and even more recently philosophy. Once I get to university I'll most probably study history of somesort and end up as a dingy old academic.

Well I'm not. Yeah, sounds a bit rich coming from someone who plays EB but unlike the real Orghas (sp?) I manage to do it only once a week. And seriously, what's with the self-demeaning attitude? Everybody here doesn't have to be a nerd with achne and no social life, and no-one here has to be a party animal who gets drunk every Friday and just plays EB while hung-over.

I'm a 24 year old Polock that lives in Port St. Lucie, Florida (USA). I am a apprentice Electrician. I love strat games and once Rome - Total War came out I fell in love with it. I played RTR first then found EB and have played it since. I actually got hooked on History and warfare cause of EB, crazy isnt it? Medieval 2 came out and I went crazy cause I could play Poland and show the Holy Roman Empire what a massive calvary charge feels like lol. That was fun but I came back to EB again.
BTW v. 1.2 is doing good so far. I played Pontus a couple times and quit cause the game crashed after the first or second major battle or if I took a city (why I dont know). Now I am play Pontus and its almost 229bc and I'm kicking Selcuid a$$. Love it, good work. Can't wait for EB 2.
P.S. Big thanks to you northern europeans for the trance, techno, and acid music. I love that stuff, always listen to it when I play EB.

So I have history only as my hobby temporary. But I am not planning to take it further than as a hobby. But when I finish high school, I will probably study history and social studies or something I find cool, becouse I have allways wanted to become a teacher. I have allways liked history and in 2004 when rome total war came out it took off. I have never played any other games since (exep playing aoe2 over LAN on my school, and Jediknight starwars in the easter hollidays). Exept that, only total war and mods. So I read a lot and buy all books I can get now, and I am starting to become more unsocial

An 18 year old U.S. guy here, planning on becoming a radiologist. In addition to a casual interest in history, I've always loved strategy games and picked up Rome when it came out because of my experiences with Medieval: Total War, which I firmly believe to be one of the finest games ever made. A pity it doesn't run on my new computer.
As for EB, I didn't play it for the longest time because I stupidly thought it was 'just a barbarian mod' and went for RTR instead - which I don't altogether regret, as RTR is a very fine mod. But when I gave EB another try, I was hooked, for one simple reason; it's huge. Really huge. I played for hours and hours and still hadn't seen everything it had to offer, and I eat that sort of gaming experience up. It also taught me more than a few things, and sparked a thirst for more knowledge (I've already spent over $50 on books on Carthage alone thanks to EB).
Another thing that kept me playing is the sheer amount of detail in the mod, especially as far as graphics, which normally don't impress me much. But the unit models are just gorgeous - seriously, whoever skinned the Indohellenikoi Eugeneis Hoplitai should get a medal.
I'd better stop before I get carried away.. :embarassed:

Recently turned 18 (Yay! LEGAL alcohol for me :clown:) half-swede, half-norweigan. Living in Sweden, southernmost parts, where its warm and.. Well, farmlands everywhere. Living near, and currently studying in Lund, big centre of learning in Sweden. Currently studying at a "Gymnasium" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gymnasium_(school) ) reading the Social Sciences program, with focus on Social Sciences - Jurisprudence. After I'm done with that (In about half a year) I'll take a year off, work some, and "live", before starting to study again, with the aim being to become a diplomat. I mean, I've always wanted to simply walk around in Europe opening up trade-agreements and alliances with each and every country I come across, and oh! The ocassional bribe... I'm thinking that Sweden would benefit alot if we bribed over Prince Charles of the UK, but we'll see.
Love playing EB due to my own deep interest in ancient history (Amongst history in general) and beacuse it's simply a wonderful game in its own right (Also an avid gamer). There seem to be this trend that you write that you're not a "nerd" or some such, but I'll just be honest and say that while I'm no nerd, I'm certainly not a faboulosly renowned party-guy, though I'm not a friendless nerd that's never enjoyed the.. And since many people here are bragging with their culturally diverse background I might as well tell mine: I'm and an Anglophone Finn with a Turkish father. It might sound simple but it really confuses a lot of people when they get to know me. Since I've spoken English with my father (who is a UK citizen like me) ever since I was born and because I've conducted all my studies in English it's as strong or perhaps even stronger than my Finnish. So when people ask howcome you speak such good English I tell them all that, and by the time I have to explain to them that my father is also Turkish (born and raised in Izmir, lived in England for 15 years or so) the look of sheer incredulity on their faces is priceless. And every single time I tell this the response is the same: "But you don't look Turkish at all!" Yeah, I suppose blue eyes and light brown hair don't look Turkish, but that statement never ceases to irritate the hell out of me. And despite the fact that I think mostly in English and am ethnically half Turkish in terms of cultural identity I'm 100% Finnish.
On a different note, are there any other people who either have or are completeing the IB diploma program? Since this is a really international and fairly well-educated group I'd imagine there to be more than just me.

Another Swede here, but this example is 20 years old and currently studying economics. I live in Stockholm, a very beautiful city that I love and fanatically devote my life to, but have my blood-ties further up north in insignificant villages no one save the (extremely few and ever decreasing) inhabitants themselves know of.
Ever since I heard of M:TW I've been a sucker for the TW series, and have become more and more interested in history, which naturally drew me towards the more historical mods out there. When R:TW came out and my ears stole some whispers that there was a new mod called Europa Barbarorum being planned, my bloodhound nose never turned away, and I have been playing it pretty much ever since it first came out. Needless to say, it has only made me even more interested in history, to the point that I've taken it upon myself to find books and learn about it on my own when I can. That kind of interest is only matched by my interest in evolutionary psychology, but that's a different matter entirely.
I guess that sums me up well enough.

Re: what kind of people play eb?
I am a 15 year old high school kid born and currently living in the U.S. I am not married and have no kids. I am also despised by many on the forum. I got really interested in ancient history at a early age. I am also obessed with every Roman. I used to not play many computer games because my old computer couldn't handle anything, but since I got a new one almost two years ago I have been playing alot. This also led me to get a copy of Rome total war which I happened to see lying about in a store one day. After a few months of playing it I was looking at a wikipedia article about the game when I saw a link to RTR and EB, so I followed both. after looking at both websites for the mods, I decided EB's website looked prettier so I downloaded it. It was a good decision on my part. I have tried many mods since then, but EB is my favorite.

e: remember to say how you got into rome total war and why you chose EB!
I'm just an average fulān (palestinian/ american one) out to have a historical experiance really. I started playing RTW partly out of interest in hellenistic warfare (i had already learned of AS, and wanted to experiance ruling a giant empire), but mainly beacuse of two things:
1-the laptop I write on has enough memory(100GB+), so I figured i'd get a fitting game.
2-It get's off thinking about someone I knew in highschool:shame: (the sig says it all)
I started playing age 17, after I graduated highschool. and I installed the game on June 27, 2007 (8 o'clock), the day I got my laptop. I first had EB in september of 2007 (EB o.81), got 1.0 on october 12(1 o'clock in the afternoon), 1.1 by april 13 (4 in the afternoon), and 1.2 was downloaded just yesterday (two thirty in the afternoon).*
as to why I got EB, that's a very funny story; you see, I had pretty quickly got mad at CA for the arcani, head hurlers, and yes, backwarded gauls. So, looking for a proper historical mod to do all factions justice, I went ahead and saw if the game could be modded. I found out it could, and that there was already an RTR mod out there. after getting the patches and installing it properly, I watched in horror as the game CTD'd while loading itself up:wall:. I later found that there was an unusual bug peculiar to the computer, which rendered any RTW 1.2 useless. So I went searching again for a more user friendly mod**, and found me this one. the rest is history.
and you know what's funny: I hate smilies, yet I find them necessary for some reason:inquisitive:
*I have the unusual ability of remembering key dates, so I know when all was done. yes, all this is out of memory.
**this is not an anti RTR story. that's just what happened.
EDIT: I'm going into paleontology-screw what my parents say..

Re: what kind of people play eb?
So, I am 18 (had birthday in october), study chemistry at university. I like natural sciences a lot, especially chemistry, physics and maths, most likely will work as physical or theoretical chemist. In addition to this I like history (especially ancient and medieval) as a hobby too, it has roots in my childhood when I read encyclopedies a lot and was interested in everything, which remained.
My favourite PC games are strategies and the first of TW series was MTW. Then I started Rome, but it disapointed me a little. Then I found RTR and later EB (0.8), which is my most favourite game.
And finally I don't consider myself a total nerd. I have many normal hobbies too.

also, you'd be surprised about me. I am quite booksmart, but I have little to no common sence, usually tied to what I learned. I can come up with ideas quickly, but I can also freeze in mid-thought. I can write this post with perfect spelling, and speak classical arabic perfectly, but I tend to jumble my english and arabic dialect in speech (people can't understand half of what I'm saying). I'm quite a loner (all my friends here number less than 10), yet here am I posting here. I can be very nice one moment, unbelievebly cruel the next (asshole and sweet being the two most common epithets). I speak like a midwesterner, yet I have a good deal of british english vocabulary, form all the british in Kuwait (arse for example*). I can write a good poem without thought, but a prose work is difficult past page 3.
I'm a wierd bundle of contradictions I guess. then again, we all have issues now, don't we.

Well I'm a 21 year old Romanian (apparently the only one around here:laugh4:) guy. I study economics and I have always been fascinated by history.
I've always liked strategy games and RTW was ALMOST a dream come true. I quickly found the diplomacy system to be worthless, after a few campaigns I could predict the AI easily, and it slowly became clear that it wasn't historically accurate (I hated Egypt, burning pigs and Arcani) . I uninstalled\reinstalled the game several times until I found EB. That made the game perfect.
I think I am one of the few that has never finished a campaign in EB (either ended by a CTD, loss of interest or accidentally deleting my savegame:wall:).

I'm 17, I'm from Hawaii, I almost love EB as much as surfing and I really enjoy Northern European history especially Celtic and Dark Ages Britain. I'm hoping to study anthropology and history after I graduate from high school this year, or maybe just stay home and surf.
I run cross-country, track and pole vault. I'm pretty athletic, and playing EB is my dark secret. If my chick found out I would get dumped. I got into EB because I started playing Age of Empires when I was like ten, then found RTW. I got irritated with RTW because it was very vanilla. Lol. I don't even remember how I found EB, but after playing it for twenty minutes I've never played vanilla since.
Anyone else from the Big Island? I highly doubt it.

Well... I'm 17.
I live (and was born) in Colima, Mexico (it's a veeeery tiny little state, one of the 3 smallest) I've always liked history, ancient, medieval, WW2 mostly, and I'm incredibly good at handling dates, however I think of history as a hobby, I also like Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Math and Informatics.
I discovered RTW thanks to a friend, I bealive around April 08, and since I had always dreamed about bein a general and stuff I was hooked with the game really easily, it's just that lately I haven't had the time to play, and when I have, I usually play FPS :sweatdrop:
I'm not an steriotypical nerd, I don't wear glassed, I don't have acne or anything like that, I'm tall and I like to think good looking. I'm the one with the highest grades in my school, and pretty much every one I know likes me, still I don't really have that many friends, mostly cause they don't share my interests, and they prefer to get drunk go to parties etc while I rather read a book or play a videogame, that's why many people think I'm boring and weird.
I'm going to university in 8 months! :wall:
I'm going to be an industrial engineer or sistems engineer.

Helsingin Suomalainen Reaalilyseo, tuttavallisemmin Ressu. Depends on the country. German universities won't accept it at all (for Germans... they make exceptions for foreigners, i think). I did the IB in the US and compared to other american high schools, you definately have a gigantic advantage, but that isn't really surprising, hehe

Re: what kind of people play eb?
I am a 15-year old Russian who lives in Florida for most of the year. I am a major nerd and a bookworm, particularly interested in history. Ancient Roman and 20th century history (especially WWII) are the two areas of my greatest expertise. The period I like the least in early Feudal to Late Medieval, even though I know quite a bit about them. The first book I have ever read, when I was five years old, was a history book about the medieval to modern times, on a middle school reading level, so it wasn't all pictures. Anyway, in Russia, children start reading later, usually at five, but that it is because in comparison to US, the starting-out type of books in Russia are in what is about third-grade level reading in US. I guess it was because of that book that I enjoy and read about history so much.
My other major interests are: reading (history non-fiction, historical fiction, sci-fi, alternate history), writing, building models, sketching, politics, economics, biology and astronomy, as well as psychology. Quite a bit of interests, but I read books very quickly, so I have time for all of them. I am currently enrolled in a law program in my high school and plan on studying for a lawyer (in a law school) after university.
I began playing computer games, specifically RTS games when I was 11. My first two games were Age of Empires II and Age of Mythology. I began playing TW games in general just last year, while in the beginning of 10th grade. By that time I had a couple of RTS games I wasn't playing anymore and I had a good friend who I knew would like them. So I gave him a couple of my CDs and he in turn presented me with a copy of RTW. I played the game from autumn to late spring of that school year until I grew bored and wanted to try out something new, something without the LS and Arcani, something that was more historically accurate and in-depth. I already knew about the fact that there were a ton of mods for RTW, so I did a bunch of research and decided to download either EB or RTR. However, the campaign map and the RTR units looked uncomfortably similar to the vanilla ones, so I opted for EB. It looked like the most complete, radically different and lively mod of them all and plus it was also the most historically accurate one too, so that's why I chose EB v1.1 in April of this year.
I also began frequenting these forums in March of this year, before I actually downloaded EB. I was a lurker, but I read and followed every thread. By May I was going to join .Org, but I knew that I would be out of US for the whole summer, so I put it off until August, when I came back from my annual travels.

Re: what kind of people play eb?
In 9th grade, been playing RTS since 4th grade when a friend introduced me to Age of Empires II. I then found a friend who we did these "simulation battles" with in 6th grade. Asked him what he based it off, he said M2TW. I found RTW and liked it, but read the Wikipedia article on RTW, which pointed out it was historically inaccurate, which I agreed with (Look at those Egyptians). I saw RTR and EB in the mods, and clicked on the EB link first. Look where I am now.
EDIT: Weird, Pontus Pilate and I found the game the same way.

I'm a 33 years old geriatric caregiver (correct term?) from germany.
History has been my interest since I was able to read my first words.
Preferring time scale up to Karolingian dynasty, most interesting period/culture: Sumerians.
Would be awesome to see a mod as detailed as EB for this period.:beam:
Got interested in TW series when I first saw Shogun. Played all TW games (except Alexander), but was never really satisfied with them because of inaccuracy, endless fights against clone armies and the stupid AI.
Had to wait to play RTW for nearly 2 years (pc was too old). When I got new pc and Rome (to be honest I bought Rome Gold some months before I was able to afford a new pc :laugh4: ) I knew where to find EB (a friend of mine told me about and I was searching these forums ... eagerly awaiting my new pc).
Played Rome only as long as it took to download EB.
Have played EB for as long as no other mod ever - with one exception: Baldurs Gate Trilogy/Big World Project. (Been a roleplayer for quite 10 or even more years now. Preferring p&p but some pc games are worth wasting time :laugh4: ).
Waiting patiently for EB II now. Until it comes out I play Reconquista ... but most of the time I lead SPQR to mediterranean supremacy.
Oh, yes: not married yet, but soon this will change. ~D
