VI Vikings
Contents
Introduction
The Vikings are the most powerful faction in the Viking Invasion expansion campaign. Their ships are unmatched, their infantry powerful, and their homelands untouchable (except through espionage/bribery).
Starting Provinces and Units
Provinces | Units |
Hordaland | 1x Huscarles (faction Leader), 2x Viking Landsmenn, 1x Viking Carls, 2x Viking Thralls, 4x Snekkjas |
Jutland | 2x Viking Landsmenn, 1x Viking Carls, 2x Viking Thralls, 4x Snekkjas |
Faction Specific Units
Tactics
Get the ships around the main island, get troop upgrades, and raid everyone into oblivion. Watch out for armour piercing missiles, and your flanking/cavalry ability is limited. The Vikings are the only faction that can put ships in the Nordsaer, making their homelands safe from invasion.
Raiding
Vikings are the only faction that can move troops over water from a province without a port. This mobility makes them dangerous, as they can pick and choose their attacks and raids, and pull back after razing the province. Coupled with this ability is their looting skill. As long as they are still Pagan, they get 100% of a building's value when they destroy it taking over the province. This makes buildings like Abbeys very tempting targets, since they are everywhere in the early game, usually poorly defended (against Vikings, anyway), and worth 2000 florins to the Northmen.
Conversion
If half the Viking provinces become Christian, the Viking faction will convert (verify). They will lose their raiding bonus, but can still move troops without ports (verify). All of their religious buildings will be destroyed, they will have to build up from Christian Shrines.
