On hopefully a less depressing note, I went to see Black Sabbath (with Ronnie James Dio) last night. It was the loudest gig I've ever been to! I thoroughly enjoyed it!!

I need to see Sabbath with Ozzy now to compare.

Iced Earth and Lamb of God were opening for them. I missed Iced Earth and Lamb of God were Lamb of God-awful.

Yes.
You are a heathen.

Now, i think it is time to discuss biomechanical nuclear penguins. I have drawn up a rough sketch here:

https://img215.imageshack.us/img215/5236/penguinwd5.png

As you can see, it is still rather primitive in form, with the power production relegated to the external nuclear reactor carried as backpack. Possibly the replacement of wheels with tracks is also in order. The rectangular box in the abdomen is the multi-warhead plasma torpedo launcher. Other features include GPS, radar, satellite phone, MP3 player and easy internet access.

Of course France doesn't deserve them, I was just being silly. I was just worried that our Israeli friend maybe didn't understand that there was no malice in my suggestion and possibly actually intended these killer nuclear penguins attack Iran. I was just warning him that this isn't the place for any anti-Iranian sentiment he may or may not harbour.

I personally think that the leading nations should acquire their own nuclear penguins and use them as a preventative weapon to ensure there is no more war!

Right now the only color scheme available is metallic purple/white pearl. Rims are good, there are also 23" versions, with scythe blades attached. Unfortunately the Xbox is for some reason uncompatible with the penguin, the only console that works with it is the Atari 2600. I'm not sure why.

England were playing Croatia tonight at what yanks would call soccer, but the rest of the world would call football. This was the decider in the European Championship qualifiers.

And England lost.

And do you know what?!

I'm delighted!! We didn't deserve to get anywhere near the European Championship. And our "manager" Steve MacLaren will now be sacked! The best news since that unsufferable Swede took over.

The best night in English football for 12 years!!

Yeah, we didn't deserve to qualify, but it's still going to be a shock not playing next summer. Beckham should have started, and David James should have been in goal after the form he's in at the moment. McLaren should never have been made manager in the first place, he was there all the time with Sven, so if he was going to do anything significant, it would have happened before. Get Mourinho or O'Neill in.

EDIT: Unforunatly, Scotland also went out, but they on the other hand, I think did deserve to go through.

Well Treverer my friend, Scotland failed to qualify, although they really deserved to, as they beat France twice! As an Englishman, that was hard to say!

As far as I'm aware, Scotland have been moved to the the second tier of European football for the up-coming World Cup qualifiers.

England should hae dropped to 184th somewhere between Vanuatu and Luxembourg ;)

Well, it's true that England's play sucked in these qualifing campaign, but the Euro 2008 will not be the same without it. They lost on their own hand, after Israel gave them the chance to qualify. It was a big shock for me, that Croatia managed to beat them on their own ground.
On the other hand, we (Romania) have qualified top of the group, ahead of Holland:yes:. So, drinks on me!!!!

Not well, I am suffering from some chronic CTDs at the minute. I foolishly changed a name in decr_names and now I get a crash every couple of turns. So until I either re-install (a prospect I am not relishing) or figure out how to stop it from CTD-ing, all campaigns are on hold.

That said, I was going pretty good. I had forced KH from mainland Greece and had persuaded Epeiros to become a client state for a while whilst I beefed up my economy.

Hopefully I will have this problem licked soon, and I can get back to my AAR, or even start it.

I may have to go cap in hand to Bovi, he seems the man in the know.

Well, I second you, of course I do.

... but I will enumerate what facts you have forgotten to mention:

- Greece is disqualified because all 11 members (!!) & x remplacants are married/coupled and thous form a big family, especially if from Sparte or Thebeia ...

- 'Cause Israel is is the first world wide target of computer-game-based-war: The attackers are known by the codewords "Gray Death" and "Yellow Death".

- Switzerland declares the State of War/Emergency (or however it is called), as there are some Italian fans from Rome trying to transit the country: Every MAN (the footballers are enroled too, as this is the not the female EU-championship) is called to arms against those invaders.

- Reports from our spies, eh ... from TV-news say that Moldavia is invaded by Romania and/or some Kossaks from the Steppes. Apparently a large group of Overseas Greeks (not from the U.S., nay, from the northern Turkish coast !!) rush to their defences but arrive too late: the football team was among those being enslaved and thous deported.

- Latvia ... ehm ... Latvia ... well, seeing that are they are the only other team in the group, they take up the challenge to defeat Luxembourg. But, oh yes! but they are defeated thanks to the 2 HealthPockets of our Frensh supermedic (but there was an ugly scene at the beginning of the match, as he uses to wear no clothes, until one of developpers, ... ehm, nomenclatura of the FIFA just gave him a little somewhat to cover his <bleep>) and to the Lusotannan Mercenary football players that the Luxembourgian team coach/manager was able to hire.
Though L. has no level 2 mine (BUT I WILL WRITE TO THE UN AND DEMAND ONE FOR US L.), though our budget's still in balance, and though our mnai- ... eh, euro-reserves are high, this incredible intelligent-risk-take was made possible by having tohe brilliant idea to sell/demolish ALL the EU-buildings and banks in Luxembourg-City, giving us a so reallly, really truly amazing sum of mn...EURO to hire these Merc-foots.

Hence Luxembourg will be the winner of that group, or as we say: "Daat waer domat bewissen!" If, oho! if you have facts coming to another conclusion, do not forget to name your sources. Any response without the propper sources/citations or written in a strong language will be taken into consideration.

... oh, and the best screenshoots ... scenes of the match will be published in the documentation "The Mouse that Squeaked - a Luxembourgian Football Match AAR".

Been listening to Floyd Mayweather vs Ricky Hatton on the radio. Couldn't buy the pay-per-view because I have to go to work.

Absolutely gutted by the result, but I don't think that Ricky Hatton had any business fighting in Welterweight, all his strength and power is negated by the weight step up. He still fought like a lion and didn't show himself up against arguably the best fighter for quite some time.

Comming back today, I saw a very funny thing:

There was this drunk guy crawling around in the road, wit his trousers round his knees, a can of dear in one hand and his belt in the other.

Funny, but the really funny thing was what he was saying: "help me Fraser!" in the most weobegone, pathetic tone I have ever heard, you would have thought he was being dragged off by alliens or something.:laugh4:

I politley restrained my laughter untill I was round the corner, then I laughed all the way back.:laugh4:

Yo...Wassup everybody, i'm alex, i'm 18 and i'm from New Jersey (you know, that place across from New York) :us-newjersey:

I grew up with Age of Empires, which i played incessantly 'til i was about 16...That was when i bought Civilization III and got hooked on that. Then when I turned 18, i got Civ IV and I was hooked on that like crack...I got both expansion packs and everything!

Then I decided to buy R:TW with my birthday money...little did i know it would be the best game I ever played.

I soon grew tired of the Movie-like depiction of the factions in the game, as my years with AoE had me beome a history buff...being that i'm Italian i was Big on Romans.

By chance, i stumbled onto EB during a google search, and i eagerly downloaded it, the claims of accuracy enticing...

My dreams came true when i started my Roman campaign...No more annoying Senate!!!

Currently i'm studying at Morris County college, Majoring in Game development.

I also took Wing chun Kung Fu for about a year and now i'm starting Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do :chinese: Martial Arts Are cool.

According to the oft maligned source, Wikipedia, the earliest documented decimation was in 471BC during Romes war with the Volsci.

As to who was the commander, that is harder to say, but I'm willing to go out on a limb and say it was either Appius Claudius Crassinus Inregillensis Sabinus or Titus Quinctius Capitolinus Barbatus, as these were the consuls at the time. Although I could be, and probably am, wrong.

Hey Pezhetairoi,
Tell me more about Dodge's "Hannibal" book, if you would be so kind.
thanks.

It's a narrative cum analysis of Hannibal's entire career and campaign against the Romans, from Saguntum to Nola to Zama, in the Punic War. It's made from the military point of view, so there are detailed maps, topographical analyses that have been gone over in person by the author in his travels, and the fixing of several battlesites' locations.

Also includes a detailed stage-by-stage description and mapping of Hannibal's crossing of the Alps and the battles he fought in there. Every single engagement is included and most are mapped so there is great detail. It's all you'll ever need if you wanted to know how Hannibal's war against Rome went from beginning to end. I'm now at the crossing of the Alps and the chapters so far are very well-written.

But you must expect the language of early-1900s acadaemia, very formal and cultured, with some bombastic words.

Yes, Arverni rock! :D

The White House is made from sandstone from the town I was born in. That is possibly the most boring fact, ever!

Also, it is the town that George Washington's father and Thomas Jefferson's family was from. John Paul Jones also raided the port during the American Revolution. There is some history in this town.

I just got hit a glancing blow by a car yesterday on my leg which turned into my road without stopping to let me cross, despite the fact that the green man was on and it was my turn to cross. He even tried to accelerate so he could turn in before I crossed into his lane. But I walk fast. He actually managed to get past me before I ran into the car while trying to stop.

The idiot. The day after my birthday, too. Mfft. Maybe I can buy the local lottery and strike first prize, now. :)

Gave me a few scrapes and a twisted ankle. Dammit. They sting like all the circles of hell. Good thing he noticed me in time and braked, or I wouldn't be talking to you now.

I've been thinking...
This thread is old, very old.
It has been here since the dawn of history itself, and saw many downfalls and revivals. It's wisdom, acquired by experience and immortality, motivate me to verbalize the Great Honor I sense towards this thread. I bow before thee, aristocrats of EB
:drummer:

pezhetairoi

Hrm. It isn't old, and there certainly isn't much wisdom accumulated in here of all places, unless you're talking about that odd moment of lucidity and epiphany you get for a split second in between absolute drunkenness and unconsciousness...

But I take your bow, shameless considering myself an EN aristocrat too. *bows graciously back on behalf of all EB aristocrats*

You may want to bow to those on the Celtic Overpowered thread though, that's even older than this one, and that's a collection of wisdom alright.
