I've installed an 808 copy and the TLD mod
The Last Days of the Third Age (http://mbx.streetofeyes.com/index.php?board=20.0) Impressive job, I have to say. It's based on the book itself and not the b-movies. It runs extremely speedily compared to the vanilla's frame by frame going on. I guess it's because the world is pretty much empty compared to Calradia. Some pathfinding glitches exist but they should be forgiven for it's on a brand new map, that of the south and west of Middle-earth (excluding the Shire and most of Eriador, Dale and Erebor). ~:)

Same, too much M&B time is time wasted. That time should be for girls.
Nah, wasted enough time on girls already (expensive, bothersome and you can't switch them off when you're finished :laugh4: ) Level 33, 2500+ renown and 140+ party size says it all (since mid-December) :embarassed:
I've installed an 808 copy and the TLD mod ... mpressive job, I have to say.
Yes, it's absolutely fantastic, isn't it? (At least, if you are a LotR nut like me). Have you downloaded the battlesizer that allows you have to have more men on the battlefield? I tried it for my nth run through with TLD and it makes it much less tedious to fight the hosts.
I tried going back to the vanilla M&B but it just lacks atmosphere and focus compared to TLD.

Just have to point out a good mod I found for 0.903:
Curtain of Fire, a magic mod. I found it quite fun, there are several curses you can use, the ones I like are:
Shockwave: It stops weapons attack, handy when charging at a enemy with bows, and I love it at the end of a batle when you can see the arrows forzen in middle air on fire.
Vanishing Charm: Teleports your enemy to you or the other side of the battlefield.
Lifting CHarm: Lifts you and surrounding people into the air.
Fire Staff: Sets a chosen spot on fire.
When some are used to much, it emits a sort of Tsunami which instant kills. I heard a guy say he killed 150 men, but died as well. Heavily recommend, but its bloody hard! THe enemy with 10 Wizards can kill 60 guys (Things like summoning demons help)
There aren't a lot of good mods out for 0.9xx, I noticed Legions (RTW for M&B) is out, plus Expanded Gamplay, but there are a few good mods in devlopment (Greek Mod, WWI Mod among some)
Theres some exciting news for 1.0, no, not released, but things like multiplayer!
Ehm, no, they wanted to consider multiplayer for M&B 2 but said there won't be any multiplayer for M&B 1.
At least the devs did, if you're talking about a mod, I'd want to see that. ~;)

I'm all for well-balanced and seamless singleplayer before multiplayer. Once they complete the SP basis, I hope they add the MP ability as well.
One thing TLD lacks is the feel of a live world in vanilla. Everywhere is just too deserted. Plus, I hope they add Eriador and Dale/Erebor in a future version.

Has the great war started? (Have you got to level 8?) It starts to get pretty well populated then!

Same here. Vanilla, even the latest version, is just rather dull and pointless compared to TLD.
TLD is a fine mod, but if you are not Tolkien nut there is a pretty larger learning curve (in terms of the world your in). For those who are Tolkien nuts (I mean that in a nice way fella's) its wonderful.
I've been playing the expanded game play mod myself, the additional charecters to choose from at the start is nice.

Hello! Try Band of warriors . It's so cool to equip your 26 companions as you wish and spend theyr att points . You have so many choices , to become a band of mounted archers or a squad of shiny knights ........ and the beautiful thing is you don't pay any upkeep for companions wow , and after a time they can get realy experienced.(also you can let troops with them in a spot)
Try to not invest in leadership because at a stage renown will be enaugh to get a big party .
Ok now back on the horse.:pirate2:

I'm at the beginning of TLD yet, a noob Erundur (Mouzafphaerre would sound Orcish in a Middle-earth setting ~D) struggling to remain standing up. The game runs too smoothly and I'm trying to adapt since I've got used to almost frame-by-frame fighting in vanilla (makes it both easier and harder).
I don't think vanilla is dull. The feel is right there. I hope they add an open-ended storyline though.
Btw, yup; a radical, fundamentalist Tolkien nut here. :book2:

Band of Warriors is pretty good. But the Vaegir on that thing.. eurgh.. no thank you. They need nerfing, and.. well.. they're wearing bloody purple armour.
Expanded Gameplay mod is probably my favourite at the minute. I'm running around with my Bear Clan lackeys, serving the weakling king of Swadia for the time being, slaughtering everything left, right, and centre. Fun stuff.

The expanded game play is a good mod though I have not played it in a while, I got tired of starting a new campaign every few days when a new version would be released, it's great that the guys on that mod can push out new versions so fast but it feels like I barely start a campaign on one version when a new version is released days after.

Does anyone her have any tips for using Khergit Horse Archer types en masse (30 or 40 of them)? Whilst my character is able to (more or less) look after himself my carefully recruited and horded Horse archers tend to gallop whooping with glee into the lances of opposing mounted opponnents.
Against other Horse archer types (ie: Steppe Bandits) they do best if left to themselves, and the swirling melees that develop after the first charge are fantastic fun, with riders spread all over the battlefield, constantly switching between bows and swords whilst keeping an eye out for someone trying to get on my tail (More than anything these fights remind me of aerial dogfights), but against shock cavalry it seems to be a real no go, first attempt my Horse archers ploughed into a clump of Caravan Guards and were decimated and after raising a new army about 10 Swadian Knights proved more than enough to humilate my Steppe warriors (Whilst the Knights foot entourage cheered them on from a nearby hill).
I've experimented a little bit with the various orders and found that "follow me" works quite well as long as the bad guys are given a very wide berth but there are always a few stragglers who get caught, "charge" is a recipe for disaster (Think Light Brigade) and just leaving them to do their own thing is about 50/50.
Has anyone here had any success with large bodies of mounted archers?
I'm a Swadian, so I've never had much experience with large numbers of horse archers. I'm trying to imagine it in my head, though, and I think your best bet would be to stick with the follow me command, and attempt to use your mobility to stay at the enemies flank and rear if at all possible.
Losing a few of your slower soldiers might well be inevitable.

Thanks Bellum, after a little more experimentation I have to agree. Its 'Follow me' and hope for the best with Khergits.
I suppose I was a little spoilt with my earlier Knightly/Hired Blade type parties which could steamroll through the countryside (and its associated defenders) like some crazed victorian Industrialist on speed.
I've got a Khergit village which owes me obedience etc etc so I suppose I'll just keep creaming off the youth of that establishment as recruits (and use their own taxes to pay them) until I've got it all worked out.
Who'd be a peasent eh?
Thanks for the advice.

I have a Khergit character at the mo', and tend to use "follow me" for the cavalry (not least the stop the dumb :daisy:s getting in between the enemy and my arrows ~D) I also love the steppe bandit battles - great fun :2thumbsup: My first fief is now so loyal, on my last recruiting visit I actually landed a wadge of KVHAs - I was gobsmacked - the peasants do eventually come up in the world....

Right now we can just d/l off the MB website, but it a third party steps in, does that mean we have to go through them everytime there is a new MB, and will we have to pay again?

I hope not. They guaranteed lifetime free upgrades when we bought the game. They also stated they would make it freeware should their company go out of business. I guess and hope that it's just a delivery deal, ie publication.

The publishing deal will benefit both parties. They agreed on a similar deal some time ago, but this time I think they really made a serious contract about the publishing of M&B.
Small companies make the best quality games. M&B is the best RPG out there, in my case at least.

Well, I'm afraid I'm over my quota and won't be able to download this for at least a few weeks or so, but I must say that I find this to be a surprisingly well developing project. Still, it's really rough around the edges. Poor frame rate, sporadic sound... If it were not so frikin fun I would not have gone past the tutorial.

Invest in the training skill. Also in surgery, which (by definition) increases the chance that they will be knocked unconscious instead of killed. :dizzy:
I put the no0bs at the top of the list (front ranks) and the veterans down below. This way the new recruits have a higher chance of having battlefield training and if they are killed you can replace them easily.
In the case of TLD, at the beginning of every battle hit I and then tab to order the infantry to stay in formation. If you start atop a hill watching a river and you have decent archers order to hold ground.

Siege bug is known and confirmed.
Provoking war is, AFAIK, a feature yet to be implemented. But I believe you can do it in certain mods, though don't quote me on that.
.
you can just attack armies from the other factions which lowers their reltaions ot you personally but not your entire Kingdom, so you can fight a private war.

Correct, though a person or two on the forums are trying to port it, without much success.
OK, I'm a lvl 37 charecter now, with 3 villages and two castles. I ride with 60 armoured knights and 4 heros, and myself own a hevay charger and reinforced plate. I've been mowing through enemies with no toruble at all. but nowhere in the game have I found the 'black armour' or the 'dark knights' I've heard so much about..........read about a set of Samurai Armour, but have still not been able to obtain it. Any suggestions?
Veho Nex
04-10-2008, 05:54
I believe the fabled black nights were nerfed and removed for some reason, but the samurai set is there some where I only got the sword and dont remember how also there is a flint lock pistol in the depths of the game you just have to return the coding to its rightful place
The locations of the samurai set are somewhere in this thread, IIRC Sasaki posted them.
I do get a bit bored of it sometimes. Anyone tried the Hundred Year War Mod?
Mouzafphaerre
04-10-2008, 13:14
.
I did. It's basically the same gameplay with a different (ugly :shame:) map and two factions. There are enhancements such as ravaging parties etc.
I couldn't dive into it deeply because the 0.9x version of the game lags unbearably on my machine. It's almost frame by frame. OTOH 0.8x (TLD) runs smoothly and perfectly. :inquisitive:
.
Yeh, I've been played 100YW, its not bad. Rather interesting to be honest, enjoying killing Frenchies... :laugh4:
The game lags?? :inquisitive: My nearly medievial machine runs .901 pretty smoothly.....
The Samurai Armour locations I know, Jekala, Rivacheg and Tihr, but is that what everyone is calling 'Black Armour'?
And could someone please give a little detail about what part of the coding should I change to what to get Dark Knights back?
Mouzafphaerre

P4 3 HT with 512M RAM must be the dark ages if your mediaeval machine runs it smoothly.
The weird thing is TLD runs like a charm. It's .9x vanilla and .9x HYW that lag. I've just played the .8x vanilla tutorial and there were no lags there either (while the vanilla .9x tutorial had lagged as badly as the full game) so there's a discrepancy between my configuration and the .9x engine it seems.

I have a computer worse than all of you and .9 actually is more smooth than

What's new in .950? I couldn't find a changelog.
Is it just me or do other people get a Paradox Interactive start-up video?! I think I might have to re-download and install, I keep getting script errors, etc.
From what I've seen it's pretty buggy, I'm waiting for a fix before I D/L.
Everyone gets that Paradox video, the way they've put it is quite messy, apart from that and a few bugs here and there, the game's very nice. I specially like how the heros can now like/dislike each other, haven't got that far but maybe they can even quit the party if the don't like you.
There is a bug report on the official forums. Very helpful.

I'm a bit concerned that Armagan has stated that this version conatains almost everything that will be in the release version. I don't know about you but if I picked this game up off the shelf having never seen it before I would think it's a bit lightweight for a release version game, I think it needs more content.
For instance I would like to see you being able to actually manage your villages and castles instead of being able to build a half dozen buildings, maybe owning a territory instead of a village and being able to send out patrols, concentrate on certain trades and maybe found your own villages. I think the game needs quite a lot more work to bring it up to the standard you would expect to see from a Total War or Civ or any other released version game.
So Paradox owns TaleWorlds then?
2. Direct X 7 rendering - many textures appear as a kind of shiny black or otherwise screwed up.
So annoying!!! Messed up completely.

So Paradox owns TaleWorlds then? Nah, they just have a publishing deal.
Well I was hoping for more content too, there's a lot of unexploited territory and scope in the game. But it's their first game, maybe they add an expansion or something in near future.
They've got a good formula, they've made an excellent start. I'm sure this won't end with version 1, this game is going to go far.

Quite probably true, but if they want you pay a similar amount to any other game on the market you expect a similar amount and quality of content, and I've never been a fan of using expansions to add content that should have been in in the beginning.

I'm sure they said a few releases back that the focus of Mount & Blade was now more about the engine than the main game - ie the mods will make up for the original game's short-comings. That said, mods can only do so much, and there is a lot more we'd all like to see. However, the game has been in development for a very long time so they have to draw the line at some stage before the graphics etc fall even further behind other commercial games. As to the .950 release, I too am waiting for the next patch as there are far too many problems reported with this version, especially for those of us stuck with using DirectX 7 options.
I'd said I found the new attitudes of the heros a plus point, well now, just after playing for a few more hours, I find them downright infurating, four of them abandoned my party one after the other due to their internal conflicts, making away with all the costly attire I had provided them. I just had to quit the game in disgust.
Anyone else figured how to recruit them all and keep them all happy at the same time?
:laugh4:
I only recruited a few and they don't complain a lot. Reminds me of Jagged Alliance 2 this feature. ~D
The only two bugs I encountered are that sometimes there is no sound at all, although that could be due to me changing sound drivers, but I found a way to circumvent it(play the test sound in the driver program, it always works after that :dizzy2: ) and then I tried to train villagers and got some script error which effectively ruined my savegame because it would always appear after reloading. I haven't accepted that quest since and it works fine so far, I use DX9 of course. :sweatdrop:
I think the new content is pretty good anyway, didn't expect that much and whether you'd like more or not I think you can have a lot of fun with the game as it is already.

such an awesome game :dizzy2:
OK, all my heros have left me apart from two people who seem to fancy each other, a saleswoman and a captain of the guard. My party of fifty seems surprisingly inadiquate without their party bonuses. And what's worse is, I haven't been able to find the heros who've left me again, it's almost as if they've left the game permanently.
On the up side, I completed a few quests for some pretty ladies, and gained their support (keeping my fingers crossed to see if the game has a marriage option in it ~D ) and I've managed to regain a lot of lost money by trading, the system is a lot better this time, you actually know what'll be cheap in a place for certain, and that you can sell it at another place at a very high price.

Characters look funky, though. I suspect they hit the "random" button a few too many times. Far too many large heads, receding chins, and tiny eyes almost touching each other. Can't say I like the new facial hair, either. Still! All in all, not a bad update.

Does anybody else have insane, unplayable slowdowns and text that becomes blotchy and unreadable if you play for 5 straight hours? It usually happens after 5 hours and a large battle, but then transfers to the campaign map and smaller battes.

Yeah I used to get that a lot on my POS laptop. It barely met system requirements and I think that may be the problem. Also it was with .808. But it was sometimes fun to look at. Anyways, if you post some your system specs and post your main issues I can help you out more indepth. Well does that mean we should delete the Console TW games ( I'm making a really bad point considering the name of the website...) I think a sticky for this one(+168 modded version) game will help out a lot of people when there is new updated information. It's not like creating a whole subsection on it. And It looks to be more active than most stickied thread right now. And starting post was back in.... '05. 3 years is quite a long time for a single game.

You will have to talk to Tosa about the Console forum. As for this thread, it gets enough active discussion to keep it on the front page without the need of a sticky.
Hmm, the horse death animations are a bit weird but I don't remember seeing a horse fly like that. Too bad that King Ragnar seems a bit bugged in my current game as a Nord, first he was nowhere to be found, noone knew where he was, then he got released from captivity and still noone knew where he was until he suddenly showed up as a one-man party and I failed to follow him in a campaign because he now moves around like a lightning bolt. :dizzy2:
Playing Nords is fun though, and their new tier 6 Huscarls are hard to get but look quite good and seem to be very good fighters. :2thumbsup:

You can't - that's the point of the "personality clashes" - seems like a maximum of six will stay together, so you have to choose which ones you like best and who like each other. I have settled on Bunduk, Jeremus, Klethi, Deshavi, Firentis and Beshatur as a stable, happy combination, but there are other groups which work well together. There's a thread at Taleworlds Forum with more details

[side track]The two console games are CA titles and get their own forums because of that. We see regular visits by Eat Cold Steel and the other developers there; having dedicated forums for those games makes it easier for them to locate the relevant threads and interact.
I've never felt M&B needs a sticky; as Kek says it keeps bobbing around on the front page well enough on its own. Personally, I don't feel that large numbers of stickies are productive. It's easy for a topic to become lost in a mass of pinned topics, and one thing I've noticed time and again in all my years on the net is that people often overlook the sticky threads.
A dedicated M&B subforum has been mentioned in the past; that failed on two counts. Firstly, there's not nearly enough traffic to make it necessary. Secondly the game's not part of the org's cannon; it's not TW and it's not CA. If we were seeing many posts per day over a lengthy and sustained period of time, then maybe.[/side track]

Bunduk seems to have the most personalities clashes, especially with lezalit, he also dosnt like Rolf or the majority of the "Royalty" people, with the exception of Matheld, I havnt seen Matheld have a problem with anyone, here a list of things of people that seem to get on (They tell after a battle in 0.951)
Nizar - Metheld
Bunduk - Katrin
Lezalit - None I've found, seems to frequently dislike Bunduk
Alayen - None I've found, dosnt have many problems with the exception of Nizar
Rolf - None I've detected although and Bunduk do not get along
Ones that I know exsist but havnt found in my current character:
Borcha (YAY!)
A Female thiefish sort of character
Some male repenting charcter Begining with F
Another one, has a high engineering skill. Artimeener or something.
The man you used too Meet in Zendar and would join if you gave him padded leather armour, I'm pretty sure exsist yet I have not found him yet.
If gain enough renown, you can have your own flag/heraldy which is pretty neat, Its something like 50+, There seems to be a trigger for getting it, joining some tournaments and joining a campain as mercanary seems to do it, although you automatically get one if you join a faction, but you require a certain renown for that.
Marnid(the guy you gave padded armour before), Ymira are there, there's also some professor who is good at healing people, a female hunter and some other characters I think. Lezalit didn't get along with Ymira and Jeremus(the professor) so I let him go. I think mainly it's about some characters being "evil" and some being "nice" although there could be more to it but it seems like some enjoy pillaging, some don't, Lezalit is happy when your food runs out while most of the others complain etc. Pretty nice feature IMO, you can't just recruit all of them and have to choose a group of people who get along. :2thumbsup:
There is no one who does not have a problem with no one and no one who does not like one more person. Apart from those mentioned by Aboskee and Husar, there are atleast six more, a woman-thief (Klethi I think), a siege expert, a Khergit looking charecter, and another black lady whos an archer, and another two i believe.
Everyone has one person who he/she likes, and atleast one who he/she hates.
Bunduk hates Lezlit;
Klethi hates Brocha;
The Negro Archer lady hates Rolf;
Matheld hates Ymira;
The Khergit guy is disliked by more then one of these.

I'm having a lot of fun with this. So far, I'm playing as a vassal to the Yellow Vikings. A mistake, since now we are at war with three kingdoms, including the Purple Mongols (I HATE horse archers). I managed to capture my first Green Byzantine castle, but it's still a long and boring road to greatness.
Currently, my stats are:
Level 23, 12 str, 13 agi, 17 int, 12 cha
Ironflesh 2
Power Strike 4
Weapon Master 3
Shield 1 (came with the character, I never use shields)
Riding 4
Trainer 5 (free party exp? YES PLZ)
Tactics 1 (can anyone explain battle advantage?)
Pathfinding 4
Spotting 4
Inventory Management 1
Wound Treatment 2
Surgery 4
First Aid 2
Engineer 5
Persuasion 1
Prisoner Management 3
Leadership 4
Trade 1
Polearms 236 (couching lance damage = single best anti-heavy cavalry weapon)
Crossbow 202 (I never use this except in castle sieges).
Any advice?
The_Doctor

can anyone explain battle advantage?
I think it changes the size of the starting armies, the higher your advantage the more troops you start with, and the map generated is more in your favour, eg, you start near high ground, or near a river.
I think battle advantage affects the amount of troops you get, if you fight with 50 vs 200 men and have no tactics skill you will be seriously outnumbered on the battlefield, a higher tactics skill can even the numbers out a bit more. Someone also mentioned more orders or something on the forums but I never had really high tactics so I can't really say more about this or what he meant with it.

Well, I've done a bit more 'research' over the weekend (okay, playing, I admit :laugh4: )
There are the "old" characters
Rolf
Marnid
Borcha
Ymira
plus
Nizar (black Kherghity type)
Beshatur (the other Khergity one)
Jeremus (the "professor" - I've given him a good dose of "age slider" and a nice receding hairline so he looks the part ~D)
Bunduk (errm, he starts with a crossbow is about all I can think of)
Deshavi (the black female archer/huntress type)
Klethi (or Klepti :beam: , as I prefer - the thief)
Matheld (Nordic noblewoman...)
Lezalit (the sergeant-major from Hell)
Firentis (the ex-captain of horse, IIRC - I'm training him up as a heavy swordsman now)
Katrin (ex-victualler - the only one I've not tried out in my party)
Alayen (a Swadian noble, I think, and he has a crush on Ymira)
... I'm sure I've forgotten someone..... oh yes, Artimenner the engineer
I've now got a successful party of EIGHT: Ymira, Beshatur, Jeremus, Bunduk, Deshavi, Klethi, Firentis, & Alayen
(ie Ymira and Alayen are new additions to the six I had in earlier post). I tried Nizar in a previous game, and it didn't work out... Rolf is too far up his "noble" posterior... Borcha is a liability... Marnid is too miserable. This time around I tried to add Matheld and Lezalit (one at a time) to my party but friction soon became evident, so I "let them go". Matheld was again very high in her own opinion, so I left her in steppe bandit country with a tatty shirt from some looters and no weapon. Lezalit... well, I stranded him amongst the sea raiders with nothing but a kitchen knife and his noble robes (yep, that's right, I sold his boots and sword :laugh4: ) Those I've let go keep crawling up to me in the taverns, begging "Hello, boss, my life is miserable can I please come back...." to which the answer is usually "Hmmm, nice outfit you have there..... no!" :laugh4:

I had gone away from M&B for a bit at the .901 level but returned when i saw .951...
On the subject of the NPCs, how do you feel about the arguing? Some of them just don't like each other. Plus they have strong feelings (positive and negative) about some of the actions you take or missions you complete.
I am a down on his luck minor noble (squire) and mercenary to the Swebian kingdom and I keep getting my arse kicked! :laugh4:
I feel that archers have become more effective and facing off against a large group of forest bandits can be pretty nasty.
I have had three episodes of building up some troops, doing well and then losing it all. The last was when I took part in the defense of a siege at a castle. 60 defenders against 250 attackers, it did not go well. I followed a mission that started a war (Swebia is at war with 5 nations now and not doing so well). I got out of that (minus my nice horse) with only my 6 NPCs and these scattered when we were jumped and captured by bandits.
The last thing I did was single handedly defeat a group of 7 forest bandits. I have crude plate armor, mail coif, plate gauntlets, mail boots, a sword and shield, a stubborn sumpter horse, some food and no money . It was one of the most tense battles so far. I finished on foot, covered in blood with about a millimeter of health left!
Overall, loving it still...

You managed to find those you let go back? After how many ingame days approximately? I haven't seen anyone of the chaps that left me again anywhere as yet. Was beginning to think they leave the game completely......

That's it, that is why I love the game, you can actually come out feeling like a hero. A heady feeling of euphoria as if you really did something great, one needs to be really immersed in the game ofcourse, but wow, what a feeling that is, to solo a band of bandits and come out bloody and broken but still on your feet with a red sword in your hand :beam:

.951 certainly adds a lot more life into the game. The atmosphere has improved and it's beginning to feel like you really are engaged in a war. That said it's incredibly buggy. I managed to save an ally from an enemy king, which earnt me an improved relationship with my ally. Then the king's party was stuck on the map with 0 party size. So I attacked it, got a load of errors, won an non-existent battle and now my friendship with my ally increased from 14 to 100. Not a bad day's work! Later on the King was looting villages all by himself. Suffice to say I soon put a stop to that.
And the horses are mad! I managed to get my horse stuck on a fence, whereby it went asleep for a bit, before having some kind of a fit and rolling around in mid air and then falling asleep again on its back. Crazy horses indeed!

How the heck do I make the rebellion successful when there are no more Swabian territories to conquer and the King just refuses to be captured?
EDIT: Nevermind. I was cruising around Rhodok land after securing a peace treaty with the Nords (thank you, Guild Master!), when all of a sudden I got a popup saying Swadia was eliminated.

It might make a difference whether you let them go or if they storm off on their own account. On my first 950 character I waited for the arguments, then never saw them again once they left. This time around (new 951 character), after abandoning them in the wilds they somehow made it to the nearest tavern before I got there myself :dizzy2:
I was thinking maybe taking some back for a second go, just in case their attitude has improved in the meantime, but I somehow suspect the same arguments will start up again... anyway it would give me a chance to sell off or "borrow" Lezalit's Noble Robes :laugh4:

There were some skill changes:
Trade - reduces your trade penalty by 5% (was 10%)
Leadership - increases maximum number of troops you can command by 5 (was 3)
Wound Treatment - Party healing speed is increased by 20% (was 30%)
Pathfinding - Party map speed is increased by 2% (was 3%)
Power Throw - increases throwing damage by 10% (was 7%)
Power Strike - Each point to this skill increases melee damage by 8% (was 6%)
Pathfinding really didn't need a nerf, imo.

Took me a while to finally do this... but before you upgrade, from within the game, go to your character page, click 'Statistics', then 'Export character'. Then quit and patch up. When you start up again, create a new character (not sure if it has to be the same name). Do the same, but click 'Import character'. You lose all your kit, reputation and stuff, but your skills and stats remain.

Yeah but it means you'll get "wuh?bluha!"ed all the time by khergits, starting out in the Steppes with your lvl 1 is not a nice place, RUN! YOU CAN'T WIN! :sweatdrop:
Best places for early characters, in order
Vaegir (Very weak deserters, forest/mountain bandits are fairly good challenge)
Rhodok (Veteren Spearmen... but other wise fine)
Swadians (OK, occansionly huge mountain bandits and some men-at-arms deserters but meh)
Nords (VERY Powerful sea raiders will mean its impossible to win without a large force or a strong one)
Khergit (Only way to win is not to be here, the Steppe bandits will butcher your early game character and you can't escape)
The only way to face a Khergit party is to ride a spirited courser if you prefer melee, or a heavily armoured horse if you're a good archer. I go for melee becaue they have too many archers. Either I run out of their range and then suddenly turn on them as they follow me, or I simply run alongside them and slash them with my two hander.

A video by some Swedish game reporters on M&B!
http://www.tv7games.se/ValtSpel.aspx?clipId=245
The narration is Swedish, but doesn't really have anything new, except for saying at the end that they plan to have some sort of multiplayer in the next version of M&B. Armagan and Ipek talk in English, so no translation necessary there.

Does anybody have a good soundtrack (music pack) for M&B. I've been looking and asking on the talesworld forum but it hasn't resulted in much. I've found one music pack but I can't download it because either I can't distinguish symbols with small cats in them from sybomls with dogs in them or the website has a problem with numbers typed on a laptop.

I suspected as much - I was suffering noticeable lag in battle last night... nothing too strange in that given my hardware, but on Day 1, soloing 7 looters????
Admittedly, I'd started up the game before going out for a while, so it had idled a few hours, plenty of time for memory leakage to hit the fan... Don't think I'll get too attached to this character, 954 can't be far away...
Check the Mount and Blade Repository. Many alternate soundpacks there. Most of them are remixed version of TW music, pretty good. I recommend this one.

 I'm on a 955 campaign at present, and I've even caught King Harlaus (dratted man escaped, though, and I really needed the ransom money :furious3:)
In 953 I captured King Yarogleck a few times, and had an amusing encounter, along these lines:
- You have encountered a caravan, Kingdom of Vaegirs
- "Back off, knave, this caravan is under the protection of King Yarogleck!"
- "O RLY? Take a look at my prisoners, and hand over all your loot" :laugh4:

In my .955 game I was commanding the Swadian rebels and constantly battling with the foolish Rhodoks and Swadian loyalists. I'd capture lords all the time. Those kings are worth a lot of money though. When you get 18000 offered to release the king, well you might as well take it. Especially since he'll just spawn back with about 20 troops and you can defeat him again and again! That's how I ended up funding my 500+ top tier army - through ransoms.
As to .960, I'm not sure about updating my game yet. There are a few things I don't like the sound of. Although they say it's the last beta version, I'm hoping a quick bug-fix for the new invisible/hollow face problem will be released.
500+ top tier army - through ransoms.
How did you get such a high figure on the max party members limit? I've been playing .903 since quite some time now, but even with good focus on leadership I can lead just 200 men.
professorspatula
06-21-2008, 20:49
Actually it was over closer to 600 top tier troops. I don't travel with them though; crikey imagine all the horse poop we'd leave around the countryside if we all travelled at once! I stationed most of them in my castles and towns. As I have such high trainer skill and several villages which I am on very good terms with, I can easily train up new recruits into decent troops in no time. These I then give to my other lord's newly conquered castle garrisons (seeing as they're too lazy to add troops to the garrison themselves). Generally I travel around with less than 60 men. There are barely any decent sized armies to fight that I'm not at war with so that's usually enough. For sieges, to get the battle-odds more in my favour I bring extra troops along or another lord.
Generally I find it more fun to bring the minimum number of troops along that will give a decent fair battle. I wouldn't bring along 500 even if I could!
Oh right. I thought 500 in a single army, and I was like 'Whoa! How's such a big party possible!'.
60 men are just fine, I take around the same number with me, all mounted though, and there is not a party I can stand. It's fun to ride past slashing at footmen :laugh4:.

Secondly, the stats at the end of the battle are bugged, for example, the stats of battle 1 are shown after battle 2, those of 2 after 3 and so on, a battle too late. That's it.

Im going back to M&B. The thing is...
I have to wait 25 weeks for finishing the download! I haven't been able to find a good and fast server, but at least I have the 76% completed.
I updated to .960 this yesterday evening, and playing into the night, I've managed to conquer all Swadian settlements as a vassal of the rebel faction. Still I can't seem to finish the quest. What all do I have to do before it can be done? I have 15 of the 20 lords on my side. I have won all the cities\castles\villages.
What else do I have to do to finish the quest?
I finally got a chance to upgrade from .903 to .960. I did have to go to an internet cafe, download it to my cellphone and then transfer it to my computer but it was worth it, it is way better now.

IIRC, hunt down any remaining lords that may still be roaming them map, or annoyingly - any caravans that may have got lost or stuck somewhere. Good luck!
ok, so I finnaly convinced my dad to buy me the game on Sunday, and since then my times been spent on lords of war running around saxon England hacking the Britons to death, as their at war with everyone, the danes, who I really wanted to fight, are only at war with them. Some screenshots have indicated that characters will have new animations. And if the system requirements touted on a few sites are correct, the final version will take up around 300-400 megabytes more hard drive space than the current one, around double the current size - probably taken up by more detailed or completely new graphical content.

Wow, so I finally forked over some cash for this game, and I'm truly addicted. Currently, I'm having a blast in .960 helping Lethwin Far-Seeker to retake the Nordic throne. Just finally got the tide turned in terms of "winning the war", by taking Suno from the Swadians, whom I had already been at war with, and convincing 8 other nordic lords to join the rebellion, netting a fair number of castles. Interesting looking map, at least imo:

I hope that 1.0 has some kind of story line, when you create a chracter it does give you options as to why your going out into the world, either for money or revenge, etc, it would be nice to have some kind of alternate endings depending on what options you choose during chracter creation.
I doubt that they'll have a 'set' storyline.........the farthest they might go on the story bit might be like what they had in Pirates II............you do it if you want or don't......this is open ended you know, they even have that 'retire from adventuring' option where you settle down in a city finally, and depending upon your status get a profession and rank.
Btw, .960 has the option of starting the player faction too, where you hold fiefs without being a vassal. This can happen when you rebel against your ruler, as in when he does not give you a castle/city you ask him for........you get this option too. I've been playing this since a few days, but've been unable to get any vassals for me, and I'm at war with three nations togather, so it's getting a little tiring now, anyone here been successful in recruting lords for their own faction?

I didn't have any luck recruiting lords to my own cause, but since I took up Far-seeker's cause, I've been quite successful in getting lords to join the cause. Furthemore, Far-Seeker's practically been a puppet so far, since every castle, village, and city we've taken thus far has been assigned by me, though with his approval. He's yet to actually decline my suggestions though.

Argh....
Okay, I need some help. I've all but crushed the Nord's ability to effectively counter attack my forces, and have essentially reduced them to a last bastion of resistance in Tihr. However...
I CAN'T take the darned city! I swear, this place is borderline impossible! Anyone got a tip on how to take this fortress?
Taking cities is one of the hardest thing one has to do in-game.......the most men I've ever carried at once was 150, and even then it was damn hard to take it.
I normally just use an axe to crash through the chaps on the wall and drop down on the other side, then, finding cover, I use my bow to pick men off the wall from behind one by one, picking up discarded arrow bags when I run out, and continue this as long as I can. Then once I'm knocked out, I just wait for a while and then begin another storming. With all my army, I manage atleast 150 in a go, with a loss of no more than 15 dead and 20 wounded. This way, I finish off the garrison and take the city :beam:

Well, its not that I can't take any city. I've already taken Suno and Sargoth with help from a couple of my allied lords. Tihr, however, is just a whole other level of ridiculous because of narrow ladders and a spike wall...

I never go in with the first wave. I always hang back and snipe with my crossbow while my Sword Sisters and Knights do my dirty work. Once my soldiers made a beachhead on the walls, I move in and stay on the top of the ladder with my pike, attacking whoever gets close to me. I switch to a war pick or other light melee weapon when the walls are cleared.

City/castle taking the SE way. Train up a massive army of top-notch archers/x-bows (a mix is handy).
Besiege city with said army, tell them all to stand ground. Assuming tactics skill is high enough, and with a liberal dose of sharpshooting yourself, plenty more enemies should die than friendlies. Retreat. Repeat until there are very few left. Run in with men at your back and democraticly issue merry mayhem to the survivors.
(High medic skills help too)
Save the knights for field battles... (fond memories of taking down 700+ Vaegirs with a hundred or so Swadian knights at my back. In one go.)
Heavy infantry - I'm sure they have their uses, decorational perhaps. If they can't ride, they're not all that much more effective in melee than a bunch of archers - and plus they don't shoot. Unless they're Nords. When they rock.
