Unit Description
Camels, Camels, Camels. Bedouin Camel Warriors serve one purpose: to attack and slaughter horse cavalry in melee. Camels smell, and horses do not like to be near them, so in melee horses become difficult for their riders to control. This gives the camel riders + 2 to attack horsemen, and horsemen suffer a -4 attack penalty when fighting back. Camels also get a +1 attack bonus when fighting in desert climates, and fatigue slowly in deserts. This gives them another advantage when fighting heavily armoured knights who should be somewhere between medium and well-done by the time combat ensues. Camels should remain in the desert, in lush or temperate climates they suffer a -1 attack penalty instead.
Due to their cheap cost and low build requirements, Bedouin Camel Warriors are easily spammable. This is useful when defending Muslim lands from the inevitable Crusades that occur during the campaign.
Without the anti-horse bonuses, Bedouin Camel Warriors are just not very effective. The game treats them as cavalry (with the same bonuses and penalties), but their charge and attack stats aren't good enough to punch through decent infantry. Their slow speed makes them difficult to withdraw from melee, and spear units will be very difficult to overcome.
Bedouin Camel Warriors can be dismounted at any time for Muslim Peasants, but it's not advisable except in a certain few, very specific situations.
