Yes I know
It is in fact one of the first questions in the Map request thread. A guy there answered yes but didn't say how ... have to dig it out. We will see. I know it can be done for castles … for normal mode … I don’t know.

At the moment I am working on bringing v.1.0 in to v.1.2 status with the units of DJ ... and some reuse of them for other units until he makes the rest of the list. At the moment I will try to get a 8 shaped shield in 3D to bring it to a new standard.

BTW.
flip take your time to learn the 3D modelling it is excellent and since you are quite good at normal graphics then you will excel trust me http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Seems that its random, but don´t hope so.

My problem with the northern tribes is I have no idea what there names were ... I only have seen one Skythan name "Astaharshes" or something.

There might be a solution to this ... in northern Greece there is a minority called Pomaks ... apparently they are what is left of the ancient Thracians ... the problem is that they have long been Muslim and most probably the use Arabic names http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif ... due to other misconceptions they are count as Turkish minority ... which males thinks even worse to finding anything about there past. Illyrians, Peoneans and Thracians most probably have common heritage and they were closely related ... I have to find also Lydian, Phrygian and Persian names ... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

Yes, but you didn´t understood me right:


We have 4 campaignmaps so far:
Your map, flips brighter map, his sepia style map and my map (look at the screenshot).


My suggestion is: Put all this campaignmaps in the new version of the mod, so that we have a wide variarity of campaignmaps to choose from.
Why only having one campaignmap to choose before installing?
I bet that some want the sepia style map, but others your campaignmap, or maybe the brighter map, maybe mine.


Why don´t let the player decide, which he wants to use when he installs the mod (many users, many sences of tastes of campaignmaps)?

Hi flip,

Good job ... but you have it way to big ... the poor guy can't turn his head. The Corinthian Helmet goes from the back of the head till just a bit lower than the chin so it leave the neck unprotected (the point of choice for the hoplites). I think you should talk to DJ ASAP ... no reason to reinvent the wheel here.

Very good, now that I see that you have the right attitude, I'll tell you a secret: Keep it simple

Our ME:TW team has been strenghtened by another modeller and he's also making very detailed models. But you will lose alot of details when rendering. A eye is nothing more than a pixel. Komninos talked about the size of the helmet, well forget that, you won't be able to see the difference ingame. When making models for MTW keep it simple and keep checking the result by rendering it in the required format. You're not making models for full screen renderings, no, they're meant to represent tiny little soldiers in MTW. Here's my Hoplite, compare its simplicity with your overcomplex model:

Next make sure that you follow this tutorial (http://www.newtek.com/products/lightwave/tutorials/modeling/surf-punk/index.html). You don't have to make the exact same model, but this tutorial almost contains everything that I am using. You should know how the UV-mapping proces works. Also download UV-imaginator which is a plug-in for LightWave (get the right version) to make new UV maps. This makes sense if you read the tutorial.

I didn't help you immediately since I first wanted you to explore LightWave before I talked about stuff that you wouldn't understand. I will create a filepack with my Hellinic models and all the necessary action scenes, ie walking, fighting, dying, etc.

After you have received these files, you only need to make a simple model, or if you're clever, adjust a model I made. Don't feel guilty or pride, if I were you adjust my models, they're optimised for the process You may spend hours and hours with the exact same result, or you may spend these hours creating 5 new units. Your choice.

Then you exit LW modeller and start LightWave, with which you create scenes. As said I already have created all the scenes, the only thing you need to do is save your model as model.lwo in a folder, open up a scene and hit "Render Scene" or press F10. Then open another scene untill you have done all the actions and angles required for a BIF. When you've reached this stage, I will tell you the next step, which is about using Wellingtons utility to process the rendered images. If you're this far you're 1 hour away from succesfully creating a new unit BIF

I can only guess that you are up to the neck with other thinks ... but when do you expect the last of the hoplite units to come out? ... Sorry for the pressure here. But I really need them at this point.
Also there is a small error with the spear coordinates when attacking.

I have found some time recently (not much) to play a bit of MTW and I've tried to play the Hellenic mod. Would you be so kind and tell me when the next version comes out and if you are going to address the apparent lack of complete building lineup and solid techtree. About the display of weapons. I've told before that I'm only delivering the unit graphics. I leave the correct placement of weapons and shields to others. Adjusting these "errors" requires only a bit of editing in Notepad. Yes, a boring job to do... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

It's been some time ...
I am trying to finish up with the time frames then I will go to the buildings ... getting the tech tree down is a mess. Problem is that you should be able to build the hoplite units fast since these were the "only" units used by the Greeks at the time. The other problem is that I have made a tool to work out the building production file ... but it never worked 100% some but some place http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif

DJ ... good luck with the files this week I will be on leave from work (rebuilding part of the house) but I hoped to have some time to get some work on HTW second part any way.

Maaan caaaaannt waitok im cool now and have one question: is it possible to change the mtw fonts so it would have greek style fonts lke the title? So it would be smth more close to the era..ive changed the northern tribes to muslim/monarchic and made the slaves population instead of pagans ,now in the mod any time you build a farm upgrade or a market (insead of merchants) the slave population will increase sometimes indandering a revolt so the more money you get the more slaves you need the more army you need to keep those slaves under control especially orthodox/oligarchic spartans btw i dont know wich symbol to make for the olygarchy? any thoughts?

95% of the maps are made with the help of pictures of real landscapes.
So if you play Lykia: This landscape really exists.
Sure I used artistic freedom, but the character of the landscape was my target I wanted to reach.


I made also three landscapes, which don´t have a province in the mod (because of theire small size and Silicy is out of the camp.maps area):

I don´t know, if you had recognised it: Silicy is a battlefieldmap with the Aetna, which I tried to built.

Good idea but what ever you do don't change to Muslim but heretics I have used Muslim as the eastern faction and you might get strange rebellions of Greeks in Lydian army types

I have taken a lot of attention to make rebellions that use more than just light javeliners and archers what do you get as rebelling armies?

Take the maps as they are, I don´t know if I´ll change them (time and 3D modelling skills are not very big at the moment).

The gnome editor will save youIt can edit any prod file from 1.0 to 2.01

whats wrong with editing the files manually i prefer it that way at least im doing the work, not someone else's program it may take longer sometimes but other times it is more sure (at least for me it is) to do it manually and you don't depend on something to do the work for you.

The editors give you the ability to change values but these values are not in a unified format i.e. you go and change a specific units attack. This can be OK but it will bring great imbalances ... anyway you get some you lose some.

I am very pleased at the moment ... after singing the Dirladada (means nothing in Greek but it is a fun song) of 30min now and dancing around like a creased man like I have promised my self I am happy to announce that my tool for buildings is working 100% now. What is next ... I will try to add two new buildings for Muslim and fix some stuff in it. If that works too I will proceed to build a tech tree. The main idea under that it will be to get the units you need ASAP. Most of the latter build up will be done to increase your income from trade and other activities. Now these buildings will increase the number of slaves "heretics" in the city. So you will need cultural buildings to counter that.

I don´t think that you´ll find coloured statues.
2500 years ago they (all?) were coloured but the colour is gone and many statues we have are roman copies.
If you´ll find coloured statues, than the colour was reconstructed.

Antalis, you did a huge work, I dont get how the game pik those portraits, aleatory, I gess. My self used the generals for the kings, and there is some flexibility here.
Mabe if you put just 5 portraits inside a folder, no problem. I tried not to mix potery pics with sculpture pics. Thats why I had a problem to find pics for princesses. We need Komninos advice here, to get a standart Portraits folders configuration. Because we need also some guys for the Norther Tribes, and Oriental ones.
But, great work, I'm using your files.

If you use the kings portraits in classical time than the portraits are right: Athen has Perikles, Sparta Leonidas, Macedonia Alex. t. GR., but in the other periods, all messed up.

Hi all,

A good source for portraits can be the archaic "Kuri" and "Kores". Kuri were statues of yang men and Kores of yang women. They are excellent of anonymous portraits and there are quite a few of them.

For the barbarians it is nearly impossible to get anything check the Skythans. For the Lydian, Phrygian, and Persian we can use mostly the Persian and Lydian wall carvings.

Reinventing the wheel is not my game but if quality is what we would like to have ... we have to do it all over again. flip check what buildings can be used and what are totally roman. At the moment I have managed to make a new building prod file. But slowly I will have new buildings and castle sequences there.

I have stumbled on a CA bug ... when you define a new map "Hellenic" and you make a directory "Hellenic" with specific maps it works OK. BUT if you have more than one campaign files like we have ... then in single combat it replicates the files one for every campaign file. So if you put castle maps in that folder you end up with n times the number of maps that you had. So I have taken the decision to totally wipe the MTW files for the Ancient mods.

I know that the castle level is not in the HTW included, but maybe komninos could add it, if its possible.

Most are southern european, but I also have dark age and islamic.
Also if you change the architecture and terrain with the startpos txt. then you have several more castles, like CA did.

I checked the Battle-folder: CA made 12 different castle series.
Looks more, if you play them.
The possibility to define them as arid, temperate, lush, dark age european, southern european, eastern european, islamic, dark age multiplizised this 12.
So you could make very many different castle maps.

Kimmerian or Skythian were steppe tribes living in modern Ukraine. At there high they occupied from north of Danube in modern Bulgaria, Rumania till the Caspian Sea. They mast be related to the Germanic tribes that later rolled over the Roman Empire and most probably o the Huns. They put a lot of pressure to the Thracians in the north, they destroyed the Phrygians in the east and the Persians had trouble with them.
They were used as mercenary forces in both Greek and Persian Armies. They were excellent archers, light troops and cavalry forces. They had excellent relations with the Greeks enjoying the wine and the gold from trade. They were also excellent in Gold craft.
During the Persian wars the Skyth’s that were in Greece refused to take part in battle and remained as city guards while the Greek armies went to the front. The reason was that many Skyth’s were in Persian service and they will not fight brothers. Most probably they plaid safe fearing the Greeks will lose big time.

Maybe you wonder, why all the threads with the castlemaps are gone, were I anounced the links with new versions.
It´s because the versions of the castle pack became too many (sorry).

I don´t like certain insects (bugs): I don´t want to hear now: "Hey why do you release it so fast".
I know this.
You know it´s not easy to be sure, if there is not a single bug in about more then 100 castle maps.

Well good news ... the Buildings are ready after some minor problems ... I have play tested them and they work fine. The problem is that now the Tech tree is more complicated than ever and I have to go though the units and find out what looks good and what doesn't. As I have it, it takes forever to build some hoplites if you start from 0 so I will try to make some scaling.

I have done the changes to the new part of the mod so I have to port the changes to the old part of the mod, and then work on the buildings for different periods (this will take some time). After all is well I will relish a beta of the now V.2 ... this is going to be a big download (since DJs units will be in it). After we get it all worked out the final will be available to public with 3 new time periods to cover the Persian, Peloponnesian wars and the Rise of Macedon ... the final chapter of HTW.

If its impossible to add the landscapes to specific provinces: An other possibility would be to rename them, like in the startpos.txt and make them randomly like CA did.
It would be a pitty, but without them it would be more a pitty.

I am involved in an attembt of localising MTW VI 2.01

I tweeked a little the fonts, not edited the tgas, that will be a huge work with no satisfatory results. The idea was to pik a diferent style font, not the Medieval style default. That is a important tip for moders, to give a better atmosfere for classic ancient mods. So Il post later a step by step guide for all. But you will get allways a english text.

Komninos, its up to you to post here the pics with the results that I send you.

On other news ... I am on final debugging of the files for the V.2.0 of the original. Some crushing bug still exists some place and some fiddling has to be done with some values to bring balance.
So I would expect the first Beta of V.2.0 to be out by next week. Many things will change till the first V.2.0 mostly in the feeling of the game and its graphics that Antalis and flip are working on.

The mod comes in several zips.
The important thing is to install v 1.0 first and add then the other things like the portraits.

From experience the main problems comes with the map image. In the Textures\campmap there should be a folder Hellenic ... in that folder there are two JPG images. You have to open them with ACDSee and save them as TGAs If you do it with PsP then it will not work

If that does not work ... please give more info on where the crushes occur.

No, that doesn´t work.

You need a grafik programm like IrfanView (look the link above) to change it to tga (TGA = Truevision Targa).

Yes I know what you have done wrong:

You have to put all files of the "TEST_HTW_v1_textures-map.zip" into your: c:\program Files\Total War\Medieval-Total War\Textures\campmap\Hellenic folder.
Then change like I told before the two jps into tga´s.

I hope that HTW works then, because you have extracted the HTW_TEST_v1_textures-map.zip into the false folder before.
If not: Install MTW+VI again and extract the campaignmap-files in the right folder

I can see the need of a self install mod.
The work of changing the aspect of the game to a Hellenic atmosfere is time consuming. But all going fine, you'll be atonished with final result. I'm packing all, as files get finished, step by step, to a MTW folder structure. When time comes, Komninos, for the release, I'll put the material in a server.

Is Troy campaign contempled in version 2.0? Because my changes may also afect that.

well as to the people having problems installing this mod i have some good news and some bad news

i have made an installer (the good news) that works

unfortunatly its 100 mb's (the bad) - the problem is the portraits they take up a massive proportion of the installer

Sir Moody, ... did you convert the TGAs in to JPGs in the installer? ... flip, when ever I get too match of the HTW I turn to the Trojan mod ... this happened last night so all I did was make an Achilles, Aias Telamonios and Hector units. All these are single man units that can take entire units single handed. They also have some strange abilities ... ie Achilles has near cavalry speeds (according to the legend). In the following test the units didn’t prove them selves a lot ... Achilles and Aias Telamonios were pitted against 9 units (3 Trojan inf, 3 northern war-band, 3 tribal), they eliminated 1 Trojan Inf. And 1 northern war-band, rooted 2 tribal but were eliminated ... well they killed ~300 men in a tag team fight What I will do is make a new projectile stats file for Trojan war. The mod will not get to V.2.0 since there is no empire building involved but I will probably ship its units with HTW V.2.0. They use common stuff any way.

I don't know when I release the files, but right now I've finished Greek cavalry, Macedonian cavalry and infantry. Please don't ask me to send the files. It always takes some time to collect everything and I would much rather create new units then time after time zipping everything once I've created another unit.

Well, Theofilaktos might be indeed byzantine, but not Timothea (Τιμώ + Θε&#940http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif which is ancient Greek. Pamphilia is a genuin Greek name, even though they used it for a "Barbarian" princess. You might used it or not, according to your taste. You can replace Theofilaktos with Timon or Timias, and also add Solon, Sosistratos and Sosilaos, Kletos, Amyndas, Ariston, Aristodoros, Idomeneas, Hipparchos... damned, there are so many.

The church and cathedral, also the mosque needs an other name, that´s right.
Maybe name the church temple, (and for the cathedral?: maybe Temple of Artemis?, one of the 7 wonders of the world. This temple was huge.).

Hi,

One more point ... those that demand slaves have a negative effect on faith while others have positive.
Also the Pagan tribes can go more than Castle4.

Now we have to fit those and some more to the Greek World. This means to find a way to do these:
Palestra -> Gymnasio (Gymnasium) -> Stadio (Stadium)
Church is common for all except the Pagans so
Holy Ground -> Vomos -> Monopteros (front line of columns)
the Abbey will be
Amfipteros (front & back line of columns)
Cathedral will be
Peripteros (like the Acropolis)
There might be one more
Stadium and Peripteros will give you the large Temple complex (like Olympia, Delphy, Delos, ...)
One of the palaces will be Asclipiio (hospital)

I have to short this out ... many things are Generic with the Eastern and Northern Civs so we have to be careful.

At the moment I'm working on a campaign map. Either you can use it, or I will use it for my own version of Ancient: Total War. It's a bit different from Komninos' map though and certainly not compatible.

Right now I'm making the coastlines and I will add the provinces names and sea boundaries.

Some things to note
Light Cav
For all cav ... charge with spear fight with sword
There were very fue that managed to have archer cav at this time ... Persians did ... they used the Iranians for it and also the Skythans. So for Persian cav build the Kings Guards.

On the map ... I think that if you make more or less the same divisions and the end result gives the same provinces at the same place ... then they might become compatible though all the map files will have to be changed
BTW ... a very nice map ... where did you get it?

I made the map. It takes alot of hours, but it now has the same look as the MTW ones. I think it was worth the trouble as your satellite map didn't had the parchment look that I like.

There will be less provinces on this map. Alot of Thracia and Northern macedonia has been cut off, since I don't think that those provinces are needed, their large size in your map proves that. The same counts for a part of Minor Asia.

How did you make your map? Did you use LMM for MTW1.1 and then converted the txt files for VI? Do you have any tips for doing that?

I use a tool that I developed in Excel ... I use the same tool to produce the campaign too. I am to write up a guide on how to produce a working mod using the LMM 4 and three Excel tools of mine.

I will give you a hint ... If you are VERY GOOD with Excel then go to mapping library project thread and get the China map.

sorry my computer went down and decided to be nice and stay down....

the reason the Installer is so big as it has no way to convert the JPG's into TGA's on its own - and if u ask the poor user to do it not much point of an installer really.... - to compound the problem the portraits have to all be in the installer as well as the only way to copy the viking ones automatically is to use a batch file - and they arnt terrible flexible things to play around with so its either one massive file or the multiple zip method

Please read the thread with all the help of installing it and read the readmes of every zip of this mod you want to install.

At this link is a step by step guide to install the 7 zips of v. 1.0.

at the end of side 9 of this thread is a guide to install the v 1.0 (without the added stuff) (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=5;t=8096;st=200)


For the installation of the other added things (portraits, maps): Read the readmes where to install them of every zip.

To copy all in the main directory won´t work.


One important point for all of you who don´t have an english version of MTW: To use this mod (and every mod) you have to copy all files that are inside the Loc/Eng folder, which you´ll get when you unzipp a mod, into your language folder: So for the german version of MTW, copy all files of the "Eng" folder into your "German" folder (into Loc/German).
Same for other language versions.

I will try to address this problem with a new map that can be use also for a 2000BC - 1000BC mod that has been in my mind for a very long time.

First Always put your polemiste units on attack (MTW bug).
The Greek light units are exactly that so don't put them in to the fray
The Greeks are an unstoppable force when charging but always keep reserves. Don't try to run down fleeing enemies with your Hoplites ... use light units and cav.
Under any circumstances DO NOT expose a venerable side of your phalanxes.
On the battle filed avoid going to the enemy always make him come to you.
Always find a way to rest your troops Hoplites can tear apart other enemies but will be dead tired much faster than them.
This is not the middle ages (they ride bareback) ... cav is not to be used as an assault force. Only Lydians can do that with out regretting it.
Greek can is not to be trusted use them more for flanking actions and avoid eastern cav at all cost.
Akondiste and peltast can do wonders learn how to use them. For one always keep them protected. If the enemy does not have archers or cav you can bring some of them forward and let them spray the enemy heavy units and don’t waist your ammo on light units.
If you are playing a Greek faction ... keep your Hoplites in tight formations ... air tight that is and use one unit on either flank slightly to the back for flank support.
If you are playing for barbarians avoid the heavy Greek units Make them chase you, use javelins and not arrows on them. Bring your can in an advantageous position for a side or rear charge. And keep some units to the rear to avoid mass panic. Always have a numerical advantage
If you are playing for the eastern empires use your archers in your advantage. Bring them in range and point them at the heavy units first. With the barbarians charge them down with your excellent cav.

BTW. For the Greek Vs Greek battles it is a tactical battle all the way. Tray to a\make them move more than what they would like, use the ground to your advantage, always have some reserve units and do not use the heavy units all the time make them rest. If the enemy flees before them use the light units to run them down not your hoplites.

First: You need a fresh install of MTW+VI:


Then install the original v 1.0 (the 7 with the "TEST" in the name - zips):



Open campmap\pieces\: There you´ll find a "Vikings" folder.
Change the name to "Hellenic".

Do the same with:
campmap\Portraits\Vikings ->Hellenic.


Then: Unzip the TEST_HTW_v1-main.zip into your main directory of MTW (rename MTW to whatever you want).
Do the same with: TEST_HTW-v1_Campmap1.zip
and TEST_HTW-v1_Campmap2.zip


Now, unzip TEST_HTW-v1_textures-map.zip into your "Textures" folder.


Now you have to unzip TEST_HTW-v1_textures-men1.zip,
TEST_HTW-v1_textures-men2.zip and
TEST_HTW-v1_textures-men3.zip
into your Textures\men folder.


Now go to the Textures\campmap\Hellenic folder and open "MapTex.jpg": Save it as TGA into the same folder.

Then open "MapTex2.jpg" and save it as TGA.



The important thing is to change the name of two folders and remember: The main-files are the one with the "TEST" in front of the zips name).

Also I used IrfanView to change the Maptexes into tga format(you find the link in the thread).

You have to install v 1.0 first, then the portraits and maps.
Its impossible to say where to put the added stuff at once: You must read the readmes of the added portraits and maps.

To give you a hint: The portaits of the HTW mod will be in (if you install them right) in campmap\Portraits\Hellenic.

The maps (landscapes and castles) are in Battle\maps.
The panoramic pictures are in Battle\MapImage.

The pieces (army-symbol on the campmap, ships, kings symbols) are I think in campmap\pieces\Hellenic.




Yeah I´m glad that the next version will have only one zip, because I see that such many zips are not that easy to install.

so ive been skimming through this thread, and it seems that more content is added every so often. Does this mean that the mod isn't finished, but you're letting people download what is done?

I personally would like to wait until a completed version is out, you know, with an installer/copy+paste thing.

Yes and no: You can download many things and some not which are in the developement stage and will be released with v 2.0.

OK ... just to stop this here ... The v.1.0 is ready and as far as I know ... it has not problems. flip, Antalis have developed several stuff that can be added in the existing (ie portraits, area maps ... etc) and are developing some for the upcoming v.2.0 (castle maps, init screens, ... etc).
Duck John has developed the Hoplites and Peltast units that we will use in v.2.0. You can use these too ... if you know what you are doing

This is for Antalis and others. I was triyng to test new citys/casttles for HTW. If you pik Islamic architecture we get a greek style structure.I was looking for a easy way to draw citys for the city pieces for the campmap. But i realise that this procedure may be also good for the battle maps. Just a thought.

Antalis, thats the point, we hadn't towers and keeps in ancient ages, at least of that kind, so simply dont use them.

The pieces are pure photoshop work, no secrets, I just piked some images and change them.

I tried it out: Problem are also the houses, they look too islamic. Solution would be to remove them completley, but I don´t know.
Without a keep it would be a bit empty there.
Also then you have to change the music, because an islamic theme would be a bit strange to the greek mod.

i think greek houses had slightly pitched terracotta roofed houses, and the fact those houses have wooden roofs is something that middleeastern civs didn't have. they normally had clay or mud brick houses which had a wooden frame holding up a brick roof

Hi,

I will see what I can find in some architectural things I have at home. The South European houses are close for the Ancient Greek arch. The Islamic as it is is very good but I think it would be better of with the Eastern Kingdoms. Greek houses where more open to the public than the Muslims. In general (if I remember) the houses had some "Probolo", a first part of the house forming the outer wall and leading to the iner yard the houses were single to two floors high. At the centre of the house was the "Hestia" where the fire was burning. The "Hestia" was also an alter for the goddess Hestia protector of the family and the Household.

BTW architecture used does not much the music You can actualy make a new folder and mix mach things and name it AT_HTW_ACRH and then you can use it

flip, Antalis I think it is time to check the MTTM thing Welly is quite open to provide info and guidance. And I have seen things that will blast your minds.

Note making really dense housing causes problems at game play ... units can't move through them.

I only wanted to say that I´m taking a break: I have so much to do on university that I have not the time that it needs to stay that active in this forum.

The time here was wonderful, I thank you all for your interrest in modding and so on, but it took me too much time that I need in my real life.

It was fantastic to make things for this mod, I always loved ancient history and ancient literature.
I read about Athen, Asia Minor, Makedonia and so on, but now I can play this history by myself.
I´m very grateful, that I could work in this mod as a landscape-maker and for other things.
I learned a lot in making this landscapes.

Hope to see you soon again.

There was a specific question from Welly some time ago about a Spanish map. So try some search in the Alchemist lab. I gave the links in there. ... If you download the HTW or the China map I think you can find the links also in there. Have in mind that the large scale maps that cover the globe need Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Photoshop Elements to open them.

Hi all,

I have two problems to discus with you
1st
Simulating Phalanx fighting
----------------------------
The "othisis" pushing of the back rows for now is simulated by doubling the Rank Bonus in combat so normal Hoplites get 6, Yficratian 8 and Phalangites 10. But for the strategies I have a problem. There will be three basic options

1. Phalax: Normal depth 6 rows, 16 men
2. Thin spread: 3 rows, 32men
3. Double Phalanx: 12 rows, 8 men

The problem is here the double phalanx should win the phalanx. But with 2xRank Bonus the 12 row has the same Rank Bonus with the normal phalanx. So I am thinking of multiplying it by 3. This will solve the problem but it will deprive the Macedonian and Yficratian a bit.

Revolts

The problem so far is that revolts use the cheapest units found. If you delete these units the game will try the next cheapest unit So I will make two slave rebel units one with small axes and one with a shield and small spear.
These units will be fanatics, ultra cheep (so expect loads of them) but there support will be way to high so if you bribe them you will have to disband them

Double phalange:

No problem. For the Macedonians, I gess we have, as in the historical situation, to lead the heavy cavalry(companions) and Thessalians with timing in conjuction with the phalanxes. Flanking cavalry will decide battle.

Iphicratians are a sort of a lighter type of hoplites. Light armour and small hoplon. Just the saryssa has now 12 meters. This give them more movement capacity but with less shock atributes.

Revolts:
I can't say anything, I gess we have to test it

No ... there is a known bug faced by many modders with the dead bodies ... I think there is a solution by deleting the MTW part of that file but till now I didn’t have any chance to test it. Though now with the DJs units we might have to make a new TGA too.

As for the problems ....
1st ... It is a bit strange on how MTW fighting is done ... so the experiment with the 12row Phalanx failed. Every time the 6row Phalanx won since it enveloped the flanks of the 12row phalanx. What actually happened was that the 12row Phalanx pushed hard in to the 6row and at some point found its side buried deep and then it suffered gravely. O

So I returned to the old values this will have to be done using formations.

2nd. This was a total success The three rebel units were cheep and were constantly picked up by the rebelling forces in different combinations. The problem was the cost of the normal units ... the average hoplite costs ~600coins the Rebel_Hoplite casts 100 If you by your way with these rebels things will turn very bad ... these are the productive population so there will be a constant outrage in the province and there support is huge. There fighting is not very good either. So if you by your way with them then bring in your forces and disband them ASAP

At the moment I am on the balancing side of things. Need to work a bit on the ships. I think I will make one very vulnerable barge that would be easy build. Attack ships will be more difficult. Finalization of the map is also planed ... in the buildings / location. And some more things I have in mind.

New building added
the new building that I felt it was missing till now is the Stadium.
It has tow upgrades and gives valour.
Palestra (modern day rings),
Gymnasium (like modern day gyms), and finally
Stadium.

This was one building that was never absent from the Greek cities. Yang men would spend a lot of there time there preparing them selves to become worthy citizens. In these places you would expect to find not only the future citizens but also some of the brightest minds the since Ancient Greeks followed the code "a healthy mind in a healthy body". Politics, philosophy, history, strategies would be also discussed in there along with Pagratio (One of the oldest marshal arts) and other "sports"

I think Antalis has a good collection of all the links and files needed in page 17 or 18. First get the main files and if that goes well start unpacking the maps, portraits, ... unit graphics ... etc.

BTW the V.1.0 of HTW does not contain the new units bifs seen in many of the later pics.

Hi all,
I failed as a general of the Aetheneans an by the year 350 (1066 for VI) to finish the game, I couldnt make all the provinces mine. So I tried cheating to give my self infinite years/turns.
So I went to the campmap\startpos folder and I changed the dates of all Hellenic*.txt files. No result. Then from the same folder I changed the dates from all txt files but it didn't work.
Is there anything I can do or smthing I made wrong?
