Canada? They are essentially North Montana. They have no role on the world stage, except as a pretty color on the map.

HEADLINE: US Citzen makes fun of Canada. Canada's trees bark a witty retort.

Indonesia isnt a pit of inspiration either. They pretty much sat on their hands when under netherlands rule doing very littlle for themselves untill the 40's when they threw off their shackles spent the next 20 years getting their affairs in order and fighting coups then doing nothing from the 60's onwards.

I propose that Canada has the special unit: "Canadian Mounties"

They fight especially well in cold climates, on horseback. Of course, this makes them easy targets for hidden machine gun turrets.

Their exports are William Shatner and Celine Dion. As in "Someone took a Shatner on Celine Dion"

Indonesia is a huge Muslim country is it not? And by that, I don't mean there are literally gigantic Muslims running around. Although that would be hilarious.

I don't think I can do this guys, my schedule has suddenly changed dramatically and I'll be lucky if I get to log on once a day. How much of a commitment do you expect this to require, Greyblades?

It is the largest muslim country in the world. As for Portugal, I have no idea what kind of attributes you guys are giving out, so I can't suggest anything without getting examples of other attributes.

Actually, can you explain what makes Portugal different, besides language and culture? What could Portugal offer to another country? What does it's government and people do best? How well funded, trained, and equipped is it's military? Does it's military have a specific tactical focus? How well does it do on the Intelligence Agency scale? Does it have any predisposition with other countries?

Well Portugal should have something to do with its alliance to Britain which is the oldest alliance in the world since 1373 maybe a combat bonus if fighting alongside britain.

I think for all minor western nations I would give the speciality "non threatening" bonus to diplomacy and negotiations in the UN and otherwise as long as they do not increase their military drastically or attack another country. They could still partake in Peacekeeping missions a la NATO or Afganistan without loosing that bonus...

You need to go to a Canadian school
Canada has played a leading role in UN peacekeeping efforts. During the Suez Crisis of 1956, then-future Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson eased tensions by proposing the inception of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force.[57] Canada has since served in 50 peacekeeping missions, including every UN peacekeeping effort until 1989,[58] and has since maintained forces in international missions in Rwanda, the former Yugoslavia, and elsewhere.
That's for "Peace Keeping" they kick in keeping two nations form fighting apart
The city's economy grew when oil prices increased with the Arab Oil Embargo of 1973. The population increased by 272,000 in the eighteen years between 1971 (403,000) and 1989 (675,000) and another 345,000 in the next eighteen years (to 1,020,000 in 2007). During these boom years, skyscrapers were constructed at a pace seen by few cities anywhere. The relatively low-rise downtown quickly became dense with tall buildings,[14] a trend that continues to this day.

Calgary's economy was so closely tied to the oil industry that the city's boom peaked with the average annual price of oil in 1981.[15]
I think this one is for Alberta....but they have the Oil-Fields.....those are like gold even in the Cold war....even the U.S. wants them....Living off it's "Sales" my I could post more....but I think that's one of there biggest....resources

I do go to a Canadian school. Our primary sector far outweighs anything else in our economy. What does peacekeeping have to do with an economy?

It just means we have a military... even though it sucks.... and how could you forget about our Oil-sands??? *sheesh*....Kids these days.....don't even look at the facts

Edit: Even the Province (Manitoba) I live in....it started quite a bit of Agriculture (I can't recall but he helped make a fast-growing harvesting Wheat of some kind)....I had to do a 10 page essay on most of our Country's resources....and to say that we have little to nothing....is a uneducated guess at best...

Greyblades professed his lack of ideas for a number of countries, including Canada.

I tried to help him out by telling him about our heavily resource-based economy.

All I'm doing is stating fact, but I don't really know why you are trying to.... argue?

Really, because this is the 80's first, second, and third world has a very different meaning.
    1st world= USA backing nation/capitalists basically
    2nd world= USSR backing nation/ the commies!!!!
    3rd World= Neutral/undecided

so Canada is a first world nation, that relies on natural resources for its economy.

He's point it out it is like Africa, or at the very least the Middle East. Canada, in the 1980's, did not occupy an important strategic spot due to Alaska, had a small even if highly trained army, an economy dependent on others by it's natural resources but not it's products, and had internal issues that plague it even now, such as a severe shortage of doctors.

Canada took part in peacekeeping affairs, but has been mostly a second player to countries like the US, Brazil, Germany, India and UK, which make up the vast majority of UN Security Forces.

Actually, it was even more different from this. It was based upon standard of living and others things, not allegiance.

1st World was basically Western Europe, United States and other nations of the "West".
2nd World was Russia, Eastern Europe, China and others.
    3rd World was developing countries.
4th World was basket case/dead in the water economies.

4th world was removed as it offended some nations.

I think pretty much everyone would be hard pressed to name one country not economically dependent on others and that does not have internal issues of significant importance.
