Tactics

The Welsh have a tough position. They are hemmed in by the sea and the 3 Anglo-Saxon factions. Their lands are split, with Cerniu (Cornwall) being isolated from the other 3 provinces. However, this does give them limited borders (Viking raids aside), and Iron is available in 3 of their starting provinces. Guined and Defet can be taken from the rebels to solidify control of the Welsh lands. This will also give the Welsh a good economic base, mines will provide good income (Copper in Clwyd and Guined, Silver in Pouis and Cerniu, and Gold in Defet).

In battle, the Welsh should use their archers to gain the advantage. Normal archers get a +1 valour bonus when trained in Guent, this province should be training as many as possible. At the top end of the tech tree, Welsh Bandits become available. These troops use the armour-piercing longbow and can hide anywhere, making them excellent for ambushing slow moving heavy foot. The Welsh also get Celtic Warriors, which are good for flanking and attacking spear formations.

The main problem a Welsh player has to deal with is the Huscarl spam that will come if the Saxons and/or Mercians are left to their own devices. Even with Welsh Bandits, it will be very hard to make headway against these units.
