Unit Description
Byzantine Infantry are the main sword unit available to the Byzantines. Individually, they are not as good as their Catholic counterparts in the Early period, Feudal Men-at-Arms, they lack the Elite status (although they are Disciplined) and their attack and morale aren't as good. What they lack in prowess they make up for in numbers, as Byzantine Infantry units are larger than normal sword units (100 men instead of 60 on default sizes, the same size as spear units). This unit size allows them to wrap around enemy sword and spear units easily, and enables them to hold up better under cavalry charges than other sword units. Their large shield helps protect them from both missiles and in melee.
Byzantine Infantry do not age well, they become outdated as the periods progress, but the Byzantines don't really have many options in their army roster.
