Welcome new members!

For those of you that find RTW too simple or easy, may I suggest a modification for Rome Total War. There are a wide variety of mods to choose from. I promise that once you download a modification, you will never return to "Vanilla" (original) Rome Total War. Modifications are free, very safe, easy to download or remove, and encouraged by the developers of RTW.

Rome Total Realism is a current favorite, and Europa Barbarorum is expected to be one of the most comprehensive total conversion modifications ever seen. A Beta version of EB for public testing is now available. www.Europabarbarorum.com

There are also many others to choose from, each uniquely able to enhance your RTW experience!

Welcome once again!

Hi hammerofoz, ATE and bedlam28.

hammerofoz, another Aussie on the forums I see!

ATE, you should really give STW and MTW a go. If you can get past the 32 pixel graphics(although STW has very nice environments) you will find them much more enjoyable and a lot harder.

bedlam28, yes the information and knowledge collated here is truly remarkable.

Hi. I'm just here because I'm having trouble Medieval - Total War, but I can't go to that thread, it seems, until I've posted on this one. It's kind of strange, but then again, so is such strict password requirements for a simple forum. I mean, it's not like this is a CIA website; why do I have to have 4 different character types in my password? And why do I have to post on the "Welcome" board before I can go to the Medieval - Total War board I need? But enough about that. Hi everybody, and I hope that since I've posted here, and my account's been activated, I'll finally be able to post on the Medieval - Total War board and get the help I need.

Hello kvn8907. I am sorry you seem to be experiencing such trouble posting. If you want to post in the Main Hall, I have even more bad news for you: Junior Members cannot post there yet. Fortunatly, you can post in the Entrance Hall, and there are sufficient knowlegdable members here to help you out. Also, if you want to contribute to the threads or ask a question in another forum, you can post a message in the entrance hall with a link to the thread or forum where you want it to be and the moderators or a helpfull member will move it. If you have a tech problems, you can post in the Apothecary (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=13), which is accessible for junior members.

This system is a bit restrictive, but it protects the Org from trolls, spammer and other nuissances of the internet. All that is required for promotion to full member is a bit of patience and a few friendly and helpfull posts in any of the forums that you do have access to. For more information on promotion, membership levels and the forum in general, read the Guild FAQ (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=45416).

Welcome to the Org !
kvn8907, give it a bit of time, and you'll see that the slight annoyance of not being able to post everywhere from the very start is well worth it. As Ludens said, you'll find very little trolling, bots, spammers, and such on these boards.

And trust me, the people are way more helpful and friendly than it may seem in the beginning, when you have the feeling that "you're not welcome on the boards, 'cause you can only post in a few places". It's not like that at all, and you're all very welcome !

And by the way, a few good posts and you'll be promoted to Member, and you'll have access to all forums :2thumbsup:

Again, welcome to the Org all!

Hello all!

Just introducing myself :juggle2:

there and back again...in other words, i play since STW and stopped playing my favorite game series after RTW came out. Everytime a new MOD pops up, i install RTW to get disappointed again. Dont get me wrong, the MODs are great - but RTW lacks the "old epic TW feeling" and even with BI 1.6 the AI is horrible bad :sweatdrop:

But now MTW2 is near and hope is back again !

Hello everyone!

After a long time of lurking I decided to sign up here. I like the friendly atmosphere at this forum. It is rare to see a board with so little trolling.

Other than that, there isn't much to tell. Labrats aren't very interesting creatures, anyway.

After reading the FAQ, because I was disappointed that I couldn't post anywherer I wanted to, I though I start off by saying Hello to everyone around here.
I'm a major lurker since the days on M:TW and the only reason I didn't play S:TW was because I couldn't beat the demo and figured that I would suck at the main game too.
I have recently joined during the recent M2TW mania to get some information over to the .org after posting different stuff at the .com and at twcenter.net.
Ituralde is also my username, so no coincidence there.

Well guess that's all!

Cheers!

Hello everyone, I registered some time ago but haven't got around to posting..yet. I like the poster above was a bit put off by the registration process in that I couldn't post advice on the Colloseum!

I'm 29, live in deepest Warwickshire and am another Brit. I recently lost my job (booo!) but got a nice settlement (yay!). So I have plenty of time to get back into Total War and specifically Alexander with the excellent shouty BRIAN "BLESS-SED".

Did I mention I can't post on Colloseum eh? ;) I'll buy the mods dinner and everything honest, esp. froggy hor her sterling work on the RTW guide.

Hoping for some higher privileges...

Love and kisses

Hi, I am a history geek from New Zealand. I have only just signed up though I have been cruising these forums for a while.

I have recently joined the modding crew for HesbolĂȘ es tĂȘn Hellada - Invasion of Hellas which is the first real mod I have ever worked on, I am probably going to be visiting the forums regularly from now on.

I also play trumpet in several bands and at the moment I am in the orchestra for the musical version of The Full Monty.

Greetings to senior forum members from your new member Agathon.

At present I own almost all the CA titles from STW to RTW. I have the BI expansion, but have so far not had the time to install it. I think that I would enjoy the Alexander expansion, but I have not yet purchased it.

I have played my first campaign in vanilla RTW over the transition months of winter and spring with the Scipii faction. Victory after what seemed like almost two centuries of struggling in the medium/medium mode enabled me to play with the Seleucid Empire (such as it is in vanilla). As the human Seleucid player, I found myself in the aesthetically unpleasant position of running what practically appeared to be the diminished Seleucid kingdom of 149 B.C. in the very volitile and perilous world of 170. My remedy presented itself in the form of the Extended Greek Mod combined with the very well designed Mundus Magnus map.

Ironically, the mod proved so satisfactory for my personal style of gameplay (and my great admiration for Hellenic civilization), that I have so far failed to return to the Seleucid faction since installing the XGM at the end of May. I found the challenges presented in the mod to the Greek Cities and Macedon too engaging to justify playing with the Seleucids. Most of my saved games directory is dedicated to saves of my greek cities xgm campaigns which is only now entering the 240's B.C.. My Macedoniam campaign was last saved at the winter of 254. In both campaigns,

I prefer the medium strategy level with battles set to hard. Experience has shown me that every victory gained at the "extra hard" level is accompanied by unusually high casualties. This tends in my opinion to make the even "easy" strategy level difficult to manage for smaller playable factions like the Greek Cities and Macedon.

Another reason for my choice of these factions is my interest in the "exotic" units presented for the greek factions in the XGM. Hypaspists (the actual greek answer to hastati), look great dressing the flanks of an 8-cohort phalanx, and the Macedonian cavalry is superb. Sadly, units like the Greek heavy peltasts, picked Cretan archers, Athenian marine archers, Thessalian cavalry and Macedonian companion cavalry have spoiled me as a player of Roman factions.

I hope that this brief note introduces me to you and also informs you of my experience and preferences in RTW. I am open to receiving your advice, recommendations and even your criticism. Thankyou.

Hey everyone, I've finally bothered to register again and stop lurking around. I had an account here about 3 years ago, but I stopped playing TW games for a while, and my old account has been forgotten. Not a whole lot to say about myself...I've just installed the beta Blue Lotus mod, so I'm about to start a campaign on that right after I post here. Look forward to seeing you all around.

Greetings

I've been playing Total War for about 6 years now in its various incarnations
and have been a reasonably active player of Medieval online over the past year or 2. Have been playing Rome recently and found it great with one exception. The battle map radar. You can't change its size on the screen.
I found this invaluable especially in a large multiplayer game. I don't know if anyone else feels the same way but I'd sure like to discuss the issue.

Cheers to all the great posters

Ok, let's introduce.

I'm proud to be part of the people that is the bravest of all the Gauls: I'm Belgian. 28 years old, have a degree in law (don't shoot me plz), like cycling, swimming, reading and love my girlfriend (soon to be my wife) and Total War (if I'm ever to divorce, Activision, Sega and Creative Assembly will be held responsable :2thumbsup: ).

Ever since I got my hands on Medieval Total War, I'm a big fan of the Total War series.

Not really a big fan. Actually I'm an addict. And since I got Barbarian Invasion I think I'm going to die from an overdose :help:

Maybe I won't post alot in the forums because I don't have that much time, but I felt obliged to register so I could just say thank you for this magnificent site and those magnifcent stories I loved to read.

Hello, I'm Wodanaz *points to name* obviously...

I'm new to the entire Total War series, but I picked up a copy of Rome: Total War gold edition about six months ago and absolutly love it. I have recently switched over to the Europa Barbarorum mod and can't get enough of it. Looking forward to trying out some other mods as well if someone can recomend several good ones.

Favorite factions: Germania (R:TW Vanilla) and Sweboz (EB) with the other "barbarian" tribes coming in close behind in both games. Something about the more "civilized" armies just bothers me I guess.

I really don't know what else to say here, so I'm going to be quiet now.

Patience, young grasshopper. Promotion will generally take two weeks and two or three dozen posts (both, not either, so spamming won't help you). Yes, it is rather restrictive, but it helps to keep this place free from flamers and trolls. I am not quite sure what you are asking. Do you want to know how to take screenshots? In M:TW you can simply press F2 and you will find them in the TGA folder of the M:TW map. For R:TW, the procedure is slightly more complex: how to take screenshots. (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=66345)

Hello everyone.
I have been in the Guild for about a week now. It looks to be a very nice forum for the Total War world!

I live in Denver, Colorado, and I make maps for a living.

I have played MTW since early 2003, and enjoyed it very much... but i never played any of the other games. I got Eras 2 weeks ago, and appreciate that that all the games, expansions, and extras are only on 6 discs. nice!

I am also looking forward to playing RTW.

Medieval 2 coming out in November, looks to be very cool... especially with all the changes to the campaign game (the one part of MTW that i always thought could use some improvement).

I have several questions in one: :inquisitive:
I have RTW with Barbarian Invasion in Eras pack. Does it need any patch updating? and what is Rome Total Realism? I have heard about this and I guess it upgrades RTW? What patches are needed so that the other factions can be played (from the start) besides just the 3 roman families in RTW?

Thanks!

Hello,

I have been a member of this Guild for a year or so, but have not posted. I bought the MTW/VI pack a while ago, but have not found a lot of time to play.
~:mecry:

Now I have a little more time and hope to get better at it before MTW2 comes out! I played STW a bit, but had to switch computers and then couldn't find my game to reload it! :wall:

Anyway, I am originally from Canada, but live in Illinois, USA currently.

Many thanks to all who have contributed so richly to the guides, forums, etc. Some of the advice is *way* over my head right now, :embarassed: but I hope to get there!

Take care.

Apart from Ran no Jidai? I don't think so. There is a couple of Eastern mods (Blue Lotus and Zhanguo), but Ran no Jidai is the only S:TW conversion.

Anyway, nice to meet all of you, and I'm looking forward to having a great time with you guys!!:2thumbsup:

Welcome to the Org, Seedexodus. What version of M:TW do you have? The 1.1 patch is for the M:TW game without the expansion. If you have installed the Viking Invasion expansion, you'll need to 2.01 patch. The M:TW Gold edition requires yet another patch. If you bought the TW Era pack, you won't need any patches. All the patches can be found on the support - medieval page of www.totalwar.com.

I have being told that to be promoted to member it helps to post in this forum. So I am going to post something about myself (like it says)!

Anyway my real name is Matthew (nickname Matthius Crowtherius I went for Julius because it sounds better) and my birthday is on the 28th of March and I live in Linconshire (if you look on Wikipedia what my location actually says does make sence). I have three very nice freinds who are all completley mad (like me really). They are called Tom, Victor and Kathryn and are all very nice. I always eat dinner with at least one of them in my "office" where I work (it's not really mine I share it with somebody else yet they are never there during dinner break so it's all mine). My freinds are also known as Mr Dolling, Mr Kristiensen and Miss Elliot, sorry, but we are all Chemistry\Biology teachers! My hobbies include playing (historical) computer games like MTW or RTW (with the EB mod of course). I also like some slighly less historical computer games like AoE III or The Settlers HoK, IV, III and II. Actually I don't really care what I play as long as it is fun (although I think that historical accuracy is very important) and has a nice story behind it. I also love reading about history (particaully classical history and Medeival History) because learning about the past could help one in the futre.

Can I be promoted now please please please please please...!

Having gotten that out of the way... I've been a fan of the Total War series ever since I got my first copy of Medieval. Since then I've also picked up the Viking Invasion expansion, as well as RTW and BI (the last two of which I just recently installed). Anyway, being a relative newbie to RTW, I thought it best to browse the web for some strats (as well as the occasional AAR / fanfic--I really enjoy reading those) and came across this site, which I must say is most impressive :)

I would like to apologize for asking this question on this forum topic( this is the only thread that i can post in), but is there a unit guide or a faction guide for Medieval TW XL expansion?
Thanks a bunch!

Unfortunately there isn't a guide for the XL Mod, at least not that I'm aware of. It maybe wouldn't be a bad idea to write one up, however.

Hello everyone, just noticed this section.

I'm Mortlock and I only just purchased RTW and it's my first experience of any of the TW series. Really enjoying it so far and I now can't wait for MTW2!

I'm an Australian and an elementary school teacher and I currently work in Japan.

Hello all. On the advice of a co-worker, I've decided to join in the fun and games about the Total War series because I love it to bits, especially MTW. I've always been more of strategy player rather than a twitch-gamer. Always had a fondness for Diplomacy, Axis & Allies etc.

I love playing out the biggest battles I can make in RTW on my Nvidia 7950GX2 equipped system. It's outrageously good looking and fun to see who wins (though sadly Rome is not as good as MTW for realism IMHO).

I love Total war games.
I started playing MTW a few years back, it was just so addictive.
I bought Rome on the release date and was amazed by the visuals and dissapointed by the AI.
Recently I bought the Total war: era. I dont have shogun and any of the expansion packs, so I guess it's a good buy for me.
I played a bit of shogun the other day, it's just as good as MTW, it made me realize how stupid the AI really is in RTW. In shogun, in the first 10 min of playing, my spy was assassinated, in RTW I don't remember any of my agents ever get assassinated. I suppose for RTW the AI on the strategy map is harder to implement since it's not divided into discrete provinces like in MTW or Shogun, I hope they make it better in MTW2.

The procedure you describe ought to work, though I am not sure of the requirements of SPQR mod. If it doesn't, tell us what goes wrong and maybe we can help.

Welcome to the org, brighterhell, and plenty of luck in your campaign! ;) (with or without VI?)
Without. Just the straight game, no patches or anything like that. A friend of mine gave it to me when he stopped using his computer along with a bunch of other games - now I'm addicted! It's taken a while to figure stuff out like shipping routes, government, and tactics. One question - I'm playing as the Byzantines and I now have the biggest navy and control the Mediterranean. The only problem is I can't sink ships in the Black Sea or the Sea of Marmara. Even with 5 ships attacking a single enemy ship nothing ever happens...so Constantinople is continually blockaded by sea. Am I missing something?

Hello all.

Warm greetings first of all, and may I start out by wishing you all many great gaming experiences in the future.

My name is Paul, and my screen name is a combination of my first and last, just to get that out of the way.

I'm a seventeen year old gamer who originally started out with Age of Empires (AoK, AoC, and lastly AoE 3). Just to give you an idea of how serious I am about my gaming, I was a 2.1k player in AoE 3, which puts me in the top twenty in america.

Now to humble myself a bit :P

I've only been playing Medieval: Total War for a few months in between work and college, so I'm quite the inexperienced player. I have a decent grasp of strategy (or so I thought), but Medieval: Total War (along with VI) is opening unknown doors for me, specifically the dozens of different strategic and tactical factors in just one battle. I've nearly dedicated most of the guides on this forum to memory, and after developing a stronger grasp of the game, I look forward to contributing in any way possible.

My hobbies include discussing politics, religion, and different aspects of strategy games (along with playing said strategy games). I'm a fledgling chess player, and open to discussion of any of the above.

I look forward to chatting with many of you, and wish all of you a good night.

Hello eric draven. Welcome to the Org ~ .

The procedure you describe ought to work, though I am not sure of the requirements of SPQR mod. If it doesn't, tell us what goes wrong and maybe we can help.

....well....first step...:-i install RTW path 1.3
second :-i install RTW path 1.5
third :-set FIRST TIME PLAYING -FALSE (on preferences
and save it)
4th :-installing S.P.Q.R. mod 6.1

.....and when i start the game all i can get is that picture from the beggining...with the S.P.Q.R creator...and i am out...with nothing else to write on the sceen...like some errors or anything like that....i really want to play SPQR mod....what i am doing wrong?....please... some advice...
....thank you

Try not to edit the preferences and try again (tho I doubt it'll work)

ask here this is the SPQR forum, they'll know ... I think
