Thanks for the help, Omanes. The reinstall worked like a charm. :)

How does one run the mod? I am running the game from the VI exe file (there is no such file for the mod) and the campaign appears to be the original one.

I just installed MTW + VI again (found it under a pile of dust) and since I played RTW with mods, I searched for mods for MTW. I found this one.
I installed it over my clean MTW/VI (in the right folder), but my campain still is the original one. All the files from the mod seem to be there, including the DEADPAGE COORDS ones... I tried to get it working by changing to the late period (earlydeadpage coords - highdeadpage coords - deadpagecoords), but still I can't seem to get the mod working.
Is anyone still around to help me?
btw.. I can't scroll in the campain selector, as in the post above.
Thanks.

Hi mate
The deadpage coords has nothing to do with how the game actually works, they're merely for cosmetic purposes.
Now I think you may have installed it incorrectly - inside your 'Medieval - Total War' folder, do you have another folder of the same name with all my files inside? If so, copy all those files into the original 'Medieval - Total War' folder and it should work.

Eeek, found out what happens when I skim the instructions the first time installing a mod.:wall: Anyways, reinstalled it, and its working fine. First of all, good job, BKB, a wonderful mod! So far, all I've done are a few custom battles to try and get aquainted with the new troops and such. I gotta say one thing though. Don't you think those Champion Berserkers are just a TAD overpowered? I mean, 19 18 10 18? The dude chopped right through practically everything!
Also, any suggestions for a first campaign?

I've recently installed BKB Supermod and I find it an outstanding alternative, I was a fan of VH XL mod, now I'm a fan of both. I wish I could mix them both in one great mod, with both mod's new units, new factions and new provinces...
Maybe I should try...
Little issues:
flags, shields, units shields lack some sharpness, some faction colours are too flashy (ie. the norse's, the valencians), out of that is a great mod.
cheers.

I can't make this mod work correctly. When I start the game, I get a message saying: "Unkown unit name parsing deadpage coords file" When I press "Ok", however, the game starts. In the era selection screen, there are only the original eras available, not any Super mod eras. Please help!

Look inside your BKB Super Mod/Medieval - Total War folder, and see if you have another Medieval - Total War folder inside it. If you do, it didn't overwrite. Just copy and paste that folder into the BKB Super Mod folder, and let it overwrite.

I've solved the problem. By reading previous replies on this thread, I learned that I had to install Viking Invasion (which I though wasn't required), and that the patch was to be intsalled into the "Totalwar\Medieval-Total War" folder.
Thanks for the reply anyway ;)
Wow, so you really do need Viking Invasion to use the mod?
I read a post by BKB that you don't need it, any reason for the change?

Welcome to the Org TomWest!
Wow, so you really do need Viking Invasion to use the mod?Yep, VI, or the Gold Edition/The Battle Pack, is required to play BKB's Super Mod. Quite alot of other mods need the expansion also - primarily due to modding features in VI which did not exist in the origional game.

I tried installing this mod and it simply was a mess. None of faction names and startpos maps worked, and there were numerous 'could not translate' errors.
the installer on atomicgamer may be messed up.
did you installed it in to your MTW folder that is in your MTW directory ?? if not trye to instal it in to your MTW folder in yout MTW directory:2thumbsup:

This is what the BKB root directory should look like if the mod has been installed properly. If it's not like this, it was installed to the wrong folder.

How do I increase the number of sons a king can have? In this game, 6 is the max number of sons a king can have. In some factions there are really no good generals so many of the good generals actually come from the princes, and I want more of these.
One more question: this game works fine but after a long battle it usually crashes..due to lack of memory. However, it sometimes crashes randomly for no reason. Please let me know what other patches I need for this game?
Please put all the patches in order in a list for me.
Hugalu,
Page 1 of this posts shoulkd list all you need,
There is the Version 2.0 mod (231+ MB) and
the Version 2.1 Patch (4.95 MB). That should be all you need.
The mod is also listed under Site Tools/DownloadsandLinks/LinksandFiles

Unfortunately, this is hard-coded and cannot be changed.
heya guys.
i think it corrupted my game :(
I accidently installed the mod to the game itself, so now a command line just comes up, then disappears and the game doesnt work!
Before when i simply drag + dropped it, a "polite notice" popped up.
Any help? Thanks....

If that happens then you need to uninstall everything and reinstall MTW & VI, then the mod again. I usually keep the original MTW folder and just make copies of that folder for the mods I have. Everything works fine. I currently have 4 mods running without problems.
Hmm...
It's strange, I used to play several factions: Teutonic Knights, Crusaders, Bulgarians, and Byzantines....but now I play only either Georgians or Cumans. I find these more interesting. The other factions are much more easier and I get bored. :P

Hi Omanes Alexandrapolites
You said you had M:TW Gold Edition published by SEGA, which seems to prevent the installation from working correctly.
I have the same Gold Edition with file path "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Medieval - Total War - Gold Edition".
Please can you walk me through where to point the installer too - and
what files to delete to avoid conflicts
I've tried several times and I can't get BKB super mod to work
Thanks

Hi Obliqueattack ~
That's quite some time ago, so this is going to be a bit of guesswork combined with low quality rusty memories. Sorry if it doesn't work ~:(
I reccomend, just incase, that you re-install M:TW a
If I remember rightly, to start with you will need to open up the 2.0 installer.
Follow the on-screen instructions till you get to point where it requests details of where you want to install it to. Give it the file path "[hard drive letter]:\Program Files". Typically, this will be "C:\Program Files".
Once the mod has finished installing itself. Navigate to where you "installed" it to ("[hard drive letter]:\Program Files" typically "C:\Program Files").
Find a folder labelled "Medieval - Total War" and rename it "Medieval - Total War - Gold Edition".
After that, locate a folder named "The Creative Assembly". Drag and drop the "Medieval - Total War - Gold Edition" folder into it. If things are going as they should, and my memory hasn't let you down, the computer will request permission to overwrite files. Simply select "Yes to all".
Once the process is complete, you should, if everything went to plan, have a working version of BKB's Supermod v2.0 installed over your copy of M:TW.
After you have gone through that, you can download and install the v2.1 patch (http://www.mizus.com/files/files/MTW/Stats/BKB%20Super%20Mod%20Version%202.1%20Patch6-07.exe). This is not required, but is recommended to fix gameplay bugs and similar issues. This process, however, is much more simple.
Firstly, lauch the installer and, as before, follow the instructions till it requests details of where to install the mod.
Type in "[hard drive letter]\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Medieval - Total War - Gold Edition". Typically this will be "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Medieval - Total War - Gold Edition".
Select to continue, and the installation should proceed.
Once the process is complete, patch 2.1 should have installed normally over v2.0.
Hope this is useful (and hope I haven't let you down) ~:)

hey guys i'm having a problem dowloading the mod.
I can download it from the link to atomic gamer, but my problem is that after the thing is downloaded i cannot open it. It says that it is an EFW file, and i have no clue what that is. I remember the old link that used to be here did not have that. Any ideas on how to procede?
Thanks

A quick Google search for the .ewf file format shows that it's a compressed .exe or .zip file type. I don't quite understand why the mod would be in ".ewf" format, but according to the web site (http://www.fileinfo.net/extension/efw) it may be attributed to your anti-virus software.
To fix it, simply right click on the file, and change the extention at the end from ".ewf" to ".exe". Once you've done that, you should be able to open it.
Good luck ~:)

Hi Omanes Alexandrapolites
I did what you said and it works!!!!
Thanks very much
I'm sure I read somewhere that only a few mods work with gold edition.
As a gold edition owner, what's your experience on that?
So far I've got ALL the following working:
Pike and Musket 1.5
Ancient 2.53 and Ancient 3
Napoleonic
BKB
XL
MEDMOD
I'm struggling with
Samurai Warlords (not a win32 application)
and
Age of warlords (installer won't execute)

All mods built for MTW-VI + the 2.01 patch should work with MTW Gold. MTW Gold installs, as you would know, all three of those things (MTW, VI, Patch), so every mod should work with that. Samurai Warlords works perfectly fine for me I've been playing it since BETA 5. It's now up to BETA 8 and that works well too, it's quite stable. Age of Warlords I haven't tried, but from what you've said, being "installer won't execute" it is most likely a faulty installer, not MTW Gold's fault. I also believe this is the problem with Samurai Warlords "not a win32 application".
Try downloading and installing them again, if at all possible, it seems to be that it is not MTW Gold that is at fault, rather the .exe installer files. I assure you that I have MTW - Gold as well and that Sam Warlords works as it should do on my PC. :wink2:
Try, try, try again... until you go over your download limit. ~:joker:
Edit: I really hope you get Samurai Warlords up and running, as it is an incredible mod, if you have never played STW or can't get hold of it, it is the next best thing.

well i tried to change the file type and it is not as easy as i thought. For some reason it is more complicated than just changing an efw file to an exe with a just a right click. For some reason it will not let me change the extension. I tried to re-download the file and then change it, and still had no luck. any ideas how to manually get in and change the file type a different way?
Try clicking on start, -> control panel, -> folder options
Click on the "View" tab at the top of the window, and scroll down to "Hide extensions for known file types" or something along those lines. Uncheck this box, so there is no tick there and the box is empty. In case you don't know what I'm talking about, it should look like this:
https://img403.imageshack.us/img403/9895/folderoptionsvi8.th.jpg
Click to apply the settings, and now go back to the efw file. You should be able to see the extension being "<file name>.efw". Now try and change that extension (the ".efw" part) to ".exe". If that doesn't work... well.

The link by Martok works fine for me.
Tell me, are you running any download managers? Try disabling them (if any) as occasionally they'll get a bit confused.
Also, what internet browser are you using, I'm using Firefox 2 and as I've said, works a treat.
If that doesn't help I might be able to upload it to rapidshare or something and set up some sort of a mirror download, but try those steps first (disable managers - use different browser).
All the new factions do not show up and in fact the only thing that has changed since before I installed it is the loading screen. I went on to program files and all the new factions seem to exist but when I go on the game they are not there. What should I do? :help:

Really quick question... I see that to install and play BKB, it overwrites the original M:TW. Is there a way to side-step the overwrite? I'd like to keep the old, you know, just in case.
And is it compatible with other mods, such as XL? It doesn't overwrite those, does it?
Most MTW mods will overwrite the original files. To combat this you can do one of two things, set up another install of MTW (so you have two MTW's) or use a mod enabler, I use the JoneSoft Generic Mod Enabler. What does it do? It lets you switch from one mod to another whilst never actually overwriting the original files. It can be tricky to use and slow when you're switching large mods (like BKB's and XL) but for small mods it works a treat.
I recommend setting up a second install of MTW for BKB's, mainly because the mod enabler is very slow, and you can accidentally overwrite your original MTW when you're install a mod. Also soon your saved games get cluttered up (for example I have a spanish save from 1700's as well as a spanish save from 1250's). So I highly recommend a second install unless you don't have much space on your hard-drive.
To set up a second install simply open up your folder where MTW and copy/paste it. Only thing is, if you've got XL installed on it you'll need to re-install MTW from the disc as well as VI and the patch (unless you happen to have gold edition).
If you still want to use the mod enabler, I recommend it for small mods, click here (http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/products.html) and download the first product on the left. It's got instructions on how to use it there I think.. but you can take it from there, if you can't set up the mod enabler properly just ask.
Edit: Or you can use this link here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?p=1009484).
Hope that helps. :cool4:

What I do is copy and paste back-ups of MTW: Gold once installed. I have the main game folder (which I will call the vanilla folder), with the .exe in and everything - then I have a special backup folder, with everything but the .exe copied to. You can create mod folders, and install a mod over your vanilla installation. When you want to install a new mod, just cut and paste all those files from your vanilla folder that you have already installed a mod over into it's own mod folder (leave the .exe alone). Now, copy and paste the back-up vanilla files you made earlier into the vanilla folder - and you have an unmodded game you can install a new mod over. Rinse and repeat, never having to actually install another instance of MTW: VI. You keep your vanilla files backed-up all the time, and only install mods over copies of them.

I'm not sure ifthis has been answered before, but I didn't want to go looking through 90+ pages of posts. I just downloaded the mod and the patch for it. Installed the mod, then the patch, then changed the portraits and stuff. Then, I try to play the game. It loads up everything, I pick the time, and try to play. However, all I get is a brief glance at the campaign map before a CTD occurs. It happens no matter what time period or faction I choose. Custom battles run fine, though, and I must say I'm really enjoying all the new units.

Hi! I downloaded the mod, got it running, downloaded the patch, etc. I immediately tried custom battle and no matter who I picked, the flags(as in faction standards) were just black boxes. I changed the battle resoultion and it didnt work...Just hoping someone could help me with that cuz im confused....

This also happens to me in campaign battle mode too...
I'm having problems. I downloaded the mod and installed it in my MTW folder (under Creative Assembly in Program files), and it doesn't work! I open the game, and I get the original! What is happening? Is there a bug? Did I download it or save improperly? Might my computer be too old? The mod sounds awesome but I haven't managed to get it to work. :embarassed:
Ok, so now when I select a time period, Super mod is available. But no map shows up to the right, and if I try to select it MTW crashes. What've I done?
Try installing it again. Install it over the same folder you did last time, maybe something interrupted your computer when it was going.
If that doesn't work, maybe try a new, fresh version of MTW (reinstall MTW), then try again with the Super Mod. Honestly, if that doesn't work, it sounds like you might have to download BKB Super Mod again (Which is really nasty if not impossible if you're on 56k dialup).
But try those two first: #1 install Super Mod again. Then #2 reinstall MTW then install Super Mod.
I recommend to keep trying at it as the Super Mod is one of the best mods around.
Ok, thanks. Yeah, my computer is really old and slow. I think I'll try it on my newer laptop.

Hi mtwfan ~
This is a bug with the installers file path - you just need to do a little bit of manual overwriting yourself to get it to work.
Find a folder labeled "Medieval - Total War" and rename it "Medieval - Total War - Gold Edition".
After that, locate a folder named "The Creative Assembly". Drag and drop the "Medieval - Total War - Gold Edition" folder into it. If things are going as they should the computer will request permission to overwrite files. Simply select "Yes to all".
Once the process is complete, you should, if everything went to plan, have a working version of BKB's Supermod v2.0 installed over your copy of M:TW.

It works! Oh, it is awesome! Really cool! I really like Georgia. Thinking about Wallachia or the Ilkhanids next. Thanks for helping me out. I only wish there was a functioning glorious achievements mode, but oh well.
Hmm, there seem to be some problems. I can't seem to upgrade my castles (enlarge them, or make them higher level), so that is annoying. Did I screw something up with the download? Or is that a common bug fixed by the 2.1 patch? Also, I was playing as the Hungarians and suddenly my emissary disappeared. He was gone. No joke. Otherwise, love the mod.

:smash: Hi!!
Has anybody noticed how overpowered and underpriced Byzantine Skutatos are?
I've tested them many times in custom battle mode. They may be spears, but these 100 man Byzantine badasses nearly always beat Chivalric FootKnights and can often beat Varangian Guard.
Try it and see!!!!!!!
Byzantine Spearmen cost 275 and Chivalric FootKnights cost 550- that's twice the price and 60 men less!! You don't need any other foot when you've got Byzantine Skutatos - they naturally beat cavalry plus the best foot soldiers your enemy can field!! Why buy anything else??
So why is this?
I'm no modding expert, but the main difference between Byzantine Spearmen and other good spear (Chivalric sergeants or Saracen inantry or Italian infantry for example) is Byzantine Spearmen get melee 2 (the aforementioned spear get melee -1 or 0). It looks to me like raising melee to 2 makes 100 man spear units deadly. (Maybe that why in vanilla MTW no spear unit had melee above 0; except for dismounted nobles and Royal Bodyguard - but these 2 units are much smaller in size 40 and 20 men respectively and cost 400 and 300 respectively.
Also I believe, because they are spear, they get melee bonuses from ranks of men behind; something swords and axe don't get.
Hospitaller spearmen (melee 2 )do a similar job for 300.
When I pit Chivalric FootKnights against Chivalric sergeants or Order footsoldiers (melee -1 or 0), the
Chivalric FootKnights win every time.

When I start a "super campaign" (be it early, high or late), the game crashes after the loading bar has filled up.
Here's how I did:
1. Installed MTW
2. Installed Viking Invasion
3. Installed BKB SuperMod 2.0
4. Installed the BKB SuperMod 2.1 patch
I also made that "DEADPAGE" thingy with the textfiles in the Textures\Men folder.
Hi Brynjolfr,
Is it possible you got a folder :Medieval totalwar in you Total war directory? if so you might have instal this wrong.
I got the samme problem a few years ago, just copy that folder in your main directory. Its really worth playing :2thumbsup:
I hope BKB commes on the forum from time till time

I was going to try out BKB Supermod, but the link for the patch 2.1 was dead.
The link for both Mod and patch is:
http://www.atomicgamer.com/search.php?searchProcess=1&search=bkb&searchType=Any+Type
(Don't know what "patch old" is)
Maybe someone can change this for the download page.
Very nice mod. Like all the new buildings/units etc.

Hmm, there seem to be some problems. I can't seem to upgrade my castles (enlarge them, or make them higher level), so that is annoying. Did I screw something up with the download?
If my memory (it's been a while) is correct, in the BKB mod you have to build/upgrade the STONEMASON building to the next level before you can ungrade your castle in that province. So nothing is wrong, you just overlooked one of the little "extras" in the mod.
Awesome mod, Super Late is probably the best campaign from all medieval mods.
I only had problems with some battles which couldn't load(eg. in Cordoba).
I'll send next post now, because there is some stupid restriction that I can't post links unless I got at least 1 post...
Few screens from my finished Venetian campaign, quite easy, now trying Bohemia, hard, but it's funny to have Orebites before even Jan Hus birth :P But I think, I'll try Age of Warlords first.
Ultimate killing machines(it's from almost campaign's end, as you can see I modded few units to be recruitable for me, I want to try them at last - but english mma and turkish jajas are from bribery :P):

Welcome to the Ord, huth, and thank you for the post!
BKB doesn't receive much publicity nowadays, and your post has caused me to consider experimenting with it for the first time myself (I have never downloaded it!).
I only had problems with some battles which couldn't load(eg. in Cordoba).
Is it a CTD or battle just doesn't finish loading. Try to post error info you get. If you don't see it: alt-tab and alt-tab again. It should display error window on top of the screen (at least it works that way on win XP). From which province Cordoba was attacked?
I have BKB mod installed so if you send me an appropriate saved game I'll check it myself. I can try to fix it but I need more information.
Crashes didn't happen only in Cordoba but in other provinces also and there is like these provinces are permanently bugged, no way to battle there. I don't remember all of them, but I know I had problems with Cordoba, Aragon and Epirus.
I check random save (http://www.speedyshare.com/files/26560134/The_Venetians_1404.cpg) and in that one I'm attacking Aragon: one army from Gascony, another from Toulouse and also bribed army in Aragon. After 1/3 of loading bar game crashes with message 'medieval_tw.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close'. I try to attack with army only from Toulouse or Gascony, only with bribed army - always is an error.
In game folder in crash.txt is this:
medieval_tw.exe caused an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION in module medieval_tw.exe at 001B:00408E29
EAX=0013ABC9 EBX=00000038 ECX=00000002 EDX=00000002 ESI=0000001B

I play on XP Pro SP3, GF 6600GT(especially changed from newer gf :P), Athlon 64 1.8GHz 3000+, in windowed mode(added parameter in shorcut's properities), nvidia drivers 260.99(maybe older drivers would be better...?), what else... BKB 2.1, Med: VI 2.01 separately installed from some old cd copies :P - I bought Polish release of Gold Edition, but font and transaltion is... eh... not good :P)
Edit: Lol, now I've noticed you're from Poland, too :P PM me in polish if you don't want to write here in english :)
Nice to see someone from Poland. I'll write here in English for now. Maybe others will find it interesting and helpful.
I've checked your save. Hmm... "checked" it's not the best word cause the game freezes a second after I hit "end turn" (system stops to respond too).
What I've found: There are many totally empty crusade stacks all around the map. Right-clicking of one of them give you an error message which you can skip by hitting enter but it can give a CTD too. The game freezes during Turkish turn and I've found that Turks have 2 Ilkhanate's empty crusades in their provinces. Additional 3 empty Russian crusades waits in Georgia. Resolving a battle with such a crusade can surely cause CTD.
Solution: I doubt there is any solution for your ongoing campaign. Quick solution for any new campaign will be probably disabling the crusades for all factions in unit_prod file. If you don't know how to do it I can make it for you.
I'll try to fix the crusade issue but I can't promise you this. btw It reminds me a somewhat similar problem in early Pike & Musket mod version (revolting armies full of spies and emissaries :laugh4:).
What? Crusades? There aren't any crusade on the map :P This is how eg. Georgia looks in my game on that savegame:
https://img88.imageshack.us/img88/4431/georgiab.jpg
ok. Forget the previous post. First, we need to have the same mod version. Do you have 2.1 version? I don't want to make a mess in this thread so answer me by pm.

Does this mod correct Gendarmes? By that I mean make them the best heavy cavalry in the game, instead of a replacement or light cavalry without a lance?
Check the Wiki page
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gendarme_%28historical%29
I just noticed that the faction names are garbled.
EDIT:
It seems to crash randomly when I am selecting units in custom battles.
EDIT:2
Okay I found the problem. I hadn't installed it properly.
The Khazar Kaganate cannot build synagogues. Their religion should be Jewish at this point. It shows them as Muslim
I have edited the initial post with links to the AtomicGamer download urls, for both the v2.0 exe and the 2.1 patch. If I screwed up, let me know.
Imperiumiv

The Khazars need to be changed from Muslim to Jewish.
EDIT:
Using Dragon Editor, I can't find any way to do this. I also do not see any Synagogue buildings. I want to make a fix and post the fix but I don't know how to do it.
To the best of my knowledge, factions are confined to Catholic, Orthodox, Muslim, or Pagan cultures. Heretics and Jews only appear as percentages of population faiths.
Imperiumiv
08-08-2011, 00:39
Roger. I wasn't aware of this. If I wanted to however, how could i change a faction's religion and the starting religion percentage for those provinces? Is it because the MTW engine cannot handle more than 3 religions for factions?
In the startpos file, each faction should have both a SetCulture and SetReligion line. The options for culture are: CATHOLIC_CULTURE, MUSLIM_CULTURE, ORTHODOX_CULTURE, and PAGAN_CULTURE, the options for religion are: REL_CATHOLIC, REL_ISLAMIC, REL_ORTHODOX, REL_PAGAN. Some things are controlled through culture, others through religions, not sure what would happen if a faction has a mismatch. Try REL_JEWISH for grins, but I don't think it works.
Setting religious percentages for provinces is something I haven't figured out yet. The province SetAttributes line has some effect, but I'm not sure how the small heretic/Jewish populations get set at the start.

Hi Everyone,
i recently encountered an CTD while playing the BKB Super MOD with 2.1 Patch.
I played HRE, took France and Venice then the problems started.
The Egypts sent their priests, i killed them an sent bishops in these Provinces.
A while later i tried to look if i had 100% catolizism again ( right mouse on the province) an the game crashed.
I have this problem in nearly every game at some point or another.
Here is an Link to an savegame in which this problem occurs. In Saxony and Normandy this occurs particularly...

Hi guys,
So I recently started playing MTW:VI again and started of with two great mods, XL and BKB. Ive finished XL but am working my way through BKB right now and am definitely having a much harder time with the AI in this mod. That being said, thats amazing! I am really happy to find a mod where the AI not only backstabs but also puts up a decent fight with formation and the units it has at hand.
I have come across two things that I would like to fix however I do not know how to mod.
Bugs:
1. Master Stone Mason costs 100 instead of 1000 (I assume)
2. Playing as the Welsh, whenever I attack Ireland the map doesnt load, it comes up black in the pre-battle screen and when the fight takes place I fight on a generic, tree-less field. This also happens when Wales gets attacked, I had to defend on the same map.
How can I fix these two problems?
Cheers.

I don't have access to the files at the moment, but these should be relatively easy to fix. Which era did you start your campaign in?
Edit-> Got the BKB installed here at home.
The first fix is pretty easy, look in the top level of the directory where you installed the BKB mod. There should be 3 files, EARLY_MODDED_CRUSADER_BUILD_PROD13.TXT, HIGH_MODDED_CRUSADER_BUILD_PROD13.TXT, and LATE_MODDED_CRUSADER_BUILD_PROD13.TXT. You can open these up in Notepad, look for the line that starts with this:
3 STONEMASON "StoneMason, StoneMasons Workshop, StoneMasons Guild, Master StoneMason" "NON_PRODUCER, CATHEDRAL_INCOME" "250, 400, 600, 100" "1, 2, 3, 4"
To fix the cost, you want to change the "250, 400, 600, 100" to "250, 400, 600, 1000", these are the costs of the buildings/upgrades in the stone mason line. You will need to fix this in all 3 files, and as always back up the files before editing. I believe fixing this will fix the problem in your current game.
On the second, I'm not so sure. It might be a problem in the startpos file, I would need to know which era you started with. I'm not sure this is fixable in a current game.

Thank you for the prompt reply and the welcome.
I started the campaign on Super Early as the Welsh. Also its ok if I have to restart, its really annoying not fighting on the "real" field because it takes away from the feel of the game and the strategic advantage that I or the AI may gain.
Cheers for the feedback!
On your second question, I think I know the problem. If you look in the startpos files (located in BKB top level dir\Medieval - Total War\campmap\startpos, file names Super Early.txt, Super High.txt, Super Late.txt), there are lines that start with "SetBorderInfo::".
SetBorderInfo:: ID_WALES ID_IRELAND 5120 5664 0 LUSH AT_WESTERN_EUROPEAN COAST FLT2HLL NO_RIVER
...
SetBorderInfo:: ID_IRELAND ID_WALES 6592 6128 0 LUSH AT_WESTERN_EUROPEAN COAST FLT2HLL NO_RIVER
This tells the game how to handle the border in the campaign. For the provinces ID_IRELAND and ID_WALES, it looks like the border is described as coastal, flat to hilly, no river. Looking in Medieval - Total War\Battle\Maps, it doesn't look like there are any maps that start with "flattohillscoastal", so I assume the game is loading the default. There are a couple of other borders set like this, they will probably have the same problem.
I don't know if BKB had a mappack that had battlefields to match these types. Without any new maps, I would say change the the "FLT2HLL" to either "FLAT" or "HILLY", there are maps for these settings in the vanilla game.

Hi Drone,
Thank you for the information, it worked like a charm!
Good to hear it. It seems strange that a bug like that would still exist in a popular mod, I would have assumed someone would have reported it and BKB would have fixed it. Maybe there is a mappack or another patch out there that fixes this problem, I'll search around some.

I have a question regarding BKB mod. I am not sure if this is the right area in forum.
Can you play BKB on system with windows 7 operating system. I have tried several times to load with no success. The game crashes when I select a faction.
All help is much appreciated. I have loaded and played XL and redux successfully.
Zarakas
If you can run other mods with your setup, I don't see why we couldn't get BKB running for you.
I would suggest you try the button fix first. Download the fix file specified in this post (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?103656-NEW-Fix-for-CTD-when-starting-campaign-%28Nvidia-High-End-Cards%29), and put the two .bif files into the "Medieval - Total War\campmap\buttons" directory of your BKB installation. Hopefully this does the trick!
Thanks Drone
It all works fine now.
Much Appreciated

Just installed the mod into my Total War (not Medieval-Total War) folder, but when I click on the desktop icon I get an error message reading:

Are you installing the mod over a fresh MTW install? And do you have the Viking Invasion expansion (or MTW Gold)?

Just thought I would post something I discovered about BKB's mod. There has been for me a continuing problem with CTDs (crashes) on Super High focused on the Balkans. I have been unable to discover what the problem was until recently.
Battles would crash in Morea, Thessaly, Serbia, and Eprirus. What I discovered is that battles involving Byzantine Infantry in non-byzantine service will automatically crash. If they are in rebel service they will also cause a crash.
I moved a bribed rebel Byzantine Infantry unit from Epirus to Venice and when a battle took place it also crashed. It wasn't the Balkans, but rather the unit. I have played the Byzantines in Super High and experienced no crashes with Byzantine Infantry units of my own except in the Balkans region. I presume these would involve rebel, or bribed Byzantine Infantry in other service.
I changed the Byzantine Infantry to ALL_FACTIONS under the mercenary heading and removed the 'Orthodox' culture requirement but that didn't prevent any crashes.
I changed all the Byzantine Infantry to Byzantine Spearmen (Skutatos) and have so far experienced no crashes when previously it was guaranteed.
I don't know if a bribed Byzantine Infantry unit from the Byzantine faction will also cause a crash. None of these problems exist in Super Early so it is presumably something about Super High that causes this.
Just wanted to post this in case it can help anyone.

If I'm understanding you correctly, and the case is that M:TW is installed in the Total War folder with the main game's exe, then the mod should go there too. easiest fix is to get the mod's files out of the subfolder and have them overwrite the main folder's files. :)
A few years too late, but hopefully it will help if another person has a similar problem. :P

Hi Drone, none of the atomic gamer links seems to work for me. The website opens and there are three options there but none of them work. Can you please tell me if I can download from somewhere else? Also, how complete is the mod? Eg Does it have proper unit icons and information parchament for new units? I know it sounds stupid but I care about this stuff for immersion. If i see a poorly made copy paste image in my parchments I get upset :)
Edit: So i managed to make one of the links work and the mod is now downloading however the link for the 2.1 patch doesnt work at all, any help on that would be appreciated.
Also, I am trying to install it to steam version of MTW so it just has Medieval Total War 1 folder, shall I install into this?

I think the AG link is good (for another week or so), but if you can't get it from there, try the Org's Mizus server backup (https://forums.totalwar.org/mizu/mizus/files/files/MTW/Stats/BKB%20Super%20Mod%20Version%202.1%20Patch.exe).

I believe you just install it over your Steam version (...\Steam\steamapps\common\Total War Medieval 1 Gold), that's what everyone says, but I haven't tried it personally.

I can add two links:

If necro'ing threads is not allowed here, I apologise, but I don't know how to launch BKB on my MTW (gold). Is there a specific place to install it, do I have to replace the files with the ones from the mod?
Well if it's anything like when I installed the XL Mod to my Steam version of MTW Gold (and I suspect it has to be similar), then the install path might be something like this:
(My) Computer --> Local Disk --> Program Files --> Steam --> SteamApps --> common --> Total War Medieval 1 Gold

It's been a good +15 years since i last played Medieval+BKB Super mod, and glad to have finally got it all working on a modern system!
Yes this is in 2020 (on a Ryzen 5 under Windows 7!) and i still rate this as the 'best' version of a Total War game you can play, so my thanks to BKB for making such a great mod possible :)
Having said that i still find the install instructions a little hard to follow. In the end i just make sure that BKB installs in the main directory where the main game (and .exe are located) as this is 'normal' for pretty much any game mods in general, they are going to over-write or sit alongside the original game files (how else is the game exe going to know where to look for them).
So far i'm enjoying a game trying to unite the British Isles under Cymru (welsh in anglo-saxon tongue) rule :) That is never an easy task!
Install Tips:
1. if installing from DVD's (as i did) make sure to install the M:TW 1.1patch before the Viking Invasion expansion (to avoid the 'FN_Egyptian not found' type errors)
2. use the 'ddraw.dll' fix by Sepheus to get higher resolution options (and avoid CTD's due to all that) - place it in the main game directory.
3. (possible fix) when setting compatibility options, turn of all visual effects (tick those boxes) to force a 16bit desktop colour switch (as M:TW came out during that period before 32 bit colour was the norm iirc?).

On your second question, I think I know the problem. If you look in the startpos files (located in BKB top level dir\Medieval - Total War\campmap\startpos, file names Super Early.txt, Super High.txt, Super Late.txt), there are lines that start with "SetBorderInfo::".
SetBorderInfo:: ID_WALES ID_IRELAND 5120 5664 0 LUSH AT_WESTERN_EUROPEAN COAST FLT2HLL NO_RIVER
...
SetBorderInfo:: ID_IRELAND ID_WALES 6592 6128 0 LUSH AT_WESTERN_EUROPEAN COAST FLT2HLL NO_RIVER
I know this was a LONGTIME ago now! But the price error for the stone mason (100 instead of 1000) is still present in the BKB Super Mod, so i figure this error is also still an issue.
Anyway looking through the MTW's default files the problem might be that in the Super Mod text line given above, it is using a direct connection between Ireland and Wales (therefore a LAND connection!) where it should be ID_IRISH_SEA to ID_WALES and vice versa? And then a single geographic description in place of FLT2HLL, as is the norm for all sea to land connections? So something like this:
SetBorderInfo:: ID_IRISH_SEA ID_IRELAND 4640 6512 0 LUSH AT_WESTERN_EUROPEAN COAST HILLY NO_RIVER
...
SetBorderInfo:: ID_IRISH_SEA ID_WALES 5792 6984 0 LUSH AT_WESTERN_EUROPEAN COAST HILLY NO_RIVER
Those are lines taken directly from the games default fies for 'EARLY'. There is no Ireland to Wales land connection, which might be why the game freaks out here in the mod when playing those movements? Or i could have got it all wrong? Difficult to say as i have not tested it yet! :)

The 'land connections' to Ireland are deliberately changed, as you otherwise get the 'rebellion island' effect if the province is cut off. I think you'll find other islands also have landlinks added in this mod (and yeah, a couple of years since I last played this one...)
If you're getting the default map (usually with a black preview screen before battle) then that means the map type is missing. As you guessed, the obvious option is to change the map type in the border info section. A better option is to make yourself some extra maps :2thumbsup:
You should find in this mod entries for: SetBorderInfo:: ID_IRELAND ID_WALES ...... & vice versa. These will determine the land crossing map. You'll still need the SetBorderInfo:: ID_IRISH_SEA ID_IRELAND type entries for naval invasions from further afield.
Good luck with it

Thanks for that info macsen rufus, i'll have a look for some mappacks that include the required type, or (easier no doubt!) change the "FLT2HLL" entry to "HILLY" for Wales and "FLAT" for Ireland.
Your Ancient: TW mod is one i want to get around to trying, i don't remember it from when i last was playing, so thanks for popping in here for the help and reminder to check your mod out :)
Hi,
i installed BKB super mod and i get this error when entering in battle:
Hard-sprites failed to load.
error: (0) (00000000)
Can anyone help me? I believe this is related to some missing unit animation.
Thank you

What type of MTW is it? Steam or non-Steam?

Thing is, MTW mods are not suited for MTW Steam version unfortunately. They're different (MTW standard) compared to MTW Steam and as such you wlll get errors.
Try and do a fresh reinstall and see how that works.

Most mods work with Steam, but as Edyz says, there can be some errors. The hard sprites failing to load sounds more like missing graphics. I might be able to help pin it down if you say what units were in the battle and what factions (I'm playing a BKB campaign now, so might get some ideas....)

Just installed the mod. I'm using Steam. Installed to my Steam Library-> Steamapps-> Commom -> Total War Medieval 1 Gold folder, which is where my .exe resides. I open the game, I can see the 3 Super periods as well as the 3 originals. But if I click on one of the mod periods, there is no map and it either just crashes back to the Steam Launch screen or goes to the factions screen with a bunch of jumbled code for each faction then crashes after a few seconds. I installed the mod then patch over a Clean Install of MTW 1. Any suggestions fellas? I have tried to scour this forum for ideas, but no luck....

This is just a guess, but R:TW Steam-edition had problems with mods if these involved long file path lengths. That means: the combined filename of the both the file itself, and the folders it was in, was too much for the game to handle (say: C:\Program files\Applications\Games\SteamLibrary\SteamApps\Common\Rome total war\modXL\data\graphics\textures\unit_4321_Roman_Polybian_Triarii_plus_greaves_and_shortswords.jif).
You could be resolved this by uninstalling the game and reinstalling via Steam, but not putting it in the default folder. Instead, use a shorter folder name (C:\RTW).
Let me know if this works.
