I have been trying to register to post for some time so that I can send my thanks to all those posters who take the time and trouble to help out, explain and generally light the way for players who are struggling with some aspect of the games.

I was a big fan of RTW and now play MTW. It's the strategic element of the TW series that attracts me, along with the fact that the campaign map is turn-based.

I'm right there with you on the turn-based side of things. There's a number of RTS games I like, but they end up being more tactics-driven. The worse ones are just challenges of how fast you can click. For real strategy you need turn-based (hasn't done chess any harm).

Sorry, yet the Backroom is not completely open to full members. Unfortunately, you need to do something extra first to be allowed access, but it's quite easy and soon enough afterwards you can see the Backroom. Simply enter your UserCP (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/usercp.php), click on Group Memberships (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/profile.php?do=editusergroups) and select to join the "Backroom". In a week or so, your in! Good luck, cheers!

Hi Caius Flaminus,
Instagibbed was a character called "A Winnar" who posted vulgar, abusive and unsuitable posts within the Entrance Hall two days ago - as Warmaster Horus has said - he did all of these peculiar activities to get banned and, in the end, he got what he wanted.

Instagibbed is a blanking tool which removes the members name and posts from standard view, and replaces them with the word "instagibbed" and bans the member so that they cannot return. It's only used on non-entities and spam-bots.

The space allowed within the UserCP does seem to tolerate up to thirty character, once one is a full member, I believe that your name is a shorter twenty-three characters so it should, hopefully, fit within the limitations with seven very handy characters to spair. May I ask which version of R:TW you have. You may need to patch up depending upon which version of R:TR you want to install. To check, on the main R:TW menu, simply click on options and, on the top of the screen there should be a number (1.x).

If, in the place of x there is a 0 or a 1 (the full number being 1.0 or 1.1), then you need to patch up to 1.2. That patch can be located here (http://games.softpedia.com/progDownload/Rome-Total-War-Patch-Download-5047.html). Now you can simply download R:TR 6.2 Gold Edition from here (http://totalrealism.net/download.html#6.0-Gold) and then install it.

Alternatively you can play R:TR Platinum Edition, which is the later upgrade of R:TR Gold Edition to the newer R:TW Patch. To do this, continuing from the previous instructions, simply patch up to 1.5 (http://games.softpedia.com/get/Patch/Rome-Total-War-15-Patch.shtml) and download Platinum Edition (1.8) from here (http://files.filefront.com/RTRPE_v18_Full_Installzip/;6730343;;/fileinfo.html). Double click on the installer and follow the instructions. Afterwards you need to delete the map.rwm file found in "C:/Program Files/Activision/Rome - Total War/data/world/maps/base". Then simply play away.

If in place of the x there is a 2 (1.2) then you can simply play R:TR Gold Edition straight away by downloading it here (http://totalrealism.net/download.html#6.0-Gold). If you wish to play Platinum Edtion then you first have to download patch 1.5 from here (http://games.softpedia.com/get/Patch/Rome-Total-War-15-Patch.shtml) and then download R:TR Platinum Edition (1.8) from here (http://files.filefront.com/RTRPE_v18_Full_Installzip/;6730343;;/fileinfo.html). Then delete the map.rwm file found in "C:/Program Files/Activision/Rome - Total War/data/world/maps/base" and play away!

If in place of the x there is a 3 (1.3) then you, unfortunately, cannot play R:TR Gold Edition without un-installing your copy of R:TW, re-installing it and following the instructions for version 1.0 again. If you have Barbarian Invasion then I'm sorry to say that even that is not possible unless you install R:TW without BI. Sorry about that. However, you can play R:TR Platinum Edition by downloading patch 1.5 here (http://games.softpedia.com/get/Patch/Rome-Total-War-15-Patch.shtml) and then downloading R:TR Platinum Edition (1.8) from here (http://files.filefront.com/RTRPE_v18_Full_Installzip/;6730343;;/fileinfo.html). Then delete the map.rwm file found in "C:/Program Files/Activision/Rome - Total War/data/world/maps/base" and play away!

If in the place of the x there is a 5 (1.5) and you do not have Gold Edition, then, without reinstalling R:TW, alone, without BI, you cannot play R:TR Gold Edition. Sorry. However you can still play R:TR Platinum Edition (1.8). First download the great modification from here (http://files.filefront.com/RTRPE_v18_Full_Installzip/;6730343;;/fileinfo.html) and install it. Then delete the map.rwm file found in "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\data\world\maps\base" and play away!

If you have Gold Edition, (1.5) then you cannot play R:TR Gold Edition at all. Sorry. However, you still can play R:TR Platinum Edition. First you have to download the modification from here (http://files.filefront.com/RTRPE_v18_Full_Installzip/;6730343;;/fileinfo.html) and install it following the instructions. However, do bear in mind that the default file-path is different to that of a standard version of R:TW so, when it asks you where you want to install it, change the default file path to "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War". Then press next and allow the installer to do it's wonderful magic! Once it is complete, delete the map.rwm file found in "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\data\world\maps\base" and then play away!

Hi again Iker,
There aren't any really large differences and one is not really any better than the other - R:TR PE is just a port of Gold to 1.5. However, R:TR Platinum does change some unit statistics and slows down the battle speads slightly further than a normal installation of R:TR Gold. R:TR PE also has, an indirectly, better Artifical Inteligence (AI) than R:TR Gold due to the patched base (R:TW 1.5 added improved AI to the game compared to 1.2). Hope this helps you, cheers!

Hello to you all, This my first post. I hope to share info and opinions on thr RTW,BI,MTW, games they are my favorite on pc. I would appreciate some help on the RTW patch 1.3. It used to work on my pc for RTW,but now I keep getting an error message,Does anyone know how to correct this and download the patch or am I the only one experiencing this problem.

Hey all,

I thought it was about time I started posting on this forum after spending so much time reading bits and pieces of it :).

I am a long time TW player and started with Shogun the day after it came out and have been hooked ever since. I have played every single TW game, (official) expansions and quite a few community mods for Rome and MTW2.

I am 27, work in IT for a large distribution company and when I'm not playing some form of TW i'm either reading history or drawing up plans for how to make the perfect TW :).

I'm not a modder btw, i'm far too lazy.

Currently playing Europa Barbarorum 0.8.1B for RTW which is by far and away the best TW game i've ever played.

Haven't explored the rest of this forum properly yet, so i'll leave you with 'greetings and salutations' (pretentious? Moi!), I hope everyone is well and I will contribute whenever possible to whichever threads take my fancy.

Do you guys have a trouble shooting/technical problems section in this forum?

My problem is I have just recently bought a copy of Medieval Total War (Gold Edition) which includes the Viking Invasion pack but it will not run for me.

I have a Pentium 3 with 933mhz processor, WinXP Home (SP 2), and GeForce 2 graphics card and I am well over the specs to run the game. But when I double click the start icon the screen goes black for a few moments and then a warning dialog appears telling me the I am running a debugger and the game won't go any further.

How do I know if a debugger is actually running and how do I deactivate it?

I am dying to try out my game and I'm getting very frustrated as I have tried everything. I hope someone on this forum can help and my apologies if I am posting in the wrong section of the forum.
