Aye, leave it a tie. Send the suspects to us. We have ways of making them talk, of extracting the truth.

We'll lock 'em up in the galley. There lives Bubba, our sodomizing 296 lbs cook. He requested toys for tonight.

Ok...at the moment it's just you, me and AVSM. I'll see if I can get someone else before the deadline.

If you get the missing guy, gimme a heads-up, or we don't need to say who we're working with?

Ok, I don't know if AVSM will be back before 12:00 eastern (deadline). If he is then send your orders in. Or Andres should we have you in the group instead, you are on the fence?

I would like to point out I never allured to being anything but an able seaman!

I think Sasaki is the better target than Andres...

I wonder if anyone at all would be willing to bet thier gold on my guilt... some people seem so convinced thier willing to spend the whole day distracted with it... surely you would be willing to put some of your precious gold up as proof of your convinction... I surely would not be so stupid as to jump out into centre stage as a guilty party...

Your letting killers get away with killing at night and following thier directed lynches during the day... Sasaki has declared big townie groups lame and now is leading the town to his choosing

Yeah, and if Sasaki and Andres are mafia (and they'd most likely be starting mafia, given how early this is) and they want to direct the town to their doom for a whole round or two, and then die in the process, it's a good trade. Slightly reminiscent of a certain Pizzaguy and his exhortations to lynch FactionHeir and CountArach, and then following up on the tip on discovery1.....

Bottom line: No sale. Sasaki and his group aren't all mafia, number one, and if Sasaki is, (:laugh4: :laugh4: :laugh4: suuuuuure he is.... :laugh4: :laugh4: :laugh4:) he's dead anyway.

Im lynched already but the problem is we seem to by lynching woad&fangs because he vouched for me (like people were asked to, though i never asked him to) so if im innocent woad&fangs doesn't look bad as a result, so im saying if your so convinced of my guilt maken a bet on t and we'll find out in a few days time...

Also im sugesting sasaki as a better lynch for organising a vig group and targeting innocents day and night so far, and also Andres as a better lynch for participating in this...

Im requesting the bets now as its pretty much pointless to woad&fangs in a few rounds if he's lynched now to see me proven innocent, so at least some loss or maybe reconsideration is a possibility. This is why I never asked someone to come forward for me in the first place... and now all of a sudden he's the next lynch target...

Lets get them for vouch for each other one at a time and we could spend a few days distracted with this fun!

I wonder if I have ever spent this much time arguing in a thread when I was guilty after I died....

Sasaki Kojiro
10-03-2009, 02:30
Yar, maybe woad&fangs isn't guilty, and maybe you aren't either. But this early in the game, you can't pass up on people who do suspicious things. If you want to save woad though, you'd have to say who your partners are.

Really, if you turn up innocent I'm going to stomp on yer grave. If you actually had a 4 person group and could have saved yourself by dropping a couple names who you had no reason to keep private

The vote is tied. You could have saved yourself yesterday by naming your partners, and you could save him today by doing the same...and so could he. Did you misread your pm as joker or something? Let's here the names if you have them...or one good reason why neither of you will share them...it is not sensitive information in the slightest. The mafia start with three people, and you claimed 4.

Now there's some townie-like behavior... petty revenge. :dizzy2:

Again, I really must ask: Why would Sasaki risk his head just to destroy your reputation for 3 rounds and end your life, at the cost of his own life, if he were mafia? It's not even a valid WIFOM tactic because it's inherently self-destructive; at the very least gets him investigated. Even if he were wrong about you, do we compound that mistake with a second bad lynch? Every player knows that the most common reaction to someone leading a bad lynch on a townie is a reflexive lynch in retribution, or a vigilante kill. Utterly pointless behavior for a scumbag. If he were scum, he's on a road which has a dead end followed by a cliff, and there's no turnin' back. Why don't you RELAX and enjoy the fact that a scumbag gave his life to kill you? Surely that's a fair trade. In the meantime, we MIGHT be discussin' more LIKELY suspects fer bein' Brits or Maven crew.

I am getting that feeling, will be annoyed if that's true. LG's tone reminds me of another game I played where a townie gloated about how wrong we were after he was lynched for posting a botched detective pm forgery

But I don't think we'll lose this game on account of a bad lynch like we did that one, that was quite pathetic, and I hope LG is smarter than that and is actually guilty.

This paragragh answers your point about them being mafia... I never said they were...(this was posted above)

I said they were killers directing deaths of innocents in the day and night (that was assuming they managed to get woad lynched tonight) so i never hid any reasoning...

If vengeance is a pirate trait so is killing people for being annoying.

Killing woad is the best move anyhow, you could still be lying, if not then good riddance.

You claimed a group of 4, thus if 3 people had supported you then you couldn't be a mafia family. If only 1 or 2 did then it was still up in the air.

I can't be revealing nothing as far as im aware (rules). Besides as it is why should they come forward now and why would woad name them.

Edit : Also ATPG im sure I suggested a few times we should concentrate on the mafia instead earlier but now its too late and apparently its down to a killer (probably not mafia) and an innocent... this why i think andres is the better lynch... It's for the benefit of the town and because my messing around put woad in this postion (feel guilty)

I did fun within the role playing, I pretty much explained the thought process behind it earlier on. I figured it would be fairly obvious.

Also im like to point out I never came out with any claims of any roles or results of any kind, what was said in the pm conversation wasn't even dodgy at all and all i did was in a short space of time without any pressure tell a lie and admit it. I did not even gain votes and get lynched or have to defend myself from arguments in the thread... you directed my killing..

Don't get me wrong I don't think im blameless but you well jumped the gun and share a great deal of the guilt along with your vig team who went along with the idea... also the W&F lynch is a continuation of your terrible strategy so far a complete distraction for the town... in other words a bad move...

We don't know exactly what The Stranger did in Kung Fu Mafia (heeheeheeheeheeheeheehee)

...but what LittleGrizzly allegedly did here should warrant nothing like a banning from game (which is what we gleamed from the linked page...) (TUBBY TOAST!)

Acting scummy is a GREAT way to get Mafia not to kill you straight up so you may continue on in the game. You could even go as far (we won't but...) as to say that every pro-town player has an ethical obligation to find some way to get the Mafia not to kill him (and acting scummy is probably the best of these ways as far as behavior is concerned). (NUNU - OH NO!)

On the other hand, vig killing someone who will be shown innocent is a play out of the Bengals book. 1-15, 1-15... (:clown:)

Besides, scummy is such a poorly defined predicate in the first place (cue the people thinking that changing votes, third on the bandwagon, or lurking is scummy... ) that it means so little...

To keep the discussion fair, I don't think Sasaki is really risking his life with this move. I honestly can't see a huge momentum to lynch him several days from now based on that vig kill, even if LG turns out to be innocent. There were plausible reasons for lynching/killing LG, and that will be enough to moot any move on Sasaki from that aspect... especially later in the game after the mafia killing rate has inevitably increased.

In a game this size, with a starting mafioso team of only three, a bold start would be a good strategy. Sasaki is nothing if not a good strategist. I'm not saying I believe Sasaki is scum by any means, but please don't go thinking that his current behavior is evidence of his innocence. This is way too early in the game to be marking anyone off as innocent. Every last person is still a suspect.

KukriKhan

So I guess I gotta search me own self to find the post where Sasaki wrote: "All and sundry, contact me to kill Lil Grizz, the liar, tonight."

What do we have here? 2 guys on the chopping block, er... plank. 1 of 'em pushed by an uncharacteristically chatty Sasaki (12% of this thread's content), with a bandwagon of guys who worked a vig team on n1, at Sasaki's direction.

Versus a populist move to question/attack Andres, an unabashedly bored member of that team, and supporter of a mutiny (that his boss, the only player to actually vote for a mutiny dictated (maybe?)) to kill a player/shipmate who tried to roleplay and joke.

And the defense of a n1 kill is some kinda reference to previous mafia games.

I dunno about the rest of my rum-swillin' shipmates, but that kinda ties it up fer me. The whole n1 vig crew outtah walk the plank, as far as I'm concerned.

If'n ya gotta case, present it. Let the crew decide. Doin' it on yer own undermines crew cohesion and mission accomplishment. An' makes teh crew look at'cha like sum kinda Brit or Mavenette er sumpin'.

Oh, don't get me wrong, if there be one player bold/crazy/strange enough to do this and still be guilty/mafia, it be Sasaki. However. Someone will be double checking on Sasaki, or we are really gullible people. The one thing I might suggest is that Sasaki could be 100% townie in role, but not in spirit. Sort of like a recent Capo-something game I vaguely recall.

One can play as townie until they get recruited by the mafia, or one can play as mafia until they get recruited by the mafia. Sasaki would be wise enough to do the latter, seeing as participation is pretty much mandatory if you get turned.

Any group of humans must, for survival reasons, discard the 'kill' option without adequate basis.

Morality aside: Numbers count. The more hands doing work, the more likely the mission is accomplished. (Down side: more mouths to be fed).

Morality considered: Right is right. Wrong is wrong. We decide which. We (the players of this game) are deciding which is which.

Day 2

As would be expected on a pirate ship where heavy drinking was not just a custom, but a tradition, the discussion over who should walk the plank was very animated and spirited. Several pirates, seeing the potential for even further profit, started offering their services in various fields ranging from votes to pictures, providing a fine mess for the Captain's staff to sort out.

The biggest shocker of the day is when five sailors stepped forward and owned up to the killing of LittleGrizzly last night. Reaction was mixed, and another, more serious discussion emerged, with the vigilante group in question justifying their actions. Eventually suspicion fell on one of their members, Andres, as he defended himself louder than the rest and some of the Captain's officers cited his lack of being on duty for other things the previous night.

However, the opinion of the Presence was also very much against one woad&fangs, who claimed to be in allegiance with the departed Grizzly. woad, in a last-ditch attempt to save himself, offered some of his own stash of gold to whoever voted for Andres. It closed the margin of votes significantly, but was not enough. A late surge of votes for woad doomed him, and soon Captain Crazed Rabbit summoned him and the rest of the sailors to the decks.

"Well lads, I asked ye to speak, and ye have spoken," the Captain said to his crew. "Let the ship's log record that on this here day at this here hour, by the power vested in me by the crew of the good ship Presence, that I do pronounce woad&fangs guilty of treason." He stepped aside for a moment, and then handed woad a pistol.

"All right, woad, I don't know if ye're the man we be lookin' for or not, but rules be the rules and the rules say you've got to go. As per custom, this be a pistol with one shot. Should ye not find rescue or shelter, use it to take yer own life, and may you find more peace in the afterlife then aboard this here vessel. Do ye understand?"

"I do," said woad, taking the pistol.

"All right," said Captain Rabbit. "To the plank with ye, then."

woad&fangs slowly walked to the foot of the plank, and the stepped on it, taking a long and good look at the horizon, hoping to spot any nearby islands. There were none. A boot interrupted his scouring, and an unexpected woad flailed around madly before toppling into the water. The crowd roared with approval. Captain Rabbit knew how to take care of his men.

"Okay laddies, hopefully this be the end o' things, though I doubt it. To bed with ye, then, and let's hope the count of souls stays the same overnight."

But nobody heard him. A few of the more drunken pirates were taking shots at the submerged woad. Loud cheering was rampant. Finally, the water around him gradually turned red. "A direct hit!" somebody yelled, and the crowd roared.

Sighing, Crazed Rabbit made his way back into the cabin for the night.

I find it strange that Andres is the choice of the lynch for participating in a vigilante kill, when Sasaki not only participated, but organized it and encouraged it as well. Why are all of you Andres bandwagoners not voting for Sasaki?

I found that strange too, but didn't mention it. There's no point in wasting 5 rounds lynching vigilante townies because they were actually taking action.

I'm truly surprised that I was actually in real danger of getting lynched for nothing more but killing a suspect.

The game may last a month in real time, but it will probably last around half that time in-game.

And even if it does last a month in-game, let's say that... the sailors start coming across random fruit trees in the water. They've been floating just long enough so that the fruits are perfectly ripe.

Right you are, it was what the British drank so they wouldn't get too wasted, and it helped with scurvy cause they added brown sugar and lime juice.

From the book And a Bottle of Rum: A History of the New World in Ten Cocktails:

Should, or do players want, to know how susceptible they are to conversion to the cause of perfidious Albion?

Obviously, I think, it should not be public knowledge. The rosbifs are listening too. They don't need to know who would be a wasted effort, and who would be a sure thing.
But what of the players themselves?

Night 2

taka was alone and above deck, humming an old shanty to himself. He missed his mother. Dear old mum, always taking care of him and encouraging his peaceful inner nature... he almost thought about staying for a split-second when offered to join the crew of what would become the most bloodthirsty, drunken, and menacing group of pirates in the entire north Atlantic. Poor old mum. He wondered how she was doing now. Maybe after this was over, he would buy his own ship, and sail out to find her, and the two of them could retire together off the loot he had won. On the other hand, he could also blow it entirely on rum and women in the span of two weeks. Decisions, decisions.

He was seized by the shoulders as two hands started dragging him closer to the ship's edge. Snapping out of his nostalgia for his mother and his yearning for rum and women, taka struggled mightily to break free, and he did, eventually scrambling away from his two attackers. Cursing, the two men drew their swords and pursued, chasing taka in circles on the ship for a while. Eventually, however, they started to gain on him. taka, seeing this, dropped on all fours, and the lead pursuer tripped over him, going flying and landing on his other side.

As the first pursuer was struggling to get back on his feet, taka rose, seized his second pursuer by the hair, and brought his skull in contact with the first man's. Both attackers were now out cold, although taka was too dazed to do anything more than go back below deck and drink some more.

atheotes liked to practice his swordplay. During the operations in Charleston, he finally got to live his fantasy and go toe-to-toe with the enemy, holding his own. He was very proud of this and as a result had taken to sharpening his cutlass - sometimes excessively. He hadn't reached the point where his weapon had a name, but many other sailors on board had a wager going on when he would give in and name it. There was also a side wager about what the cutlass would be called, with the lowest odds being "Georgina".

"Hello, atheotes," two men said as they walked up to him. "Care to practice your sword play with us? You never know when you will find yourself at a numerical disadvantage." Both of them drew their own cutlasses as they were saying this, although atheotes was too excited about what they were saying to notice.

"Sure, that sounds great!" he said, drawing his cutlass.

"We thought you would like it," they said. "En garde!"

The three men sparred for a little while, with atheotes' opponents holding back their blows. However, a couple of minutes in, an unseen signal prompted the two men to ramp up their attack significantly. atheotes, taken aback, struggled to compete with the new ferocity that was coming after him. Panting, he tried to tell them to stop.

"Hey, guys, how about going down a notch, eh? I mean, this could really hurt somebody here!"

"That's the idea," said one of them, disarming atheotes and sending him kneeling to the ground in pain. The other lopped off his head.

Deep within the ship's cabins, a man was sleeping, dreaming the sweet dreams of a certain lovely lady. He was roused by a hand pushing his shoulder repeatedly.

"Mmmph... not morning bell until at least 3 hours from now... leeme 'lone..."

"I can't do that," the second man said. "You will wake up and you will listen to me."

"'less you're the captain, not interested," the first man mumbled.

"I have far more authority than the captain," the second man said in a menacing whisper. "I have the power vested in me by the English crown to arrest you, throw you overboard right now, and go after everyone you love and give them an even more horrifying fate."

This finally woke the first man up. He couldn't do this. He may have been a bloodthirsty pirate, but he still had a soft spot for his loved ones.

"What... what do I do?"

"I am offering you a letter of Marque. Accept it, and work with us. Destroy this foolish ship and its crew. Do this and I promise you leniency, plus a well-paying job and the support of the Crown instead of the opposition of it. What say you?"

The first man thought about it for several seconds. "Yes..." he finally said.

"Good," said the second man, already turning around to depart. "Now go back to sleep. I'll be in touch..."

gibsonsg91921 was sitting above deck, drinking some rum quietly. He couldn't sleep, so he figured that a healthy dose of alcohol would do the trick. Of course, it was getting harder and harder to do so. Being a pirate, gibson had achieved a very high tolerance for the substance over the years, so as a result he was rather drunk, but not completely gone to the point where he was about to pass out.

Four men approached him, cutlasses drawn. They did not mince words. Checking to see that his vision was not starting to blur and there were, in fact, four men approaching him, gibson took another swig of his bottle. "What's this all about, eh?" he slurred, with the men only drawing closer to him in response.

Taking one final swig of his rum, gibson finally drew his own cutlass in response and lunged at his attackers. He fought with fantastic bravery, although not particularly much skill, frequently swinging wildly at the air. Eventually, numbers and sobriety took their toll and gibson passed on. He didn't feel a thing.

Eventually the sun finally rose, and Captain Crazed Rabbit walked out of his cabins, shaking his head when he saw all the bodies. In addition to the corpses, there were also the bodies of johnhughthom and YLC, who had apparently gotten in a drunken argument over which wench in Nassau was the best value and took it too far, killing each other. "This be a bad omen if I ever saw one," he muttered to himself, and then proceeded to gather the remaining sailors to roll call.

"Right, laddies," he said, "the situation be growin' ever worse since last night. The attacks have increased, and so has the body count. Looks like ye'll be needin' to do the vote again to determine who walks the plank. Fer yer own sakes, I suggest that ye get this one right."

The English don't strike me as using cutlasses. The cutlass is the piraty weapon of choice. Atheotes was cutlass against cutlass. So I presume that was pirate vs pirate, that is our crew vs maven.
I think the effeminite English prefer to sneak up on somebody from behind and have their filthy way with him. As they tried with Taka.

Actually, I think you're onto something. In both nights, a sword or swords were used by one of the mafia-attacks. Those could be our Brits. The Mavens however seem to be using cutlasses like us.

Did Taka get lucky, or was that an incomplete vig group?

I see no one defending him. I think he got lucky.

What have you been doing these past two nights, Pizza? Busy organising?

The Captain is aware of my activities. No, I haven't done much organizing. Some, to be sure, but after the first night, everyone pretty much was in groups and I've left their command to the Captain himself. As for me, I'm focusing on my task. Yarrr...

Crazed Rabbit
10-04-2009, 21:44
I wouldn't put too much weight on the weapons used yet. This isn't Sasaki's pirate mafia game.

And, if I read the rules right, I believe the attack on atheotes was the Maven crew members. The British special agent can't convert, only the Lieutenant can convert. And only both Lieutenants, together, can kill.

So the attack on Taka was probably just vigilantes, as with gibsong. While that is troublesome, it also means those persons are very likely not to be part of the maven crew. If the people who did participate let me know, I could remove them from the list of possible maven pirates.

I think the effeminite English prefer to sneak up on somebody from behind and have their filthy way with him. As they tried with Taka.

Wait, I'm confused. How could the English kill taka, and convert an able seaman into an agent in the same night?

Also, what other weapons would pirates use? We haven't had anyone killed by muskets...yet.

GH - if there's a solo or two men attack, do the participants reveive nothing, or do they get forty / twenty gold?

There's the single man hit on Grizzly, on Centurion, the four man hit on Gibsons, and possibly two men on Taka.

You guys do realise that protection - succesful or not - makes as much money as attacking, right? 40 / 4 = 30 / 3 = 10.
Whereas protection increases the chance of the crew eventually winning, thus being able to actually end up enjoying the money made.

@Subotan - I was probably wrong. See Rabbit's post above. Most likely the English special officer ('godfather') investigated.* One lieutenant converted. And one lieutenant was free to do to whatever perfidious business it is they do. Possibly, join a vig group.
The English now have four players. That means two can kill, one can investigate, and a fourth can convert. Bad news.

If a limey joins a vig or protection group, how they show up in the PM's?

*Watch out for players who show up as 'investigating' at night. They could be our English don.

He's someone to consider: Sigurd.

I've heard of some investigations of him. Now, this was the second investigation, which meant it had more info than the first investigation. But it didn't say he was protecting anybody, as his first investigation did.

And what do we have this night? A killing by the maven crew members, which didn't happen the first night. Maybe he was busy killing and not investigating. :stare:

That leads me to wonder just what the Quartermaster was up to last night. Perhaps he can explain it to us.

Louis: If it's an unsuccessful two-man kill, the participants receive nothing. If it's a successful two-man kill, that means it was done either by the British or the Maven crew. The Mavens get the 40 gold split up, the British don't care about gold so they don't get anything.

Or would that put too large a crimp in their plans?

First of all, it doesn't take three to recruit for the British. But if I read the rules right, the British can't kill and recruit in the same night (with their initial three players).

I'm not too convinced that the hit on taka was indeed made by an undermanned town vig group. As far as I know, the rules don't say anything about if newly recruited members of the maven or the british might not be able to perform an action for their new masters the same night they were recruited. Also the cause of it's failure might lie with other causes, the write-up at least doesn't say anything about some persons missing. I know the chronology of the write up speaks against it, but maybe that is something to consider.

When it comes to voting I'm not content with the way it is going right now. We already lost two phases with wrong actions, so might I ask for some focus of the town here. Even if it is unpiraty. :sweatdrop:

Anyway, from what I've heard of Sigurd I don't think the suspicion on him is in order, I of course don't know for fact, but it is just a feeling I have. The case against A1 Unit seems to have a bit basis, but I'm not sure either.
All in all IMHO we have some real reasons to be suspicious about the people Diana presented, not say anything might be caused by a lack of time, but has also a scummy feel about it.
So I'll Vote: Khazaar.

If anybody has a better case against someone of those 5 or anybody else, let me know.

FoS: Anyone who voted for Sigurd

Simply placing a couple of votes on someone to pressure them is fine by me, but I think the way this bandwagonned and just exploded is ridiculous. Voting for anyone simply because your Captain (Who, I might add, is not a confirmed pro-town role) told you to is a great way to lynch someone who isn't on your side without annoying anyone who stands a chance of living the round and also a good way to avoid saying something substantive that might be held against you.

Vote: SSNeoperestroika - Third on the Sigurd bandwagon by my count.

So, why is Sigurd being lynched?

If I understand it well:

a) he was investigated N1 and result was that he was doing protection
b) he was investigated again N2 and there was nothing about protection; GH explained that second investigation reveals susceptibility (sp?), so it's normal that it doesn't say something about the night action Sig was performing;
c) CR says: Sigurd probably knew that and used the opportunity to kill on N2, because he's a good player;
d) Sigurd is afk because of RL and can't tell us about his night actions.

Is thát the case which warrants a bandwagon on Sigurd?

Really?

Big FoS Crazed Rabbit.

If you're oh so certain about Sigurd, dear Crazed Rabbit then this is the deal: if Sigurd's autopsy reveals him to be innocent, it's mutiny and you'll walk the plank. I hope you like sharks.

Will a couple of ye vote for Sigurd? I be havin' a bad feeling about him, and I think a little pressure would do the crew good.

I be askin' not for a bandwagon or even a lynch at this time, just some votes to put him near the top of the lynch list.

CR

Ye cannot mutiny against the quartermaster, especially if the Captain be askin' for ye votes.

Sasaki be right, though. There be enough too many votes on Sigurd for now. Let us here him talk.

If I'm hearing it right, the captain be beggin for a mutiny on him.

Methinks its time to stop trying to lynch the handpicked officers who are suspected by the man who chose them, on his orders, and time to start lynching the suspected people

Doesn't it state in the rules, that the Captain can replace either officer at any time, and obtain a new one? If you are so worried Captain then replace Sigurd. Also (check to make sure I'm right) don't they walk the plank if you replace them?

So we have an investigation result on Sigurd? Is that what I am getting here? And what is with the other votes all over the place?

To grumpy and tired to vote now, will be back.

Back to proper conversation of the game?

This entire thing on sigurd seems a bit placed.

The investigation gives nothing, and we've got your feeling?

You arent confirmed town CR. More than likely you are, but even so.

British didnt kill last night, but recruited. I can't imagine it takes 3 to recruit. probably only one, like the writeup wasnt it?

So: 1 to recruit, 1 to probably check for more recruits and...HMMM.

You? Sigurd? (I think seamus is the other position? cant remember)

My money would be on you, if I had to pick. Only because sigurd was doing protections and i dont know who the third is

Mmmm...

Unvote : Louis VI the Fat; Vote : pevergreen

Stronger gut feeling on pever; that post seems "constructed".

Especially these parts:

You know, since Sigurd has been investigated twice, all this rush to lynch him over a mild suspicion is no big deal, the subsequent investigation will yield his full loyalty and affiliations.

The case against pevergreen is better than the one on Sigurd. Sigurd is getting lynched because of a detective result that tells us nothing about his guilt or innocence and the assumption that he used that to kill.

Btw, it wasn't a very good idea to tell Sigurd about the investigations on him already, before getting conclusive evidence (through a 3d investigation).
