The Castle is the third stage building in the castle line. It is required for many of the Level 3 buildings, and necessary to move on to the higher level buildings.
As a defensive structure, the Castle is an improvement on the Keep. It consists of an enclosed area with stone walls, arrow towers and a gate. 600 troops can be garrisoned in the Castle (cavalry count as 2 men each).
Establishing a Castle (or any building in the castle line) has some effect on the province happiness, but it is unclear how much as this is hardcoded.
The Castle has a -20 magnetism value for mercenary recruitment.
