Unit Description
Spanish Jinetes are available to the Catholic and Orthodox factions (except for the Byzantines) from most Iberian peninsula provinces. While they are very fast, the short range and limited number of their javelins are not conducive to standard missile cavalry tactics. Spanish Jinetes are best used in tandem with infantry pinning units (preferably spearmen) that can engage enemy heavies while the Jinetes move around to the back to deliver their shots. Once their javelins are expended, Spanish Jinetes can be used like fast light cavalry, chasing down routing units and archers and performing attacks on the flanks and rear of engaged enemy units. They also carry the standard cavalry shield which protects them in melee and from missile weapons.
In siege battles, Spanish Jinetes may be dismounted for Feudal Sergeants.

Because Spanish Jinetes use short ranged javelins, skirmish should be turned off, or else they will not throw any javelins. They are best when run around to the flank or rear of a pinned enemy unit, giving them a direct line of fire and allowing them to charge once they have exhausted their javelins. A few volleys of armour piercing javelins into a heavily armoured cavalry unit can be devastating.
