I'm Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite thread in the Gameroom.
Game Information:
- To celebrate the upcoming Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, this game is based on the Mass Effect video game trilogy.
- 13 villagers / townsfolk vs. 4 wolves / mafia. No third parties or multiball.
- No cults, no jesters, no roles which can influence voting / the daily elimination, no false alignment reveals. No bastard shit, no stupid crap. The host will not lie to you.
- There will be some spice but nothing crazy - it's not night chess or role madness or anything like that.
- 48 hour day, 24 hour night. Phase change at 8 PM US Eastern time.
- There is no posting at night, no outside communication. Not that kind of game.
- Let's keep it fun and friendly. Play to win but don't go overboard. Laugh at my jokes.

~ 13 town vs 4 mafia. Town wins when all the mafia are dead. Mafia win when they can't be prevented from killing everyone else. A sample town Role PM is shown below:

Corporal Richard L. Jenkins is an Alliance Marine under the command of Captain Anderson, and a member of the SSV Normandy's crew. Jenkins was born in a rural district of Eden Prime, and dreamed of visiting more urban areas before he decided to become a Marine, stating that "even paradise gets boring." After enlisting, he wanted to prove himself as a notable soldier and test himself in combat.

~ Please use common sense and don't try to angleshoot by referencing the flavor in your Role PM or anything like that.
~ You may claim your character name or roleplay a bit if you want, it doesn't imply anything and mafia have characters set aside they can fake claim. You cannot brute force the game using a spreadsheet, mass role reveal, or your knowledge of the universe. Again, it's literally random and has nothing to do with alignment. Don't try to read into it or make this into *that* kind of game.

POSTING
:stare: Posting is allowed only during the Day phase. I should be around to note specifically when you can/can't post, but in general :00 good, :01 bad. Don't try to intentionally slip in a post after :00.
:stare: You are NOT allowed to post your Role PM in the thread. Do not reference it, explicitly or in a way that bends around the spirit of "don't discuss your Role PM." Do not speculate what is in someone's Role PM, do not refer to specific wording or formatting or whatever in your Role PM, hell I'd prefer if you refrain from saying "Role PM" altogether. That's not what this game is about.
:stare: Private communication with other players is forbidden, unless I explicitly tell you otherwise. Don't privately discuss the game with living players, dead players, or people who are not in the game.
:stare: Do not edit your posts for any reason. If you edit a post containing a vote, that vote will be rendered invalid.
:stare: Do not quote any private communications or post any QuickTopic links or Discord servers in the public game thread. Do not directly quote anything I say to you in private (especially your Role PM and/or night results). Don't say "Zack told me my action failed," instead say "my action failed". The first is a rule break, the second is fine. Don't screenshot anything either, obviously.
:stare: Unless I explicitly tell you otherwise, if you are dead do not post at all or thank any posts. On that note, I don't care if living players thank posts, though please don't do so outside of the legal posting times. (i.e. if you can't post in the thread, don't thank posts either). Don't abuse this.
:stare: You are expected to vote each day, and post at least once each Day phase - more is preferred, but that is the absolute minimum. If you fail to meet those requirements, I reserve the right to remove you from the game immediately (via substitution or modkill).
:stare: Do not talk about substitutions or modkills in the thread. Don't speculate on it at all. The extent you can acknowledge this is that it happened, e.g. "I thought Bob was town but his replacement Steve rubs me the wrong way" is okay. Examples of rule breaks would be "I think Bob subbed out because blah" or "Bob should sub out" or "I wonder why Bob subbed out".
:stare: Do not ask me any questions in the game thread, I will ignore them. Whether it is a genuine question, an attempt to angleshoot yourself clear or derpclear yourself, I don't care - don't do it. Ask me in private and I will answer publicly and/or privately as appropriate.
:stare: Treat your fellow players with respect. Don't be a dick. This is, after all, a social game people play for fun. Keep it within the game, don't get personal, chill out. Follow the forum rules. If you feel yourself getting tilted or about to post some shit you know is pushing it, close the tab and step away for a bit to cool down.

PHASES
~ Day is 48 hours, Night is 24 hours. Day ends at 8:00 PM US Eastern (https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html?iso=20210219T010000&p1=179). I'll post timers in the thread and with tallies for reference. The deadline for night actions is 7:30 PM US Eastern, to allow myself time to process everything in time. Expect the update and day start to be at 8:00 PM, but I may post it a few minutes early if everything's ready.
~ Vote tallies will be posted throughout the Day as I am able. Players are free to make and post their own tallies (including novice's plugin, if you can find it and get it to work), but I will not use them and they should be taken with a grain of salt. Do not intentionally post misleading tallies. If I make an error, please contact me privately.
~ During the Day, players vote for each other in the format Vote: Zapp. Vote tags are mandatory (Vote: < player >), as this is how I will tally votes in my spreadsheet - a simple bolding will not suffice and I'll miss it. Bold text is preferable. Unvoting is not required - simply make a new vote. If you want do unvote without re-voting anyone, Vote: Unvote. I don't care about color. Voting for No Lunch / No Elimination / Sleep is allowed. To be clear, you have to manually type it out, there's no button to press that inserts a Vote tag.
~ Whoever has the most votes at the end of the Day will die. No early ending for majority, with the exception of mustlunch. Tied votes will be decided randomly.
~ In mustlunch / LYLO, votes will be locked and the phase ends if someone receives a majority of the votes. This means that you can only vote once, and you can't change your vote. I'll remind you if/when it's relevant, of course.
~ There may or may not be abilities which can be used during the Day phase.
~ During the Night phase, players send in night actions if they have an ability which requires one.

I think if Esooa was Dolby's partner, Dolby would have been more likely to just drop a townread on Esooa for the reasons I mentioned rather than try to bring credibility of "I read a recent scum game of hers" into it. It's light, but just from the way it's presented etc, the reason just feels more TMI-y than partner-y.

I last played Yugioh 10 to 15 years ago, on one of those browser-based platforms that allowed one to have any card or deck. I checked the state of play recently, and there have been so many new cards and mechanics and metas introduced, most based on the principle of constantly rotating cards through the hand and the deck(s) and the graveyard and back, to the point that a really good deck can deploy for the player at least one mega-powerful monster on the very first turn - while also negating any potential deleterious effects the opponent's cards can muster. Most games end in the equivalent to a fool's mate or scholar's mate in chess.
Contemporary Mafia is not that, but the experience of it has become like facing down one of those optimized new decks. Come kick my ass.
90% chance there turns out to be a scummy entanglement in all the mason fluff, but no one will remember to look until endgame.

This seems like a really fake read on Dolby's part to me.

Felt that Esooa was trying to be more accomodating to other people to specifically avoid clash based on playstyle between her and other people. Also kinda got the same vibe that I got from 4mask in the light game I played with them that when she's scum she's a bit more mush up to people on an individual level

I swore I wasn't gonna get into the swing of things until tomorrow.
Let me elaborate: I think Esooa has been ~marginally townie on her own. She's been able to keep up with the volume of :daisy:posting despite a pretty insular playerlist and doesn't seem to be forcing much. Can these things come from a mafioso? Certainly, but they're a) light regardless, and b) not the reason why Dolby was repping his read. Dolby bothered to cite meta, which seems fake and forced, and feels like he did it to acquire credibility. The post sticks out, in a bad way.
I think it's a very viable world that Dolby is scum and TMI'd Esooa as town, just from the way he repped that read and presented it to the thread.
I disagree; feel like it's just TWTBAW, and that if Dolby were mafia he'd be more self-conscious about it!!!!
Granted I just read the posts in a matter of minutes and not stretched out over what... an hour and a half or something? So maybe I need to go back and look at timestamps because perhaps it feels differently more spread out, but I feel like that's the sort of thing where you just see a towny being !!!!!!!!!!! about solving, which I totally can get!!!

ok, this was something that I forgot about his D1. I just remember the TES/TL tunnel and screaming at Ace to shield TL and pressure GH over it
Monty not being noticeably whack in his first post is probably good in and of itself. Last time I saw him as maf he was visibly furry, and this was a multiball game where he could make himself good better by solving for his opponents.
But I was outrageously bad at solving for the other team, even compared to town baseline. The failure was perfectly genuine. And I wanted that alliance.

I have a bad habit of scumreading GH for innocuous behaviors, so I'm not voting him, but Nuzelock was my best read ever on him: I could tell within 2 posts that a D1 push he had on a paragon of towniness was incompatible with the town GH I normally sideeyed. I then fumbled the case and he carried his team to victory, but that's neither here nor there. Nor am I saying that Dolbster is a paragon as of now. Anyone who fancies themselves a meta genius can scroll back in Gameroom archives for Pokemon Nuzelock D1, GH vs. khaan, and see for themselves.

My smooth brain says that the sketchiest post in the thread was GH multiquoting all of esooas posts to show that it was too early/not enough real information for Dolby to make a real read based off of it instead of just saying it but it's like a 2/10 on the sketchy scale

I think if Esooa was Dolby's partner, Dolby would have been more likely to just drop a townread on Esooa for the reasons I mentioned rather than try to bring credibility of "I read a recent scum game of hers" into it. It's light, but just from the way it's presented etc, the reason just feels more TMI-y than partner-y.

GH's focus on that and straight up going to say that me and Esooa probably aren't teammed feels way to much like the Wazza and TL tunnels in Ice Cream for me to be comfortable with that
I don't necessarily agree with this but also this feels really towny hype!!!!!!!! Though I'm not sure how comparable this read is so early (and without a team to egg him on) and should probably make an actual GH read at some point... I'd like to say that I don't think he'd come out this blatantly as mafia, minimum third time in a row? Put like, fifty asterisks beside that read though!!!!!
Fun fact: I was going to make a case on GH at SoD based on something funny I noticed about his account, but decided not to after seeing how... despondent he was after team game!! :p
