Unit Description
Sipahi of the Porte are available to the Turks in the Late period. Their speed can be used to harass infantry and cavalry alike, and their Elite and Disciplined status coupled with excellent morale make them them much more reliable than the standard mounted archer units. Sipahi of the Porte are more heavily armoured than other mounted missile units, this will protect them from enemy counter-fire during harrassment. They also carry the standard cavalry shield which protects them in melee and from missile weapons.
While their charge is not great, Sipahi of the Porte are good in melee and their armour will give them longevity in combat. This gives them great flexibilty, they can fire volleys into enemy units before engaging them, and can be used as heavy cavalry once their arrows are expended. However, they are similar to many other bodyguard units in that they only have 20 men, so care must be taken to avoid being overwhelmed, especially if a royal family member is in the unit.
Sipahi of the Porte serve as the royal bodyguard units for the Turks. The faction leader and heirs will appear on the campaign map leading Sipahi of the Porte units in the Late period.
Sipahi of the Porte recruited in Tripoli gain a +1 bonus to valour.
In siege battles, Sipahi of the Porte may be dismounted for Janissary Infantry.

The bow Sipahi of the Porte use does not have any armour piercing bonus, so firing on heavily armoured units will have minimal effect. They also fire on an arc, which means the shot takes a while to reach the target and can miss fast moving units altogether. Missile cavalry should never get involved in duels with infantry missiles. Mounted archers are less accurate, have fewer arrows per volley, and present a bigger target so they will take more casualties. Overall archer effectiveness will suffer in rainy weather.
