Unit Description
Byzantine are a step up from militias on the Byzantine military caste system. Equipped with a shild and carrying a spear, these men are a useful lower tier infantry unit when playing as the Byzantines. They can form a defensive circle if necessary. They start with poor armor which makes them suseptable to missle fire. But thier armor can be upgraded to mail. They are OK against other spear units and achers in melee, but will fall against heavy infantry. They cannot take a cavalry charge and even in prolonged melee against cavalry, well, heavy cavalry they will eventually waiver and rout. They will inflict casualties though in the process.
