Unit Description

Sherwood Foresters will only appear in rebel uprisings in Mercia. They have only 12 men in the unit, but can be deadly when used properly. Sherwood Foresters have the ability to hide anywhere on the battlefield, not just in trees. This makes them perfect for setting up ambushes and trapping enemy units.

While Sherwood Foresters are armed with longbows, melee is where they will thrive, especially if they are have a few levels of valour. They can be used to attack the flank or rear of an enemy unit when coming out of hiding, their excellent combat stats and speed allow them to drive home the ambush advantage. They should avoid getting into the middle of a battle though, their small numbers make them vulnerable in head on fights. Sherwood Foresters can also use their longbows against heavily armoured units like knights, and this can be used to draw cavalry units to their doom in the trees.

When set to ambush, make sure that Skirmish and Fire At Will are both turned off to keep them hidden.

The Longbow has a longer range than the standard bow, and reduces the effectiveness of the target's armour by half. Volleys from crossbows and arbalests are more lethal, but the longbows can fire at almost 4 times their rate. This allows them to shower enemy formations with many shots in a short period of time. Archer effectiveness will suffer in rainy weather.
