Unit Description
Pavise Arbalesters are just like Arbalesters except that they carry a Pavise, a large shield which protects them while they reload their weapons. Having to lug the Pavise around makes them slower, but the extra protection means they are well suited to missile duels with opposing foot or horse archers.
Given a choice between Pavise Arbalesters and Pavise Crossbowmen, Pavise Arbalesters should always be taken. They are more accurate, pierce armour better, do more damage, and have longer range.

Arbalests are very effective against armoured units, and can cause a great amount of damage to heavy infantry and cavalry. Unlike Crossbows, Arbalests use steel strings and are not affected by rainy weather.
