Hello everyone...

I have been reading this forum for a good while now and finally decided to register. My history with Total War games started years ago with Shogun, continued with Medieval & Viking Invasion and finally Rome Total War.

This game series is one of my all time favorites. This type of games have always been close to my heart... all the way from the ancient Sun Tzu's Art of War in the early 1980's.

well, to be sure, original picture is not my work. somebody else did it, i just use picture and with easy work with colour reduction and brightness get it darker(although im not darker) and red/black. for me it looks quite strong, girl on throne, nice position, and hood, with red eyes, that i believe u cannot see cuz its too small now.

Hey guys my name is Matthew and I've played Total War since the first release of Shogun Total War. I was the leader of the Silent Assassins and we won 3 CWCs and the first TWPL. I have been away from TW for about 5 months now and I plan on returning to gaming when MTW2 comes out. One of your moderators (Ichi) was a member of the Silent Assassins. I am not a part of a clan now and for now I am fine with just talking on the forums. :)

hello!

i am stingerhs, and i hail from the state of South Carolina.

i enjoy a lot of different types of gaming genres, but my preference is in both FPS and RTS. right now, i've been doing a lot of experimentation with modding RTW. otherwise, you can catch me on the public BF2 servers whenever time permits.

outside of gaming, i'm currently attending a university for computer science, and i'm in my sophmore year.

Still coming to grips with MTW, but enjoying it immensely (especially when my spies do identify a secret vice - some of those are hilarious!).

So far have tried out Byzantines, English, Danes, and HRE....I think I prefer either English or HRE of those 4...thought I'd have a go at the Italians or Poles next....any thoughts or suggestions?

LoL, dkdnt...friends of yours? Excellent!

Im speaking this with good intentions, so please dont be offended.
when you write "Dobro došao Andrija", you actualy say ''welcome Andrija", not just "welcome". Andrija is just my name, and duke wrote greeting to me. so you should just say "dobrodoshao" exactly as i wrote it, it is one word, and literaly it means welcome.

actualy this is something you have to thank duke, becouse he put link to .org on one of the most popular serbian forum about pc games. and fans of totalwar saw it, and here they are, and im one of them.

Thanks for the tip KukriKhan - I will give the Italians a go....looks like a challenging position to start from on the map.

As for vices, yes the French seem to come up with some rippers. So do the Hungarians, but for some reason the Hungarian peasants seem less likely to get upset about it...just a curious thing I have noted so far - much harder to spark a revolt with them. Come to think of it, the few Hungarians that I have met were all pretty laid back and easy going ....

Another query for the experienced folks out there - I only have MTW. Is the "Viking Invasion" add on worth tracking down? It seems to be a little hard to locate here in Australia.

Cheers & Beers

Unfortunately the answer is no. The next Total War game is going to be a Medieval: Total War remake. However, there are Shogun mods for both M:TW (quite finished) and R:TW (still in progress), and no doubt someone will make a Shogun mod for M2:TW to. If you are interested in these mods, have a look at the Samurai Wars (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=105) and Ran no Jidai (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=120) fora.

Greetings All,

Just joined the forum here a little bit ago.

I just recently purchased Medieval.
I have been a previous player of Rome and Shogun. Noth of which I loved.
Though frankly I found the challenge in Rome and Shogun to be lacking.

I am loving Medievel however.
I have already played one campaign as the French (Early Era) and another as the Welsh (Viking).
I am currently playing an early campaign of the Danes and having a good time with that. It has been a pretty exciting game.

I love the game and am looking forward to the mods and stuff.
I am very interested in the Barbarian mod for Rome but I do not want to install it and get sucked away from this game.

What is this XL mod for Medieval that I have read about, and where can I find it??

Hi there fans of Total War, I'm Equilibrium and just registered here. I guess I'm supposed to introduce myself so I'll do that. First, I'm not new to Total War and and am already registered at TWC and RTR.org; the reason why I registered is for one part because I thought about it for quite a while but mainly because I helped the EB team a little at TWC and was asked if I wanted to join their team, so here I am. I'm from Germany and of course English aint my native language so excuse me if my English is sometimes not as perfect as yours :). Also if you're form germany and like RTR you should take a look at the link in my sig, because me and a few others did a german translation for every part of the 6.x series of the mod and are currently working on the version for RTR6.3/Gold. For my real life, I'm a student, 19 years old, interested in history/soccer/pcgames and of course a great fan of the Total War series.

I'm not a theologian.

It's neither my job nor my purpose to depict a religious system as better than the others, or to classified...I'm also not of the evolutionnist school about religions ( shamanism -> polytheism -> monotheism ).
We walk on the dangerous path of historic criticism against all religions, giving a ruling place to none of them. We just try to understand the humans origins behind every religious system and to replace them in the context of history.

Now...personnaly, I trust in no gods or daemons, only in the incredible potential of mankind, for the best and the worse.

If I have to gave a personnal and subjective opinion after all, I think that I'll answer Christianism, but only because it gave _mixed with Greek philosophy_ our Occidental way of thinking, who's the first system of real Free Religion.
A true gift for humanity.

I'll be glad to speak of this furthermore but I don't think this thread is the good place, so in PM or on a special thread, why not ?
Please answer me by one of this ways, and not here, I know of experience that speaking about religion on internet conduct every time on Godwin point.

There are two ways to tell if someone replied in a forum, perhaps to a question that you asked;

(1) Remember the thread and forum, or

(2) Select a "thread subscription" from the dropdown box below the thread after you reply.

I'm here enough that I just like to check the threads. I might run into other information that is just as interesting or useful.

Glad to be here - There was a glitch with getting registered, but I suspect my e-mail was bouncing back the registration. Don't know why because it's worked fine in the past.

Anyway thanks to KukriKhan :2thumbsup: I'm online now.

Here's the reason for my registration. I've looked for the answer on this forum and another one, but no joy.

I got my son hooked on M:TW when he was home. He fired it up and tried it and liked it well enough to go out and buy it.

He has a new computer with a LCD screen. Dell 19" ultrasharp. The game runs fine, but when he goes to a battle, the screen is black. It looks like it is trying to draw in, but not able to do it. :wall:

From my nosing around on the internet, I suspect that the problem is something about the refresh rate. He has it set for 60, but I suspect the game is trying to set it higher.

Any answers for him out there? :idea2:

He is having fun with the strategy game and letting the game auto-calc the battles. But he actually bought a second copy thinking the first may have been defective. He gave the second copy to a friend, and he wants to go online against his friend.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome, Kestrel!

The main technical problem I know of with M:TW is incompatibility with newer NVidia drivers, but I think that usually causes CTD's, so this is probably something else. The best place to ask would be the apothecary https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=15, where our resident techie nerds can share their vast expertise. You should be able to post there already.

Anyway, the campaign game is great, but it's the battles I really love, so hopefully you can get that up and running soon. Good luck!

Hi Everybody!

I'm Zoltán from Hungary, my age is 17 and it can be a bit surprising but I am a devoted Total War fan. ;-)

I'm interested in military history, middle ages and pc games, so TWs are my favourite games of all time. I was almost small child when the first tw experience (Shogun) broke in my life, and I'm stil playing with this classic.

On the other hand I not only play, I do the fight i.e. I pursue karate for 5 years. This is my primary hobby, besides I play and love football, listen to music (mainly german industrial metal) and read novels (Ken Follett is the best!).

Total War sorrunds us!

Heh. German industrial rocks, just as that`s said(though my experience with that sort of music limits itself to Rammstein). :2thumbsup: Welcome indeed.

but i never had the internet to get online,:embarassed: then i got MTW when that came out and i enjoyed that then just a year ago i got online then it was like wow and enjoyed meny heavy defeats.

Well putting val on your troops helped and using pavs insted of archers then i won a few games with 3v3 4v4s games. then i saw vi going on then i went to get that and i loved it got the hang of wining a few games. Then with my meny battles i bumped into The Aggonys and i joined there ranks and so the rest is history so to speak :)

I have also got RTW BI but my joy stays with mtw/vi then out of the Blue MTW2 wow is on its way and i will look forward to it :laugh4:

Hi, just signed up after getting back into MTW VI. Just browsing through the forums I see some technical issues of members getting back into the game and encountering the same problem with CTD. I think I found a simple solution with the antialsing settings on the VGC. Nothing is more frustrating then having a game work before and a couple hardware upgrades resulting in CTD.
Just wanted to put my two cents in to help out.

Well hi to you all in the .org!:embarassed: Just a few introductory notes: I'm from Greece and currently in my obligatory rural practice as a medical doctor on a really small Aegean island! As you can understand there's not much to do here. I've played all games of the Total War series for several years (since 2000) but not on MP. Every time I tried to face a human general I got obliterated!:sweatdrop: So I'm sticking to the good old AI. I've enjoyed the .org threads for quite some time now and I finally got to posting myself. That's all for now. Again, hi to you all!

PS: Six Total War games later and still I can't get over the naginata samurai. By the far the best unit on the series!

After a crazy day (or two) I'm back - again - in the forums. That sounded like a disco song! Anyway, I hope that the moderators forgive me if I go a bit off topic here. InsaneApache "ja su" comes from "ijia su" (health to you) and is used as hallo, goodbye and a cheerful greeting - when drinking wine for instance. It's a useful little phrase! It's good to know that you're trying to remember modern greek, not so many foreigners do so. As for calimari, when we want to make a joke on somebody's birthday instead of wishing "polihroNos ki eFtihismenos" (many-years and happy) we say "polihroMos ki eNtihismenos" (colourful and in-the-wall)! You've "discovered" the greek fun spirit all by yourself mate! Hi to all the newer-than-me members in here.

Hello, all, Guillaume here to say, erm, hello... to the esteemed members of the .org! I have been a big fan of the Total War series since first casting my incredulous eyes on the STW box in my local game store years ago.

I'm 34, married, and live in the States. I enjoy military history a good bit, and prefer historically accurate games over fanatsy, but have always been happy to play vanilla versions of the TW series. Haven't ventured online to chance a MP match as of yet, as I'm pretty attached to the "P" key!

Looking forward to MTW2; curious to see what changes to interface, etc. are forthcoming.

Great site and forum here, particularly the rather thorough froggbeastegg guides. Job well done!

Toodles,

Mick aka Guillaume l.B.

Good morning, Forumites,

Just dropped in to say hello. I see from te rules that you have to go through a bit of a trial period before you can post, so let this be my first.

I'm a MTW/RTW player with a love of history and an interest in intelligent *polite* debate,...even when I disagree with others or they with me. While I recognize the games are not "history" they are fun and the alternate history that is generated can be much fun to talk and write about. Interesting threads abound.

Cheers.

I think you have misunderstood the Entrance Hall system. It is not bore new members until they can post but to filter out trolls, flamers and other nuisances of the internet. It is a bit restrictive, but it also contributes to the good atmosphere on these forums. All that is required for promotion is a bit of patience and that you post regularly in a friendly and helpful manner.

Hello,

I'm a college student (a junior this fall) from Southeastern Michigan. I like to play Rome: Total War, but never tried the earlier TW games. I aim to buy Medieval 2 when it does come out, though.

Hello folks,

New to the boards, but a long time player of STW and MTW.

These great guides and posts have added much to my current MTW addiction. (and I'm holding all of you responsible...)

Looking forward to gleaning more nuggets and, hopefully, sharing some too.

I bet this place will get crazy after the MTW2 release. Looking forward to it!

Cheers.

Hi there!

Been here as a lurker/downloader of all kinds of stuff for a while now, played my way through all the total wars (except viking invasion) and rome total realism... now waiting for Europa Barbarorum to reach a stage beyond beta (I'll be honest, I enjoy playing so much more than finding bugs... :embarassed:)

Anyhow - today I accidentally stumbled across the pbem section of this forum (while searching for mods on MTW) - what a very cool idea to have! I'll have to check right away whether anybody is planning on starting a game anytime soon! :jumping:

Great to be here! Cheers!

Ah... figures - I'm not allowed into replying at the Throne Room section yet. Too bad. Well, if anybody reads this and happens to be starting off a game - I'd be happy to join!

Btw - any possiblity of not seeing those avatar pics twice (one large, one small) on the side of the page? Tried, but couldn't figure this one out.

Anyhow, gotta go and get some sleep now. Talk to you l8r! :flybye:

I regestered a looooooong time ago but I only lurked and didnt post. I have been looking for a decent total war site for the past year and thies one seems good. You can call me Shawn or my celtic alias Conall. Im a big fan of the celts and me being irish and scottish (maybe even pictish) i am very interested in them and i even wear a torc just like they did. If you are a fellow celt then i consider you a friend. I hope to make new friends here as i did on many other sites. If you ever wanna contact me my IM stuff is in my profile

There are two active PBM's right now, one for R:TW 1.5 (Seleucids) (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=60305) and one for BI 1.6 (WRE) (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=60188). The latter has plenty of players waiting for their turn, but there may be place in the "Heirs of Alexander". If you wish I or another moderator can post your message there.

Go to User CP (left of the top bar), edit options, and then scroll to thread display options. There several boxes there, but the ones you need are "show avatars" (second heighest) and "display URL avatars" (second lowest). I have ordinary avatars toggled off because this way I can see both URL and normal avatars, but if your connection is slow or you don't like the big avatars, switch the URL ones off.

Great! Thank you for the hint, mate! :2thumbsup:

Also, if you could sign me up at "Heirs of Alexander", that would be great! Also, could you give me a link for that pbem? I had already stumbled across the other two, but this one is new to me.

Thx again for the warm welcome! ~

Done (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?p=1082684#post1082684). "Heirs of Alexander" is the 1.5 Seleucid PBEM.

Shogun wont run at all. I reinstalled it, swept for StarForce, patched it and changed compatability mode to Windows 95 and 98 but nothing. When I double click on the desktop icon to start the game the 1st screen comes up of the logo so it looks like its going to load. Then it crashes back to desktop and gives me an error report to send to Microsoft every time. Im at a total loss. Here is the thread I followed to try and fix this issue

Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again... :wall:

Not exactly. There are plenty of forums and topic where you can post; and if you have something important to add to a topic that is temporarily restricted to you, the moderators are willing to move your post. The O.rg has its own membership system that restricts new members to the EH and a couple of other forums. This is indeed somewhat restrictive, but it keeps out trolls, flamers and other nuissances of the internet. Also, all that it takes to get promoted to full member is a few friendly and helpfull posts and a bit of patience. Therother explained the promotion requirements here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?p=1091677#post1091677). It is not true that promotion depends on post-count and blatant spamming will at best delay promotion. Ok, I understand that there has to be rules to everything in life. (wow, that was deep. And I didn't even mean for it to be.) As far as friendly and helpful, no problem. But the rest seems a little vague. I know what trolls are (big ugly guys in Lord or the Rings). Unless trolls are a code word for something or someone undesirable. The only time I've heard the term flamer is in reference to gays, and nuessances sound like those who only want to irritate those of us who are friendly and helpful.
