Hello! I'm a new member, I just joined awhile ago. :beam:
Welcome Lucius Julius and scriptor incertus ~
Greetings all. I teach World History in a high school and I have been playing the TW games since Shogun but only recently registered at TWC. With all of the chaos at TWC, I thought it might be a good idea to register here. I have no idea what is going on over there and I don't really care. I just want a reliable forum where I can find info on historically accurate mods and discuss the game and history in general with other like minded individuals.
If you're into history, make sure to check out the Monastery (it's in the miscealleanous part of the forums). You might not be able to post there yet, but within a few weeks you'll be promoted to full member and be able to participate on the discussions. Meanwhile, you can always open a thread in here and ask the staff to move it to the Monastery.
If you like good history related fiction, check the Mead Hall as well. There are some pretty good stories over there.
Anyway, enjoy your stay ~

Hi everybody,
I've been stealing tactics from the site for a while but now I thought I might have a go at suggesting some!
I'm mainly a MTW player although I do play RTW and STW from time to time.

Hello everyone I was using TWC until the fall because totalwar.org is blocked as a game site at work. I therefore logically assumed that the forums where blocked. Good thing the filters/fascists are too stupid to catch forums.totalwar.org :laugh4: Thanks for having me.
To scriptor incertus, Lucius Julius, Don Esteban, Rafaelinho, Vanquisher, & Doighiuil: Welcome, guys! Make yourselves at home. ~ Just mind your P's and Q's, and know that donations of camel feed are always appreciated. :egypt:
Hi all, new to this forum and to the Total War series. I am playing M2TW at present (for about a week I think) and its a steep learning curve but loving it.

Look forward to contributing to this community in any way I can.

Hi Don Esteban, I see you are already imparting your knowledge of M:TW in the Main Hall. Excellent, that's the spirit of this website.
And welcome Rafaelinho, kramt, Vanquisher, Doighiuil and Ivan the Terrible!
Don't accept any poisoned sweets from TosaInu or camel rides from the one they call Mithrandir, and you will all be fine.
And you asked why I know some Bavarian, Barbarian? I suppose it’s because I love Germany, in particular its modern writers and film makers. I have been to Germany many times in my school days and I used to watch a lot of German tv in those days. I still occasionally watch German tv (your news programs are exceptionally good) though I hardly watch the tube anymore.
To be honest the Berliner dialect is my favourite. Tja mein Jnädijer, det werdense wohl jestatten müssen. But I am no stranger to the Bayerische Rundfunk and in Bairn hob i mi imma sauguèt gfielt und zamgramd gsoffa.
The rest, as they say in Bavaria, is Gschicht’.
Jetzt muss i moa aafs Haisl. Hawediare, Barbare!

Hello!
I am entirely new to those forum-concept and wish to greet everyone around.
I have got also one question about PMing. Is it enough to click the "submit"- button, or do I have to make another step? Is my personal message sent when I press "submit"?
Greetings, and please excuse my unusedness to speaking in english.
Hello all new people of the org!( i hate the word nOObs)
Green Tea, dont worry about the english problem, as long as people can read it without being utterly confused, no one really cares.:2thumbsup:

Welcome Chosun, green tea and Seyduna. Don't worry, green tea, your English seems fine!
And welcome back Grendy, youngest award-winner at the .Org! :laugh4:
I believe the big TosaInu himself is going to mail you -- or so he wrote in a HOF 2006 thread.
Congrats either way! :2thumbsup:
This morning I tried to post a question on EB0.8 and found that I couldn't log in.
After a brief panic that I had forgotten my password, I realised that I didn't actually exist here yet. I have been coming here so long (2 years) that I forgot I had never registered.
Anyhow - I have now renounced Lurker-hood. I will try my best to make some sort of contribution to the community here.
Hello ... new refugee from twcenter.net, I was instructed to come here by Green Tea, a new member here as well. Thanks Green Tea!
I have been fairly active in the RTR forums prior.
I have played the TW series since its inception w/ STW, but didn't know modding even existed until RTW & RTR in particular ... man there is some really creative talent out there making these games so much better then they already were ... and I really appreciate all their hard work!
Anyway I hope to enjoy my stay with TOTALWAR.ORG!
Welcome Juvenal and Dutch81 to the tw.org site!
We hope you stay here.

Hello Everyone!
As a new member I want to say thanks to all involved for creating such a great site dedicated to the world of Total War games.
About myself: (and I'm probably older than most of you): I started 'war' gaming while serving in the U.S. Navy in the 1970's. In those days my cohorts and I would play a myriad of board games created by the Avalon Hill Company. How far we've come since those days of pushing cardboard pieces around on a hexagon grid board-game top.
Heck, I even remember being excited when the first ColecoVision 'Pong' console games became available for home television sets. My first computer was a Commordore 64. Since that time, I've been advancing with the ever-progressing technology platforms by acquiring a new computer about every five years. Without question, as the PC's have advanced technologically, so have the games that can be played on them - to the betterment and enrichment of our gaming experiences.
I live in central Illinois, USA and work in sales for a company that manufactures traffic safety products.
I received Rome: Total War as a Christmas gift in December, 2005. I played the game for about six months before diverting my attention elsewhere. I recently re-installed RTW and am again enjoying the great attributes associated with this game. (BTW: Rome TW is the only TW game I've ever played).
I consider myself to be a reasonably decent strategist - but I admit there were some elements about the game that I didn't totally understand. That's when I went searching and found this outstanding website. Thanks to you people, I am now able to dispatch those pesky barbarians in a more speedy & forthright manner.
Thanks again for all those affiliated with this site - I'll be sure to visit often.
All the best... and happy gaming!

Stuperman, I congratulate you on finally de-lurking! Allow me to officially say "welcome aboard". ~

And to LuckyDog Trojan, I extend a warm welcome as well. It's always a privilege to have a true grognard (not to mention an Avalon Hill "graduate") among the Org's ranks! :bow:Aye, you can say that again. Wooden Ships & Iron Men here - class of 1984, first with the little cardboard pieces, then with hand-painted model ships. Won Trafalgar as Nelson in a demonstration game with 93 models, including 6 British frigates and a precise copy of the Bucentaure. The first commander who lost his ship (and was thus out of the game) was given the job of smoking fags and blowing their smoke across the decks of Bucentaure. No non-smoking crap in those days, and for what we were about to recieve, the Lord made us truly grateful!
Welcome aboard, Sir LuckyDog!
Welcome LuckyDog Trojan ~

We need to keep that quiet otherwise the orgahs will realise that we've got no real camels which would expose us as frauds and lead to newspaper articles like this :listen: :
FAKE CAMELS SCANDAL AT ORG
Moderator Mithrandir and Assistant Moderator Martok arrested at centre of "cash for camels" row.
Police raided the .org late last night and seized a 100% polyester camel suit, 10 moderator turbans, an old toilet seat and a ginger wig. A witness outside, Mr Caravel from the Main Hall, commented "mwuhahahhahahahaaaaaa" as he was lead off in a straight jacket with 20 copies of the violent video game "Medieval Total War". After raiding Caravels home police found amateur mod making equipment. Detective Sergeant Somebody, handling the case said, "Caravel has been linked to Mithrandir and Martok, he was close, very close to modding Armenian Heavy Cavalry to all factions, this could have been a lot worse, a very dangerous individual is now safely off the streets"...

Wooden Ships & Iron Men is an A/H game I remember well. My shipmates and I spent many a night burning the 'midnight oil' playing that one.
The first Avalon Hill title I bought was "Tactics II". From then on I was 'hooked'. Played so many of their games over the years that I can't even begin to remember all the titles. Overall, I think my all-time favorite A/H game was "Third Reich". It's too bad that many of these title-concepts weren't ported over to the PC. I know that a few were - but they weren't done very well.
AndresTheCunning: Atari 2600 you say? Ah yes... the memories. Neat then... but I'm really glad that we've advanced WAY beyond that level.

Recently bought MTW_VI (I know I'm several years behind) and I am totally obsessed. A friend has given me MTWII and I have not even loaded it yet because I am having so much fun with the original. I am starting on my first mod and this site has been a huge help. Starkhorn's adding new factions guide has been the biggest help yet. I am hoping that I can get some answers to further questions I have as I go along. Thanks to everybody who makes this site so great.

@Lucky Dog Trojan: yeah we've advanced pretty well. But I remember those days when I as staring at a few blips and dots on a television screen, playing those great games, completely forgetting the time, my mom yelling at me a hundred times that my food was getting cold... *sigh*

Wooden Ships & Iron Men is an A/H game I remember well. (..) It's too bad that many of these title-concepts weren't ported over to the PC.Imagine a Total War version of WS&IM, a campaign game of late eighteenth and Napoleonic naval warfare. Battles on the high seas (or in ports) including signals, maneuvering under sail, gunnery, boarding, valour and moral bonuses and penalties for hull hits, fallen masts, etcetera. Campaigns played on an RTW-like campaign map in which the player (individually against the AI, or against another player) can recreate the naval campaigns of those days: a 'Seven Years War campaign' involving Yorktown/Chesapeake and Cadiz, an 'Indian campaign' covering the exploits of a Dupleix, Clive, Suffren and Hughes, and of course a 'Napoleonic campaign'.
After having played such a game, I think I could die in peace.

Howdy all
Nice looking forum you folks have here although I am unlikely to be able to enjoy it very much as I am unable to get the game to play on any of my home computers.
It seems that the newer the PC the less chance of this game playing.
I have a new Core 2 fairly high end and my son has a Pent D duo core we can neither one of us get this game to play.
It loads on the HD just fine and we can test the video config and it passes but when we go start the game it starts the red line and when it gets to the end we are back to the desktop!
I first saw this game not too long ago and was really impressed with the depth of it and so found copies for under $20 for my son and I thinking we would be able to spend hours in battle
I have tried tech support which seems to be non existant as when I go to the Activision site they claim no responsibility for it and send me to Sega. When I go to Sega they have absolutely no help there at all and I have not recieved an answer to any of my emails.
I have found a few blurbs on the net about going back and installing old drivers but this is not an option as my PC is new and uses a raid controller for the newer SATA HD's and also I have to use it for video rendering and other games that cant run on some far outdated drivers :wall:
I was thinking about purchasing MTW2 but am very hesitant about wasting a hundred dollars ( ONe for me and one for my son ) to get a game that will not even load up.
Sorry to make such a long post here but you folks are the only place that I could find where many are actually playing this game.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thank you
Welcome Billy_the_Mountain to the org!

Hi, welcome to the forums,
Check the config required for M2TW, if yours is within the requirements then my advice would be to go for it.
There should be better tech support for that game than RTW.
Could you post your system information? (graphic card, etc)
Greetings, Warmaster Horus. Good to have you aboard! ~
And welcome to you as well, Billy the mountain! ~ If you and your son are having difficulties getting the game to run, I strongly urge you to visit the Apothecary (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=15) -- we've got good people there who are experienced in fixing these issues and can probably help you out. Hello newcomers!
Read Mithrandir's sticky on .Org Etiquette (never mind the camel smell, it will wear off), post something helpful, useful or considerate whenever you can, and you will be regular members (with full forum access) soon enough.
And Billy the mountain and sons, I think it's a shame that you can't play some of the TW games on your PC's. And it is a real shame that you get so little customer support.
But that hasn't stopped thousands of others from playing the games.
There has to be a way around this. Don't just look in the Apothecary, post your problem(s) there. We have whizz kids, mods and tweakers by the dozen who will bend over backwards to help people. That's what this site is about.
Good luck! :charge:

To all the new members I wish you a warm welcome, a ~:grouphug: and a slice of virtual pie.
I am SadCat. Loved RTW once it was patched a few times. Played with the RTR Mods installed most of the time. Now I am in to M2TW and have 1.1 patch on it. Hope there is a 1.2 soon. I use a computer but once you start talking about the software I get lost. SadCat:book:

Hello everyone ^_^ New member, reporting.
I just bought Medieval 2 about two weeks, and I love it! In fact, it has consumed all the free hours of my life...
After lurking all the while, I thought I should join up so that I can jaw with others who enjoy it as much as I do :laugh4:
I just completed my first vanilla 1.1 M/M long campaign as Spain, going to introduce myself to the Turks tonite.
Hey SadCat and Arcturion. I hope you both have fun here and playing Medieval 2.

Hi. I've been a wargamer for more years than I care to remember but I'm very much a new boy with RTW. I got started "helping" my son and have now moved on to experiencing my very own disasters as both Carthage and TGC. I have already got some useful advice from the site, so thanks! :2thumbsup:

Hello one and all, I bought the game a month ago and haven't had much time to play it as yet. I was a huge fan of Shogun Total War and Medieval though. Rome - just got it at the same time as Med2 so haven't really tried it out.
One little problem (and this may not be the right place to post it I realise) but every time I send a spy into a town the game crashes which makes the whole exercise rather tedious. Currently I'm running version1.1. I had a brief look for this issue but had no luck.
Anyway, see you all around the boards.
Cheers,

Yes, that is Klingon for "Welcome aboard, fellow idiot". It takes all sorts to make a great website, USS Sparta, and you seem definitely one of them.
Mind you, we have various forums for games other then the Total War series. The Arena (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=46) is for review and discussion of computer games, the Gameroom (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=156) is where members convene to play online games together.

Imagine a Total War version of WS&IM, a campaign game of late eighteenth and Napoleonic naval warfare.
Adrian II: In addition to WS&IM, I can think off all types of strategic genres that would probably work well with the TW series. 1st or 2nd world war, the American Revolutionary or Civil war, etc. are just a few broad-based examples that come to mind.
Welcome to the Org, Maurus and César Victor! Make yourself at home. ~
@USS Sparta: Qa'pla! A hearty "welcome aboard" from a fellow Trekkie. :vulcan: ~
Hello everybody! I have been a fan of this series since the first Medieval, and have enjoyed playing Viking Invasion, Rome, and Barbarian Invasion since then. I did not get a chance to play Alexander, but I have recently got Medieval 2. I am enjoying that game so far, though I will play on the lowest performance settings until I get a new computer later this year and I can't wait to see how the game looks on newer hardware. Excellent looking forums here, and I am pleased to be here.
Welcome Saulot to the org!
Thank you! BTW, if you don't mind me asking, where do people get the banners that you and others have in their signature, which show certain factions from the different games?
Hey César Victor, STW was/is a brilliant game, and please do ask for advice.

I went to the UserCP section, I chose a picture in the Avatar section (a part of the war declaration in MTW). Thing is, my avatar seems to be a Celtic warrior (which I like), and I've seen that you were all having fancy TW games general pictures as avatars, and I didn't see any in the avatar section...

Any ideas?

Um... does anyone know if there's something stopping me from playing a mafia game?
It has something to do with your Junior Member status I guess. You can post in almost every part of the Org, except in the miscealleanous section. This means you cannot post in the Tavern. The Gameroom is part of the Tavern.
To become a member you have to post on a regular basis, respect the rules and you'll be promoted in a week or 2 (maybe 3).
If you registered because of the mafia games on the recommandation of one of our members, you might consider sending a PM to Sasaki Kojiro (he is the moderator of the Gameroom) or to TosaInu (the Admin of the site) and ask them if they can help you out.

Gentlemen-
I was referred here from the M2TW Forum. I got TW as I have been very interested in warfare of the Renaissance for many years. As soon as I saw the Battle of Pavia Demo Vid I bought the game. I've really enjoyed the interplay of the various weapons types. But there are some problems I've noticed. I was advised there is Mod geared towards the Renaissance. If some one could point me in that direction I'd appreciate it.
Thanks !
Welcome AuGuStUs619, CaesarCS, BioHazard and King of Kings. :bounce:
Frundsberg, hey yes there are a number of mods all in development. I think you might be referring to the P&M mod.
Welcome BioHazard, King of Kings and Frundsberg ~
@Caius: now I understand why we haven't seen Mithrandir for a while. That outlaw must be on the run :laugh4:
Well, I saw Martok and Caravel WANTED posters everywhere too.

Hey Kryptonicus!
You'll see how these games are crazy! I spent a big part of my evening yesterday on a very big battle. Lost with honors and one tactical mistake. I'll post about it today!
Welcome Kryptonitus. :beam:

@Michael: I'm not sure if it's even possible to mod Medieval 2 to start after 1080. If it is, however, then this (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=173) is the place that you'll find the answer. Good luck!

Hello, just joined the forum. One day at wal-mart, I noticed a neat looking computer game entitled: Medieval Total War for a measly ten dollars. A day that changed my life!
