Welcome dofod!
GreatherKahn, you can't be more right: that game is a neverending one. Probably the best playability for your money. Ever. The thrill of battles, the false alliances, the spies!!!!

O.K., Now is the time for me to participate here.
Some months ago, i bought for 6.99€ MTW+VI, just because i've heard that STW was good somne years ago.
I didn't regret this, and played since then nearly solely this game, and since then i'm reading this forums.
Well, today I decidet to register here, although nearly everything I could tell, or wanted to ask is still inside here.~:)

Shogun pwned the entire RTS game roster at the time because of its atmosphere, MTW added variety and tactical sophistication to that. The couple are still unsurpassed.

I'm not sure if Junior members can post in the Monastery. Don't worry though, make a few posts on a regular basis in the other fora and within a week or two, maybe three you will be promoted to member. If you want to open a history related thread, you can do it here, in the Entrance Hall. One of the mods will move it to the Monastery later on.

Hello genmac, Ronnec, Forlorn Hope and other newcomers, welcome to the .Org!
Read Mithandir's sticky on posting etiquette and stick to it (lame pun intended for didactic purposes) so you won't get into trouble. Post some well-considered messages, help others whenever you can, and you guys wil be regular members before you can say 'total war'.
And then of course, there is Martok. :dozey:
This is something we have to explain to all newcomers, as it gets more and more difficult to keep a lid on it. It's a sad thing to see a long-standing and valuable member like him slowly but surely lose his marbles.
I suspect he secretly worships camels, but can't bring himself to admit it. ~;)There you have it. In his doddering dementia he has initiated some sort of cult around the foul four-legged fornicators, and we're all supposed to join and say oooh and ahh every time one of them craps on God's altar. Ignore him if you can, or just smile in his general direction and mind your own business. :sweatdrop:

Like a mod. I'm creating a mod focused on the middle east, from turkey to north India. I haven't announced/advertised it. Once I'm completely perfected and finished the campaign map (hopefully!) I will announce this mod and begin recruiting people here and TWC for things like skinning, banners and other more creative things I really can't do myself.

I'm kind of wary about advertising or announcing the mod. I want to take my time to finish the campaign map in absolute detail first. Announcing it and gathering team members would put too much pressure on me now as some will be more enthusiastic and alot more time than I would since I'm in school.
Also once the map is finished I will generate a lot more confidence in the possibility of the mod and will hopefully attract real modders with the proper skinning and coding skills.

Greetings browncoats. I think that you've found the right place for the wargame/tw thing. Some people here must have a few 8 stars generals in their ancestors.
...
What do you mean "8 stars butchers"?

Hey all...
I posted a couple quick times with questions about 2 weeks ago before I installed the latest version of EB over Rome 1.5. I had not intended on playing MTW2 yet becuase I figured that my PC simply could not handle the game and that it wouldn't be worth my time until I bought a new PC next month. I was wrong :2thumbsup:
I'm 25 years old as of yesterday, live in New York, USA and have been playing Total War for about 3.5 years now. I love the flavor of this site and love talking total war with other fans.
As for MTW2: I am very glad I decided to take a chance on this with my current PC...it runs it sufficiently with Large armies set up. I'm about 38 turns into an HRE campaign, 17 regions, and a MAJOR war on the table. I'm currently at war with the Polish, Milanese, Vinetians, and I've had the Papacy blocking Florence for about 6 turns. I'm the "kingdom" that nobody on the map trusts :laugh4: Bottom line, I'm loving the game. It's eating a LOT of my time and the 225 turn thing really is not an issue for me (as I thought it would be) since every turn is so much more in depth than previous installments of the series. I find myself taking, occassionally, HOURS strategizing over one turn and all of the different things I need to do. It's right up my alley and I'm glad I'm on board.
Well, just a simple introduction...This should have been done much sooner but again, once I installed MTW2, that's all that's really gone on with my PC since heh. I'll definitely be around and for a while at that. I'll be on MTW2 for years heh...

Well, yes. I've started the third cycle (Gui de Clairbois), and it is quite interesting as well. But it appears that after the "discovery" of the historical period, one can sense that the author's opinion is strongly present: for instance Bertrand Du Guesclin is almost a monster there (while being a great general in MTW!!!)

Starting playing Europa Barbarum awhile back (after playing RTR for at least a year), and I came to this site to seek out answers to a few bugs that popped up. Thus far 1/3 of them have been answered (but I've only really been searching for a very short period of time).
So I figured, while I'm here, I might as well offer up my huge tomes of useless knowledge. If you want to see some of this firsthand (without having to wait), I'm a regular at CivFanatic Forums and Armchair General Forums.

Greetings members of the Org! I don’t think I have really introduced my self so here I am;)
My real mane is of course Eirik!!, I live in Norway and in about a month I’ll reach the age of 17. I’m very interested and fascinated by history, especially Medieval and Ancient history like Roman and Greek. Therefore the TW-series have been a natural choice as favorite games for many years. Although I used to play World of Warcraft for over a year, (khazzak-alliance) that time is luckily over=) Nothing against those who still play but for me, I guess you could said I became too addicted hehe.
Anyway, I have already been enjoying reading what people are discussing and writing at this forum for a long time, so I guess I owe most of you guys a big thanks=)

Well Norwegian and Sweedish is quite similar, take a look:
-Wälkommen! Jag talar bara lite svenska, men inte norska: men det är nästa samma sak? (swe)
-Velkommen! Jeg snakker bare litt svensk_, men ikke norsk_: men det er nesten samme sak? (nor)
Btw he asked Nor and Swe it almost the same.
However, Danish are even more simular to Norwegian when it comes to TEXT, (they speak like they've swallowed a potato which is stuck halfway down their throat, no offence hehe, just a national opinion) Nor and Swe are therefore much more alike when pronouncing the words hehe, aka the way we speak.
Thanks again:bow:

Hello Caerfanan!
Hej paa dig/Hei paa deg! :2thumbsup: (I don't have the nordic "a-round above", I was told to use a double "a" then)
You know anyone in the area?
No unfortunately not. I'm friend with an (ex-) couple of Norwegians who have lived in France a few years. I met them in Paris. She's now in Oslo (where she was from) and he's in Bergen (where he was from). I might make a trip to Bergen in June and maybe in Oslo next summer... They started to teach me a few words in Norwegian, but I forgot most of them, because....
Howcome you can speak swedish?:laugh4: nice!
I started learning swedish 'cause my girlfriend is swedish (from Göteborg).
Well I wouldn't say that I speak swedish, I'm learning, very, very slowly. I might now about a hundred words or so, and I can make a few sentences and have fun with 3 years old children...
Well Norwegian and Sweedish is quite similar, take a look:
-Wälkommen! Jag talar bara lite svenska, men inte norska: men det är nästa samma sak? (swe)

Yup I heard that hot potato int the mouth stuff!! :laugh4:
I knew it was pretty similar (I used to boast to the norwegian girl with every single word I learnt in swedish and she always clearly understood everything). But I wasn't expecting it to be this similar... wow.
So what TW games do you play? Have you played to the "old" games (STW, MTW?) or only the more recent ones?

Correct Caerfanan:2thumbsup: aa=å.
Rome: Total War, was the first game in the series which I lay my hands on when it came out in 2004 wasn't it? So to me, ROME is what I clasify as the "classic" and original TW. Can't wait until there will be a Rome mod with M2TW engine. I've a copy of Barbarian Invasion aswell (loved it!) But I have never tryed Shogun I'm afraid:embarrassed: Just some experience with Medieval I.. So I guess I got more experience with the recent ones because I was too young hehe, one day I'm sure i will play them both for real:yes:
Enjoyed the defferent Mods to Rome though:laugh4:

Well, being young is not a flaw!! I hope you may have the occasion to play on the "old" games, but RTW has given quite a change, you might be surprised by the campaign map. From what I heard, the campaign AI is more intelligent int the old ones, and the battle AI better in the new ones. But I didn't see that myself yet. I just played a couple of hours on a new campaign in RTW. I quite like the added details int the communities' management, but wondered about the governors having to be from the family, though, because it might create a lack of generals.... I'm completely stuck in the Viking campaign of MTW. I keep playing viking campaigns. 7 factions, 40 provinces, I can't get tired of it!!!
I'll have to make a normal campaign at least once, I'll say!
Welcome Cata_Tank_Guy#3, Erik Bloodaxe, General Xtianus Elaxus and Twilightblade!

May your stays be most enjoyable.
Greetings fellow forum members: I’m told we need to introduce ourselves here, so let me get started. My name is John and my handle is Zoy. I’ve been playing Rome: Total War Barbarian Invasion for about a year, and playing Medieval II currently, although I am new to this forum.
I started with the Total War: Rome and Barbarian Invasion expansion kit. I found the BI game thoroughly absorbing.
I've studied Rome as a hobby for a few years now, and when I found this game I picked it up warily because I wasn't sure if it would just be a another Age of Empires or Civilization type game with a 'Rome' label slapped on the box to draw in a few history-minded gamers.
Rome was a fun romp, and the battles provided a game play option I especially liked, but towards the end of the campaign, the game lost some of its flavor.
BI, however, was an all out thrill, especially during my first game (naturally, I chose Western Rome--and I did not intend to see the eternal city sacked by barbarians). Heh. I played the West three times before I came up with a strategy that began to work, and that was after playing the Eastern Romans for half-dozen or so games to regain my composure and confidence.
I was pleasantly surprised at how well the developers took this period of late antiquity and brought it alive. Not only does BI give one a sense of the difficulties the Roman Empire faced in the later centuries, it provides one challenging task after another while providing hours of enjoyment and thoughtful entertainment.
Until Medieval II came along, I would have said that BI was probably the best history-based strategy games I've ever played. It is still one of my favorites, but Medieval II has kept me pre-occupied since it came out. I've played the English, Spanish and the Eastern Romans (Byzantine Empire) thus far, although I prefer playing the Byzantine faction. But that is probably more because of my interest in Rome--it is only natural to want to see the empire continue.
Thank you to the administrators for their efforts on this site. I have browsed a number of the forums and enjoy reading about some of the experiences of others. I look forward to contributing myself as time goes by.

Hello everyone,
wanted to introduce myself a little. Have been lurking about here the last few years, have been actively playing the Total War series since I picked up a copy of the Shogun Total War back in the day. I thought that it might be a good time to step out and become an active member. Plus I've always wanted to give my input and strategies in winning the games.
My favorite is still Rome and MTW with the Viking Invasion addition. Looking forward to this all and hopefully I'll get someone to play against in these games, the AI is getting a little too predictable.

Good on your father Caerfanan, mine plays C&C Red Alert occasionally.
Yes, my bro and I were surprised. He went retiring and told us he had bought a computer, so we tried giving him Civ III, then RTW, he plays a lot! That's crazy!!! As if he were living his computer-games days, but late!

Welcome Captain Vulcan Firebird.
Hi, peeps! I'm a RTW-er.
Noting the comments about members' dads playing, I'll mention that I'm a granddad and I built my first machine in 1979, starting with a bare circuit board, a soldering iron and 100s of components. I've been playing computer games ever since! :beam:

Fresh blood always good to see! Welcome Mercoviking! Welcome Hasdrubal!
Hi all. Just had my 34th birthday last Friday so here's another one "too old" to be playing computer games. I played the MTW and just started RTW and really enjoy them both. Just wish the computer didn't field huge armies of peasants and other junk units.
Welcome Harve, Eastern Red, Owain ap Sion, Captain Vulcan Firebird, bugrit and aargh57 ~

Welkom aargh57! Get yourself a sexy Mod, so the computer would field nice units as well as you, Europa Barbarorum is the star nowadays, RTR7 to come as soon as you'd get bored with it or even earlier :2thumbsup:.
To Harve, Eastern Red, Owain ap Sion, Captain Vulcan Firebird, bugrit, & arrgh57: Welcome to the Org, guys! Pull up a chair and make yourselves at home. ~

As Arbaces recommended a mod for RTW, I will recommend two mods for MTW: Caravel's Pocket Mod (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=75388) and VikingHorde's XL Mod (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=31201). Both mods improve on vanilla MTW/VI, and they both remove peasants from the game. As a result, the AI generally fields armies of higher quality. ~:)

Hello everybody. So many newcomers today! :beam:
Well there is stuff which is not about the TW games, but the main purpose stays around those.
When you are a member, you'll see new areas where you will discuss of something else thant the TW games. The NEXT TW games, for instance! :laugh4:

Hello all, my name is Keith and I live just outside the Washington DC. limits. I am part architect, part civil engineer working for a design build firm involved with improving our military's housing for its soldiers. I have been playing RTW Gold for about 6 months now.
